Replacement china for broken dishes are available both online and in-store. Find replacement dishes by determining specific type in order to replace it correctly and by finding an appropriate dish provider.

China Dishware

China dishware is made of porcelain and often refers to dinnerware used less often than the everyday variety. China has monetary value and/or sentimental value. A rare dish set could be rare and is therefore expensive. Other china pieces are heirlooms, passed down for generations within one family. The latter pieces have value as they remind you of a family member or because they remain in the family for many years.

When you value the dishes, and one or more of the set pieces break, you can find replacements at specialty companies. First, determine exactly what dish you are looking for to ensure you buy the correct one.

How to Find Replacement China Dishes

Many dishes look alike on a Webpage and there are many pattern listings to search through online and in-store. Save yourself time and energy, as well as ensuring that you find the correct replacement dish to match your existing set, by following these tips.

Get Manufacturer's Name and Pattern

Manufacturer name and type of pattern are usually in print on the bottom of the china piece. Record this information, as it will help you get the correct replacement. If you cannot find the information here, some online companies will help you determine the information if you provide a photo of the broken piece to them.

Measure Plate Size

Measure the size of the broken plate before looking for replacement. Usually sets have different sizes and perhaps different styles too. Record the measurement and shape of plate too.

Online Checklist

  • Search for replacement companies using manufacturer's name and pattern.
  • Compare prices between Websites to find best price within your budget.
  • Read customer reviews of companies.
  • Check shipping information to make sure shipping is available to your location.

Where to Find Replacements for Broken Pieces of China

There are companies that specialize in providing china replacements. Ask family and friends if they have suggestions of companies or have had positive experiences with any businesses that offer replacement pieces. While some companies are solely online, others have retail locations for you to visit in-person.

Online Replacement Companies

Armed with manufacturer's name and pattern, as well as size information, you are ready to search online for china replacement companies. If your china is Royal Doulton, for example, try the search phrase Royal Doulton China Repair. Another way to search is by using the phrase China Matching. An example is China Matching Royal Doulton.

Once you find a few specialty providers that sell your china dish, conduct a price comparison. Find the lowest price that fits into your budget. Also, read online reviews (both on the company website and on reputable review sites) for companies of interest. Determine whether consumers have had positive experiences. If not, you may want to use a different provider.

Check the shipping information for the website to ensure the company ships to your country or to your part of the United States. In addition to specialty companies, eBay also sells individual pieces.

Shopping In-Store for China Items

One advantage of shopping in-store is that there is no shipping or handling fees. You also may be able to get a reduction on price if a friend or family member refers you to the company.

When you shop in-store, you also have the advantage of being able to take a broken dish with you. You can then directly compare the piece to an item right at the location to see if they are an exact match. You can ask staff questions and get a reply on the spot, rather than waiting for email replies.

Contact Manufacturer

A third option to find replacement china is to contact the set's manufacturer directly. Check the manufacturer's Website to see if the pieces are available through the site. Some pieces are hard to find online yet may be available quite easily directly through manufacturer.

When you contact the manufacturer, inquire about the warranty of the set. You may find that your broken piece has coverage under a chip replacement policy for a certain number of years. You may just have saved yourself money!

Conclusion

When you have a china set, a dish is bound to get broken at some point in time. Whether the china is valuable for monetary reasons or for its significance, you likely want to replace the broken item. Shop at specialty companies, in-store or online, to get the correct item to complete your set.

Voted up!! My grandmother gifted me a vintage set of China a while back. I have always wanted to use it but it's missing a few pieces. I don't know why I didn't think about searching online or ebay! So happy I stumbled upon your hub!

I've noticed that individual plates are sold on eBay. I'm thinking about collecting plates from garage sales this summer and starting a business doing it. Lots of garage sales have a stack of mismatched plates.

You have some good ideas here.

Informative hub. I collect older pieces because I can't pass them up. I never really thought of newer ones and of course those must be replaced too. Very good.

Christy, truly great information here. I have admit, I have never used my fine china. I have a full set of beautiful Waterford China, but have opted to either use my everyday dishes or casual dishes. Yes, I was that fool thayt registered for all three and somehow got the all, but my fine china sits in its original boxes to have never been touched, yet. What I am waiting for I don't know, but if and when I do use and god forbid break, at least I know where to start, thanks :) Have voted up and shared all over!!
