   How do you organize your closet?
   
   Have you bought expensive closet organizers?  Or have you found another way to organize your closet?

   I'm lucky in that I have several huge closets. One is a coat closet just for coats, jackets, gloves, scarves and hats. The linen closet in my bathroom has seperate shelves I use for towels, sheets and toiletries.
   
   It's how I keep my clothes closets organized that really helps me, though. I hang all of my clothes by type (short sleeved shirts, capris, jeans, etc.) and put the empty hangers in the same place so I don't have to hunt them. I put what I use the least, dresses and sweaters, both at opposite ends of the closet so I won't paw through them looking for something else.
   
   I've got two hanging fabric organizers for my shoes - they just look like boxes stacked on top of each other and all my bags and purses go on the shelf over the rack. I have myself convinced that I can't buy any more shoes because all of the sections are full.
   
   I find that organizing by type helps me find things more easily and makes it easy to put newly laundered clothes away too. If I had less closet space, however, this would probably have been impossible.

   This is one chore/project that I actually enjoy, believe it or not.  Recently, during Spring Cleaning, I re-organized the many closets in my house, so it's all fresh in my mind.
   I haven't had to invest in closet organizers, but I know they are invaluable, depending on your particular situation.
   I find it necessary to empty a closet, completely.  A thorough cleaning from top to bottom, walls, shelves & floor, comes first.   
   The time-consuming part, comes next......but it usually ends up being fun and "enlightening."   This is where I find all sorts of interesting things......that I may have been looking for, for months!   The 3-pile system works well:  Keep, Toss & re-locate.   Being somewhat of a hoarder, it takes time to convince myself to simply throw away, totally old, worn-out, useless junk, that thus far, I was unable to toss.   
   Then comes the re-stacking, hanging & storing.....placing everything, ever so neatly and compactly as possible.  After all the years of closet organizing, I believe I've got it down to a science and am always pleased with a job, well-done.  A few years back, I decided to make a "list" of the closet contents and tape this to the wall or on a shelf, where I can easily see it, for future searching.  This prevents having to "tear apart," all my hard work, while frantically looking for one little thing!  Great feeling of accomplishment!

   Clothes are hung by color, then by fabric, then by style. Dresses on one side. Shirts on top of the other half, pants and skirts on the bottom row of other half. Shoes are in organized pairs near the front door. Belts coiled in easy to spot rows. Hats are hung near the front door for easy grab use. Boxes of memorabilia are on the top shelf. Bottom of closet has beds for the cats.

   Fortunately, I have a walk-in closet (first time ever) and at first I thought there would be no way I could fill it all up. Wrong. My husband and I share the closet and he is on the left as you walk in, myself on the right. My clothes are sorted first tops, pants, skirts and dresses. Things I use only on occasion are which are seasonal are towards the back of the closet. My shoes are directly under my tops. I don't usually arrange my husband's clothes, but he keeps them by color and type. Since he is a professor, he has half of his closet side with white shirts and ties and pants. Suits are filed separately as are Aloha shirts (he is Polynesian). We also have one chest for family memorabilia/geneology/family history and one chest where I keep my slips, swimming suits, nylons and socks. I find life goes much better when there is a place assigned for everything and everything in it's place. I was raised by a neat freak, so it sort of rubbed off much to my husband's dismay. (but he always asks me where to find things, so I guess it isn't so bad)! Aloha

   I enjoy organizing closets, that includes where I have to store toiletries and all that. I don't buy closet organizers, I get ideas from DIY and I enjoy how I can create colorful homemade dividers all made out of boxes. I loved it that it's all what is needed to give life to old and rustic closets.
   
   This way I can arrange things according to category. I sort clothes by requirement. Dresses and other special occasion stuffs are on hangers, along with pants. Sports shirts and leggings also have their own division, lol. I enjoy just looking at them perfectly folded they're like those shirts filed in a department store rack.
   
   Bags and belts go with little boxes of little somethings. Softer bags or those that don't stand on their own are on hangers, then shoes have their own spaces, as well. The funny thing is there are times I still forget where I stuck a few things that I spend a lot of time digging, lol.

   My latest method is using the vacuum bags where all those clothing, blankets, pillows, towels, etc that I will not be using to save the space in my closet.
