What is the best adjustable wrench

Updated on February 17, 2015

An overview of wrenches

It may seem trivial in terms of tools in a workshop, but wrenches are some of the most overlooked pieces of equipment you can have in your tool set. In effect, a lot of people have numerous wrenches for their various jobs, but this provides two potential problems from this off.

The first issue that you have is that if you have a lot of wrenches, then it’s going to take up quite a lot of space within your toolbox and workshop. The other issue that you have is that these wrenches of different sizes normally come in fairly large packages.

Not only is this an expensive option, but it’s also wasteful. This is due to the fact that you might not use all of the sizes of the wrenches, and thus its wasted money. However, there is a solution to this in the form of adjustable wrenches. Having said that, not all of them are created equal which poses the question, what are the best adjustable wrenches?

What are the best adjustable wrenches? Things to look for

We hate to be a stickler for this, but if you’re using your adjustable wrench for any purpose (especially if your work is dependent on it), it’s always much better to buy a high quality brand name than some generic knock off. The whole point of looking for the best adjustable wrench is to save you money rather than buying multiple wrenches. However, if you buy a cheap knock off, there’s a good chance that you’ll end up having to replace it fairly soon since it is of less than adequate quality, so in the long term you’re not really going to be saving any time or money.

Also tied into this is to buy it from reputable dealers, such as a dedicated tool store, or even Amazon. The advantage that Amazon has over a tool store is that they’re generally cheaper and you can use the saved cash to buy other tools.

To this end, we’ve had a look at the two best adjustable wrenches that you can currently buy on Amazon.

Knipex Wrench

Currently, the best adjustable wrench on Amazon is brought to you by the people from Knipex. They’ve really went above and beyond with their adjustable wrench in that they’ve made a special plier wrench that is incredibly easy to use. Rather than having to rotate a spin lock to adjust the wrench, they’ve developed a handy and extremely easy to use push button system. You simply press the button and adjust it to the width you want.

Moreover, it has an extremely slim profile which makes it easy to use in narrow and tight spaces, along with the jaws of the wrench being parallel and smooth which means that there won’t be any damage to your materials. It is a bit pricier than other adjustable wrenches, but the price is well worth it, especially if you’re going to be putting it through heavy use.

Stanley Wrench

For those with a more modest budget, Stanley have came up with a great solution. They have designed an adjustable wrench that also has a locking function on it. The benefit of this is that the wrench will never slip during its use. The benefit of this is that you can complete the job quicker, along with it not damaging the material you’re working on. Further, because it won’t slip, it’s completely safe for you to use and you won’t injure yourself when using it in this regard.

It doesn’t have the push button adjustment system of the Knipex, but despite this, it’s still easy to adjust using their built in spinlock. It also comes at the fraction of the cost of the Knipex, so it’s a bit of a trade off between cost effectiveness and how much you’re going to use it.

Of course, with the Stanley option, you’ve also got complete peace of mind since it’s such a reputable brand name and it also comes with a lifetime warranty for added peace of mind. Regardless of which one of these you choose, we’d highly recommend that you buy one of these since they’re the most popular on Amazon, which in itself is a shining recommendation.
