Four years ago, I met my partner and moved from Scotland to England to be with him. It meant leaving behind my parents, my brother and all my friends and relatives. I live 500 miles away from them and miss them terribly. I feel so guilty that I don't get to see them as much as I would like. My parents and I were very close and lived so near to each other before.
I call my family twice a week and speak to them. I managed to get my mum onto Facebook, so I can speak to her and my dad and post photos etc to her. I try to get up to Scotland twice a year - usually April and August each year. My parents come down usually at Christmas for a week to spend with us, and my brother usually comes down to visit us for a few days each year.
It is very difficult when you are homesick, and it can have an effect on your life. You can overcome this by staying in touch and trying to get home for a visit whenever you can. It always does me good to see my family, and spend time with them. The time we do spend together is precious and we all have fun when we are together. I also send texts to say hello and that I am thinking of them.
