It Seems Like Only Yesterday
It Seems Like Only Yesterday by Bonnie Ramsey
It seems like only yesterday, I held you in my arms,
Sheltering you from all of life's pain, protecting you from harm.
It seems like only yesterday you were learning how to walk,
Searching for new discoveries, learning how to talk.
It seems like only yesterday, I took you off to school,
Praying that your aim was high and you'd learn the golden rules.
It seems like only yesterday, you became "sweet sixteen".
You learned to drive, started to date and thought you knew everything.
But as the years have passed, there's one thing that I don't think you know...
And that's the heartache a parent feels to realize they must let you go.
For, just the way the butterfly must spread his wings to fly,
We must allow your heart to soar, no matter how much we cry.
Just as the eagles learn to soar the mighty skies of blue,
We can only weep with pride and pray the same things for you.
So, although today shall mark the end of the way things used to be,
We'll stand in pride as you shall soar to find the dreams you seek.
But wherever life shall lead you throughout your awaiting world,
Just remember, you will always be Mama and Daddy's precious girl!
