The Omega Juicer!

After almost 24 years of regular use my juicer gave up its ghost three days ago. Although it was not the biggest and strongest machine around it did the job like a trouper and it made the worlds best juices ever. The guy at the fix-it shop (who used to be a friend, but as of now is off my Christmas card list) told me there really was nothing he could do for my old antique. So with a heavy heart I accepted that I need to give up on my long time friend.

Chanting to myself '... a shopping I must go, a shopping I must go,... high-ho what fun I will have, a shopping I must go...'

As I just can't live without a juicer (I start and end my day with a glass of fresh healthy juice). My 'need- to-buy-when-next-in-the-city' shopping list was quite extensive so I decided yesterday on the spur of the moment not to wait until next week but to head up to Toronto, a three hour drive away.

Lucky for me I did not wait till next week because the health food store that I buy most of my 'good for me' supplies from had a sale on till the weekend. You guessed it, a fabulous sale on juicers, 25% off regular price is nothing to sneeze at, I say.

There were two of them that caught my eye, well actually a heck of a lot more of them did, but I was not willing to spend the kind of money that those, do-just-about-everything-juicers cost...holly smokes I spent less money on my first car (although if the store clerks were to tell me that those new machine can do windows... I might have been persuaded... but I'm getting off subject again)

The two machine that were kind of in my price range were the Omega Model 8005 and the New Green Star GS 3000. I bet these would be available on EBay or Amazon at a better price but if I feature in the cost of the money exchange, delivery charges and possibly border duty, the price would probably be almost the same. Besides I didn't want to wait a couple of weeks, I wanted a machine now (when I make up my mind about getting something I'm not very patient)

The Omega Model 8005 Nutrition Center is a new single gear, masticating style juice extractor. This unit is an appliance with some multiple features built into it.
It is a single gear machine that turns at a low 80 RPMs and this low speed helps the Omega 8005 extract all the juice and foams up less than a double gear style juicer.

The machines features are:

  • Single Gear Masticating Extraction which produces less foam than the double geared machines
  • The very quiet powerful 1/3 HP motor set for low Rotation Speed of 80 RPMs can chew through the plant fibers to extract from them every bit of juice, vitamins, enzymes, and mineral content
  • Continuous Juicing with Automatic Pulp Ejection
  • High Juice Yield with very dry pulp
  • No heat build up
  • A heavy duty construction using the highest quality materials
  • It is engineered for quiet operation and long life
  • It has a built in "reverse" which helps to prevent clogging
  • Easy to assemble, operate and clean
  • No separate attachments needed.
  • It has a full 10 year guarantee
  • It weighs 18 Pounds

This machine sounded quite serious when it was running. The remaining pulp was quite dry. It seemed actually dryer than the Green star.

The Green Star Juicer GS1000 & GS3000

  • Has twin gear technology that extracts considerably more minerals from the produce that is juiced
  • A 1/4 hp motor and speed reduction gear providing more torque on the auger that will increase the pressing power
  • Slow 110 rpm to minimize heat build-up during the juicing processing retaining the life of the enzymes
  • A "pulse" reverse gear to dislodge blocked residue promoting better operating from the juicer
  • Weighs only 24 pounds (11 kilograms) making it easier to handle, move and clean
  • Heavy Duty Twin Gear Technology Features
  • It has a 15 year warranty

This machine does look impressive, yet when the store clerk demonstrated it the motor sounded more like a sewing machine. (higher RPS I think). The pulse reverse it a nice feature which the other machine does not have.

Like a magpie or crow the shiny caught my eye. I'm happy to say that this little beauty is now sitting on my counter top and I have this feeling that we are going to become the best of friends.

The Chrome finish and the fact that this model had a 25% off sale sticker on it were the deciding factors.

I will add extra here as I learn more about this style of juicer.

raisingme, good idea to start juicing again. As I'm reading comments etc here on hubpages I'm sipping my morning cup-a-juice. First time for this carrot, mango, guava, blueberry and pineapple blend... not too bad at all... it still has that need something else flavor though...

