Bridge Over Troubled Water

Bridge Over Troubled Water

Bridge Over Troubled Water Background

Bridge Over Troubled Water performed by Simon and Garfunkel was the number one hit song of 1970. I don't think many would disagree that Bridge Over Troubled Water is also one of the greatest 70s songs of all time. The haunting lyrics combined with the sweet melodic voice of Art Garfunkel just can't be beat. Most everyone has heard this top 70s song. I think it would be difficult to find someone that doesn't love this hit 70s song.

Bridge Over Troubled Water was played at my graduation ceremony, as I'm sure it was performed at many other graduations around the world. Bridge Over Troubled lyrics are perfect for any occasion that causes reflection. It the ultimate 70s song about unconditional love.

Bridge Over Troubled Water has been performed by many mega talented singers, including Elvis Presley, Aretha Franklin, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, Clay Aiken, as well as many others. As much as I love Elvis Presley, I believe that Simon and Garfunkel Bridge Over Troubled Water has everyone else beat. But Elvis Presley Bridge Over Troubled Water version is a close second.

Eva Cassidy was a superlative artist and it was good to hear her again. Folks should listen to her albums and be swooned. Her 'Over The Rainbow' and 'I Know You By Heart' are two of my favorites. Thanks for including her here.

Tim, I had not heard of Eva Cassidy until I found her singing Bridge Over Troubled Water and I had to include it. She is a phenomenal singer. It's so sad she died so young. And you are welcome.

Great hub. 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' is a beautiful song. I like Willie Nelson's version of it best, but maybe that's just because that was the version I heard most often growing up :-)

I wasn't aware that Willie Nelson sang Bridge Over Troubled Water, believe it or not. I'm going to try to find it. It would be cool if this could turn into a compilation of all the popular performances of the song.

Whatever is said about the hits of 1970, they still make great listenership today, i dnt mean to be old fashion, but the raps of today just takes away the true aroma of music! It seems to me the music of the 70s are just good today as they were then, they are classical!

I was going to post a link, but I see you found it! I love seeing how all of these different artists have approached the same song.

What a wonderful hub, Angela. Whenever I hear this song, I'm instantly taken back to 1970, to my feelings, thoughts, and emotions then. I never heard the other artists' renditions. I just now listened to all of them, and the bridge is solidly beneath my feet.

Absolutely no one can do "Bridge Over Troubled Waters" better than the originals. But, you're right Elvis is a close second. Aretha Franklin did one major BUTCHER job on it. Clay Aikens did a good job with it. But no one will ever beat Simon and Garfunkel. They were and still are my favorites. Even after all these years.

Simon and Garfunkel are best. Clay Aiken after them

Elvis and Simon & Garfunkel' version I like best. Different but powerful. Eva Cassidy is not bad either.
