Expect that at some point, aesthetics won over functionality. If you want to find a bed to compliment your quirky personality, then one of these coolest bed designs, might be just what you are looking for.

The Quantum Sleeper Bed

The Quantum Bed is the perfect solution for those who want to be safe and securely tucked in at night. The bed claims to protect the user even from terrorist bio-chemical attack, protection from kidnappers or stalkers, and steps up further it's features by being bulletproof. In a way, it transforms as your own self-contained 'panic room' or saferoom, whatever you'd like to call it.

Don't worry about getting bored or starving while you wait for the 911 emergency response team since this one-of-a-kind sleeper is also built-in with the latest appliances, entertainment and communication devices like a refrigerator, CD/DVD or PC connection, a ref and microwave, a CB, cellphone or radio add-ons. I wonder if they managed to sneak in a toilet somewhere in there though. These 'Panic room' and bed rolled into one does not come cheap at $100-150 grand each.

Magnetic Floating Bed

This floating bed is not only a technological marvel owing to its weird design but is also the most expensive in the world at $1.6 million. Designed by world-famous bed designer, the Floating bed is aimed to carry 900 kl of weight and had to be attached by cables to prevent it from floating away.

Makes one wonder how can you sleep peacefully when falling off the bed takes a new meaning with this bed design, literally means like falling off the sky.

Fetal Bed

Can anyone please explain what is going on in this bed? Just looking at this Fetal bed makes one cringe at the mere thought of spending even a night in one. Isn't sleeping supposed to be a restful bliss?

This bed could possible cause stiff neck and throw in some cramps for the first time sleeper. It appears to be more like a punishment. Indeed, sleeping in this bed requires great talent of being able to keep still, which I'm sure 95% of us don't have.

Mouse trap Bed

Just sprinkle some bits of cheese, er, a bouquet of roses or box of expensive chocolates and the mouse, er, hunt will fall into the bait. This bed would be a sure delight for mousehunters.

Good thing the Mouse trap bed is not available in the stores as this is merely concept design in an exhibit. For the commitment-phobics this is a sure way to lure them in or scare them scurrying to the nearest exit.

The Vertical Bed

Imagine sleeping on your toes, literally. The designer of the Upright Bed must be paying tribute to the British Guards when he designed this weirdly-designed bed. With this Vertical bed in your bedroom, you won't be caught 'lying' in bed, but instead, 'standing' in bed to get much-needed sleep.

For a rare few, this coffin bed might just be the answer to your thirst for 'pretend to be a vampire' experience.

It will surely revolutionize the way one sleeps but they don't come cheap either, as you can have one only if you are willing to spend $3,800, without the mattress.

If you sleep in one of these, don't ask how you ended up on the floor or on the wrong side of the Cloud Bed in in the morning.

Hi Beverly (a.k.a. LoveOurPlanet). I agree. Except for the few peoplewho fancy the odd or weird, most of these beds are better off in a museum. Most of them are also way expensive for the average consumer, though I find it really amusing how the designers think up of these creations in the first place. Thanks!

A fun look at beds! I think several of them are art installations for evoking a response rather than serious consumer goods for enhancing sleep, though. Not really great feng shui for resting, IMO. A few did look comfy, like the Cloud Bed, but I didn't see any one that I would trade for mine.
