This plant sprang up when we moved into our house and I just love the beautiful flowers on it but I have no idea what it is.  Does anyone know?

    Thanks!

Thanks so much.  I've never seen it around here before and have never seen it in a garden store.  Mystery solved!  smile

Lucy Thomas is right that was the one I also thought of when I saw the photo.

Once you have these in your garden you will find that they flourish and multiply and eventuallyt you will end up with enough of them to give the corms/litle bulblets to all your friends.

I have a more orangey version of this and in th UK it also goes by the name of Montbretia.

They are starting to lose their flowers now Sofs but this is one that I took a couple of weeks ago.  I just love them because they attract hummingbirds.

      Thanks everyone for your information!

I'm not sure that this was really a closer shot of the flowers but I'll try to get out there today and take a closer picture for you.

I'm almost certain it's Crocosmia Lucifer (although I haven't seen it in real life before).  The reason? I noticed straight away that the foliage was very typical of that from a bulb, drawing upon my gardening experience.  Going forward on that assumption, I did a Google images search for "red bulb flower" and found pics almost identical to yours in 2 places, both labelled as Crocosmia lucifer.

The 2 links that I found are pasted below - they both contain pics of other types of flowers as well, so you'll have to scroll down the page a bit to find the Crocosmia lucifer:
