What Grind and Brew Machine Suits You?

Don't just buy the cheapest grind and brew coffee maker or a stand alone coffee grinder, this is not always the best option.

You need to buy something suited to your needs. Coffee lovers do not all love the same brew, taste or aroma.

This is what makes coffee so great, there is so much choice and the subjective nature of it gets us coffee folk talking about it or passing on new brands or beans.

Throughout this page I have written a few tips on buying the right grind and brew coffee maker for you.

Power of Grind and Brew Coffee Makers

The less power given out by the coffee grinder may cause the grinder burn out a lot quicker or jam.

The ranges of power provided by grinders will vary between 150 to 300 watts.

The more wattage output of the grinder will produce better coffee.

Burr or Blade? What Suits Your Needs?

Burr or Blade Coffee Grinder?

There are two types of grinder to consider when choosing a grind and brew coffee maker. I have described these below.

BURR GRINDER

A burr grinder crushes the whole coffee bean by way of moving wheels, there are no blades. They do not chop the bean. Burr grinders can be defined into two types.

Conical - The best coffee grinders have these. They run at low speeds crushing the whole coffee bean and releasing the aroma and taste slowly. Oily beans are very good in these machines as they tend not to clog up.

Wheel - These type of burr coffee grinders run at high speeds which makes grinding coffee a bit noisy. These also tend to make things a little more messy and may clog?

BLADE GRINDER

Blade coffee grinders simply chop up the coffee bean. There are no wheels like the burr grinders and the coarseness level id defined by how long you grind for.

This sometimes means the bean is not evenly chopped and the heat from the blades can actually burn the coffee producing a nasty taste.

Grind and Brew Your Coffee Beans for Optimal Taste

Many coffee grinders have settings to change the coarseness of the whole bean.

You have to decide what makes the best coffee for you. Experiment with your grinder settings to work out how to get the optimal coarseness you require for your perfect brew.

Grinding your coffee beans will ultimately bring the coffee taste and strength you require.

As with most coffee grinders, for optimal performance the size the bean has been ground to will make all the difference.

What Capacity Do You Need?
What Capacity Do You Need? | Source

How Much Bean Do You Wish to Grind?

This is a personal choice depending on how much coffee you make and how regular you have it at home.

If you prefer one cup in the morning freshly brewed then the size of the bean holder doesn't matter.

If you wish to grind coffee that will last you a whole week then the capacity will matter. It all depends on how much grinding you wish to do.

If you grind once a day then small capacity may be better.

If you wish the grind large amounts of coffee bean at one time then a large capacity will be more suited.

Extremely sturdy but heavier than most grind and brews. It looks great in any kitchen, but this may be due to it's size. This conical burr grinder coffee machine comes with 2 portafilter cradles and a grind container. A great and well respected coffee maker.

A great feature of this coffee maker is how quite it is. This won't wake you up while it's preparing your morning coffee. Just the great aroma filling your home. You could say that the noise the Breville does make is weirdly comforting?

Cuisinart (DGB-700BC) 12 Cup Grind & Brew Coffeemaker (Brushed Chrome) + (ED150) Bean Vac Coffee Canister

Another Cuisinart on this review, but I had to include it. This 12 cup, 24 hour fully programmable coffee maker with buit-in burr grinder really is a great coffee machine. With an 8 ounce bean capacity and a fine tune grind control you will get the coffee aroma and flavor you've been searching for.

The instructions are easy to understand but Cuisinart have included a DVD to show you everything you need.

A great addition to the grind and brew machine is the inclusion of an stand alone bean vac grinder. This grinder in itself works brilliantly. there are some people who will use this rather than the built-in grinder, but it kind of defeats the purpose of buying an all in one grind and brew coffee maker.

I know this review is not the longest of the 5 listed but this Cuisinart DGB-700BC really is great. Easy to clean, no mess but more importantly produces great coffee every time.

Although the Cuisinart has only been reviewed by 4 customers on Amazon, it has a great star rating of 4.5 out of 5. Four of these customers have given it 5 stars.
