With the rise in copper prices, stainless steel pipes have become more affordable and a viable option for many home owners.  Instead of replacing your home's galvanized pipe by doing a copper repipe of your home, consider stainless steel pipe. To use stainless steel pipe you will want to fit them with stainless steel pipe fittings.

Depending on your use, stainless steel pipe fittings come in threaded or barbed and in many different configurations like 90 degree elbow, Tees male and female, you can get sanitary fittings for food applications and shutoff valves and all the fittings come in sizes from 1/4 inch to 3 inches. Their strength and resistance to corrosion is what draws people to stainless steel. It is a product you will likely never have to replace and is more durable than copper.

You can even use stainless steel fittings with non-stainless products like vinyl tubing or copper pipes. For tubing you will need to used barbed fittings but for copper you can use the same stainless steel fittings that you would if the pipes were steel instead of copper.

Buying stainless fittings is easy. You can find them at most large hardware stores and a smaller selection of fittings at smaller hardware stores and you can even find them online if you know exactly which ones you are looking for.
