...not necessarily non-traditional, but unique....was in a small restaurant (a tarp strung between two buildings- a road during the day and an outdoor eatery at night) on the outskirts of Cairo, Egypt.
My Arabic was not sufficient to read the men,u so I ordered what the guy next to me was having - looked like chicken, so what the heck. Meal arrived, I ate it, delicious, of course. The owner proudly scrounged up a souvenir menu in English for me as I left...I think it must have been pigeon (you could hear them cooing behind the crates that blocked the alley access) and Fava beans. He underlined what I had ordered and just eaten....
'Foul and Bens'...probably would not have ordered that straight-up. ha
