Great Books to Help You Get Out of Debt
Getting out of debt is becoming more and more important for people in the United States. The economy is suffering, there is a credit card and mortgage crisis, even the government is deep in debt. Now is the time for people to take charge of their finances and stop letting the minimum payments control them. If you ever want to get ahead financially and stop stressing about money, then you have to start by getting out of debt. There are many good books to help you on your way.
My favorite book that helps people payoff their debt is Dave Ramsey's The Total Money Makeover. In it Ramsey has certain steps that he thinks a person should take (in order) to help them payoff their debt. His plan is excellent and well thought out and easy to achieve, with hard work. The drawback that many people have is that he is a very religious person and frequently talks about what the Bible says. This is fine with me; however some people have a problem with it and think that money and religion shouldn't mix.
Another book that has a good plan is How to Get Out of Debt, Stay Out of Debt, and Live Prosperously by Jerrold Mundis. Published in 1990 this book is based on the Debtor's Anonymous principles. The ABC's of Getting Out of Debt, written by Garrett Sutton is a detailed plan to turn bad debt into good debt and bad credit into good credit. While the plan might be good, I prefer the no debt method, and other than a mortgage I don't really think there is any good debt.
Suze Orman has many books out dealing with finances. Her book Nine Steps To Financial Freedom talks about getting out of debt and the steps needed to get ahead financially. Orman tends to deal with women and finances a lot and has many good ideas. Debt Proof Living by Mary Hunt is full of great ideas on ways to get out of debt too.
Your Money or Your Life by Joe Dominquez and Vicki Robin is an excellent book to read regardless of your financial position. If you are serious and about making changes and getting out of debt, this book will provide you with a lot of motivation that will help you make the choices in your life to get you where you want to be. I have read it several times and take new things from each time.
There are many, many books on finances and getting out of debt. If you want to get control of your finances read some of these books I mentioned and start on your path to financial freedom today.
