A lot...I just normally go buy meat and my garden have all the vegetable that I need for food I cook. Therefore, I save a lot each month...about 100 dollar just depend on how much Ibs of vegetable I would probably buy from the store and how much it cost per Ib. So I'm not sure how much per year...maybe 800-1000 dollar per year...like I said it really depend.
Hmm, good question. I was just wondering that about my garden. I haven't bought lettuce or spinach at all this year, and soon I'll have lots of tomatoes and basil! I bet at least 100 bucks for the summer, probably more.
This year, my garden has cost me..........
Excessive drought, triple digit , ( record breaking heat ) temperatures...............the fruit has been sunburned on the vine...............I have even put up patio umbrellas, watered both morning and evening......to no avail.
It has rendered a few salads, and a few potatoes.
I am looking forward to the fall crop.
My garden is a personal hobby, I am not dependent upon it for a living, as are farmers and ranchers are. I read earlier this week that the " feed lots" were seeing a 1000% increase...........Ranchers can not feed the cattle, the " feed lots" are the final stop between rancher and butcherer, and then comes the processors and the shippers..... this is not good news......the feed lots are overloaded......
I wonder if any of us will be able to host an abundant holiday meal this winter season!
Grocery prices are going to be very bad! The prices are already on a steady incline.
This season, my garden has offered me little hope of supplementing the table.
I haven't really calculated how much money my garden has saved me in previous years, as we eat differently in the summer than the winter. In the summer we have zucchini, potatoes, lettuce, beans, Swiss chard, tomatoes, peppers, radishes, carrots etc; many of these things are not items we buy in the winter. If I were to factor a guess I would think it saves at least $500 per year.
I don't have much savings from my garden instead i am spending every year for new flowers. Now i have lots of winter resistent plants and flowers to save a little. I started planting herbs so i guess i can save around 5 to 10 CHF/week not buying herbs.
I live in Sacramento California... Summer here is three months of 90 plus degree weather. It is not uncommon to have weeks of triple digit hot spells. When I moved here we had three weeks where the temperature was above 110 degrees...the gardened thrived. @ onegoodwoman: If you are planting in containers, I would check the soil. Potting soil drys out really quickly which may be why you are having so much trouble keeping the garden alive. The same is true of sandy soil. A good fix would be to add clay to the soil to hold the water in. Drought is difficult to deal with and disparaging. The plight of the farmers and ranchers is horrible. the quality of the weather has certainly changed a great deal. It has gotten to the point that gardening has become difficult. We have days where the temperature varies by as much as 20 degrees from one day to the next. How do you choose what to plant when the weather is so sporadic. Frustrating as it is, there is always hope.
Last year my garden saved me about $650. The size of my garden is 12x12 foot square. This year, the garden is off to a slow start. We shall have to see how the summer fares.

How much money do you save in a year?Do you borrow more? Barely make ends meet? Or do you actually save money each year for the future? Less than $1,000? More than $5,000?

How much money do you save on groceries - when using coupons? (per month)

Originally the Question was "Someone just gave you a thousand dollars, how would you spend it", but the answers lacked a bit of inspiration, it was brought to my attention that $1000.00 isn't inspirational...most would use it to pay bills, etc. so think bigger...how much money would...
