The ALDI Workzone Multitool
A tool for many uses.
The Workzone cordless multitool sold by ALDI is quite a strange device. For those that have not seen a multitool before, they look like an angle grinder but without any side handle or guards.
Basically, they are a reciprocating tool (the mounting for the tooling does not rotate all the way round, but swings from side to side a bit like a windscreen wiper arm on a car, but much faster). The idea being that you only need to make cutting attachments that encompass half the radius of the disc. This has the added effect of stopping the tool from spinning out of your hand should a blade get stuck.
When I first spotted this in the middle isle I did think whether or not I needed one in me toolbox. Having found an open box, I picked-up the tool and it felt well-balanced and not at all heavy, even with the battery attached. The handle is just the right diametre to fit my hand comfortably unlike it's corded stablemate, witch has a very uncomfortable feel being that it is made of a hard plastic and is just to big to use single-handed. The body of the cordless tool is much more maliable and can be easily used single-handed.
I finally got around to using for the first time a couple of months after the initial purchase. I was undertaking some DIY and needed to sand-down a small section of wall. My first intent was to fetch my sander from the cupboard, but then remembered the multi-tool was siiting in the corner of the hallway, so out it came. The small triangular sanding foot is designed to hold a piece of sandpaper using a self-gripping system. This worked superbly well with the sandpaper remaining in position throughout the sanding operation. The design of the sanding foot has 3 holes in to allow the dust to clear mre efficiently than the regular sander I own. This results in the dust falling into a neat pile rather than being thrown all over the room in a big cloud.
The other tools included are a plunge-saw for wood, a scrapper, a tile remover and a plunge-saw for concrete.
To sum-up, the pros are -
- Large range of attachments
- Can use attachments from other makes
- Easy to use single-handed
- Use limited by battery life
- Not easy to obtain new batteries
- Only comes in a cardboard box so no carry-case included.
Spare batteries can be found on www.servotool.eu The part # is

Don't get done by the PPC's. All you need to know about these scammers. Got a PCN ?, here is why you shouldn't pay and why they cannot do a thing about it.
