   Ammonia is a certified scum remover because it dissolves fat that makes up the bulk of soap scum. Don't forget to use gloves when cleaning with ammonia because it can hurt your skin. It's a strong liquid solvent with huge concentrations that can irritate your eyes. You'll need liquid ammonia (for household use), a measuring cup, a spray bottle and a clean towel.
   
   Make an ammonia solution by mixing one part of ammonia to two parts of water. For instance, if you're using a cup, mix one cup of ammonia with two cups of water.
   Place your ammonia solution in a spray bottle and you can start spraying the solution on the problem areas. You should see the soap scum slowly softening.
   Once you see it breaking apart, wipe the scum off with a piece of rag or towel.
   After the scum is removed, you need to rinse the area thoroughly to make sure the ammonia residue is removed as well.

      I like this answer because it is natural and not full on chemicals, though I hear you, I still need to be careful.  Thank you for all the step by step instructions.

   As long as we shower and bathe (and let's hope that we do)  and use soap....there will be soap scum.  Easiest, quickest way for me is .....while the tub and surround are still wet, wipe down with a a small bit of "C.L.R."  or "Lime Away." on a damp sponge......rinse and it's done.   Porcelain sparkles clean.....I keep a bottle of CLR and a sponge in the vanity cabinet......E-Z.

   Lime Away works wonders for me.  It gets the soap scum and since we have fairly hard water it gets the hard water stains too.

      Lime away is something I have not tried yet, so I will give it a try to get myself at least to ground zero with soap scum.

   I can totally relate to this! After several years of hard scrubbing every time I cleaned the bath or shower, I just switched everyone to body wash.  If expense or sensitive skin is an issue, the baby body wash in the baby aisle works just fine and is cheap, I find. Now cleaning the shower or bath is a breeze!

      What a great idea!  Beat soap scum, at the onset.  I will change to the body wash in the baby aisle which will probably be gentler for our skin.  Our skin will not dry out as much.

      Thanks for your comment! If you go this route, buy one which comes in a pump dispenser (the store brand of baby body wash does where I shop) - or use own dispenser.  So you don't waste time in shower when the body wash gets low. Easy! (& no dry s

   If you want to try from a retail store, try Tilex Mildew and Soap scum remover works fine.
   If you want to try commercial grade, try Shooter from Dynamic Research.
   Note: Read all the instructions and cautions, before using Shooter and try small sample area first.

   I always loved my Scrubbing Bubbles by DOW.  Spray it on and wipe on with a sponge and it comes right off.  Love that stuff!  It makes the shower, sink, and toilet sparkly and shiny and I like the fresh clean smell of it.

      Yes, Scrubbing Bubbles do make everything shinny, the only problem I have with using Scrubbing Bubbles is that I get a head ache.  I guess I am just sensitive to it.

   Ewww I HATE any kind of scum!  I am such a germ freak seeing that would make me itch.  Use bleach, but be sure to use it when you're NOT at home....leave the windows open.
