   first you have to get it clean.there are many products from any building supply or home improvement store that is available for this. It needs to be dry before applying any product.Then i would suggest that you make sure that all the boards are tight and none are loose. Using coated exterior deck screws.Then they have many products available that can either stain it a certain color or leave it natural. Make sure to tarp anything underneath the deck that you don't want to get stain on.Cut in  around the edges with a regular brush. The best way to apply is with a roller,pan and handle.

   I completely agree with handymanbill, but another good thing you may want to try is a quick power wash of the deck....no need to use chemicals that way.
   
   My father-in-law swears by linseed oil, I personally have only used deck selants made for that purpose, but I did see my brother-in-laws deck which was treated with linseed oil.  It looked stunning.

   Use a good stripper first, then a belt sander to get rid of any leftover stains and residue. Check for loose screws and planks and if you need to redo them, there are yellow and brown coated deck screws, you want to use one of these. Make sure that there are 3 screws in a row across each plank where they are fastened, this will keep them from curling later. Place plastic bisqueen under the deck if you don't want a mess. Now make sure the whole area is clean before starting. Use a very fine mat roller to apply linseed oil let that dry overnight. Take a small sanding pad and touch up any bad areas, then add another coat, it will look natural and hold up for several years.

   Clean out any blocked areas between the wood made boards that may be filled with dirt, wood made rot or mold by using a powerful hose misting nozzle. Use a putty blade to push out any constant trash. Let the wood made dry completely and then brush away any staying trash.
   
   Wear rubber gloves and scrub the wood with trisodium phosphate (TSP) following the manufacturer's directions; use a stiff-bristle scrub brush or push broom to clean any large, dark stains.
   
   Implement the wooden dirt following the company's guidelines, using a colour curler with an expansion connection for the manage. Use the curler to dirt the wooden by moving back and forth over a few forums at a time. Use a colour sprayer to dirt patios or verandas with large areas of wooden by easily treating the forums following the wooden feed.
