Five Great Gifts for the Gardening Dad

For the man who love to play in the dirt

A gift for your father is a great way to thank him for all he has done for you. All the times he ran behind you while you tried riding a two-wheeler for the first time. All the times he let you brush his hair and put bows in.... and rip them out less than tenderly. All those terrifying moments when you were learning to drive and really had no clue. After all those things you put him through, all those gray hairs you might have had something to do with, getting dad a good gift is the least you can do! Here you will read about my 5 favorite gifts for the gardening dad!

Seed Starter kits

A great gift to get the gardening dad is a seed starter kit. This will allow him to get ready for the growing season by starting his seedlings before the weather is warm enough to plant outside. Most kits are based off of the same idea as a greenhouse and come with a plastic base and a fitted lid. The one shown here also come with a heating pad which will raise the soil temperature and give those seeds a jump start on germination.

In addition to the basic unit I suggest you also purchase grow lights. Having grow lights will increase the amount of success your father will have with starting his seeds inside. Grow lights provide the seedlings with a full spectrum of lights which will literally cause them to burst into life!

A Dump cart will make gardening easier!

A dump cart is a handy tool that any gardner dad would be glad to have. This cart is so much better than the traditional wheel barrow and can do everything the wheel barrow can. Four wheels means no more tipping over a full load during a turn, making dad a happy camper. Getting a cart that is able to dump it's load, rather than just a cart for hauling, enables the user to use this one tool to accomplish many, many tasks.

A good set of garden tools

Every gardener needs a quality set of garden tools, even if they say what they have is fine. They make so many kinds and versions of tools it's easy to find one that will be a perfect fit for your dad.

A Bucket Buddy

This is the gift that my dad uses most frequently. It's a canvas sack that fits over a 5-gallon bucket that creates an easy to lug around tool box. It has lots of pockets of different sizes so dad can stay organized and get his gardening done without hunting for his things.

To make the Bucket Buddy even more versatile you can now purchase a plastic seat that fits on your bucket. Making the old 5-gallon bucket a portable tool box AND a portable seat. Once he has this gift he'll wonder why he went so long without it!

Home-turned Compost

This is a great device that will save time and money. No more trips to the home improvement store to get fertilizer or manure to spread on the gardens! Simply load your yard clippings and leaves and twigs into the compost bin. This one is a nice size and comes with a stand that dad can use to stabilize it while he rotates the bin to create your homemade compost.

Just remember that no matter what gift you give your dad to tell him how much it means to you that he's there. Even if it's just a simple, "Thanks for catching my bike before it hit the ground." or "Thanks for walking me down the aisle". Thank him for being the super dad that he is and helping you become the person you are today.