I haven't unpacked our juicer since our move - you have inspired me to get it out of the box and start juicing again!

Excellent hub. I had a juicer years ago and gave it to my sister when she became ill. I think I'll treat myself to another one now, there are so many health benefits to juicing!

Phone directory...what on earth could I do with that to make it interesting? Now that's a challenge and a half.

Thanks again for those kind words, but with this swollen head I may never wear a hat again.

Zsuzsy, both my wife and I are of the opinion that if you were to re-write the telephone directory, you will somehow find a way to make intersting :-))

How is it possible? How can you make an article about a juicer, a JUICER for God's sake, SO INTERSTING???

Is it then strange that I am so envious of your talent?

In the best possible way of course :-))

This thing seems to have it all. Used to juice a while back, and this thing makes my old juicer look like an antique.

Hmm. I do miss the juicing though. It just got to be a lot of work cleaning everything up every day.

Hiya G, so glad you stopped in. This juicer is just awesome, the carrots leftovers are like sawdust. The citrus pulp is almost bone dry, just amazing how little waste. And the clean-up takes a couple minutes the screen that the juice gets squeezed through needs a little brushing the rest (3 pieces)just need to be rinsed.

I'm totally awed with this baby.

I will post my lemonade recipe during the week (just for you)

hope you and the family are well

hey there Z! Thanks for the the great information....I paid around $200.00 for my juicer a few years ago, but the clean up on it is annoying! We have lots of citrus trees (oranges, grapefruit and lemons) and the fruit is wasting because of my messy juicer! ha I will look into the Omega model. Did you do a hub on juices yet? I can never get the homemade lemonade right! ha

Best, G

Hope your new juicer lasts as long as the first one. Maybe you could turn the old one into a planter or something.

askjanbrass, I use the juicer everyday, I find this unit really the easiest to clean. It saves time and because everything is squished out dry it also saves money in the long run.

Wow, I have always wanted a juicer but have never actually gone out and bought one. Your Hub has just reminded me of how cool a juicer would be...how often do you use yours and do you think it was absolutely worth it for the price?

Hiya Paradise, how are you? Always glad when you stop by.

If you're wanting to buy a juicer make sure you do some homework first. Ask yourself some of these questions. How much are you going to juice? How often? What are you wanting to juice? How easy is it to clean it? etc. Nothing worse than wanting to use something that takes an hour to clean up after.

Interesting product review. I've wondered about getting a juicer.

Hi Kaie I started out with a Centrifugal juicers which I bought at Sears Christmas 1986. At the start we used it a lot then it got put into the cupboard and only came out on special occasions until mainly because it was time consuming to clean. Now since I'm working from home and for health reasons it has become an everyday used appliance that do not want to live without. That first juicer cost a 100 dollars when I first bought it all I could afford at the time. I don't think that I saved any money though because I had to use 40 % more fruit and veggies to get the same amount of juice that this new baby gives out. She did cost almost 4 times the amount but it won't take long to recoup the money with the savings on the fruit and veggies and on time as its really easy to clean.

So don't worry about your machine use it and enjoy it and when the time comes replace it with a better one.

thanks for reading.

Susan, thank you for stopping by. Well I can say that this new little beauty sure has what it takes. The carrot pulp left over feels almost like dry sawdust. The clean up is just so easy. 4-5 parts need to be held under the water tap. The juicing screen needs a bit of brushing to loosen up the pulp before it too gets held under the tap. Within 5 minutes I'm done and cleaned up. I love it.

This machine is way easier to clean than my old one ever was (sorry to be disloyal to you Ethel in juicer heaven)

I'd like to hear more about your review of this product once you have used - then cleaned it a few times. There are times when appliances look easy to use then when you get them home and are the one cleaning it your view changes. I'm in the market for a new juicer myself since my old Jack LaLane is a pain to clean because the filter gets stuck every time, and the pulp I throw away is wet and a huge amount. So I hope you will keep posting to this hub so I can learn more about this product. Thanks a lot.
