Massages are a necessity, not a luxury

Treat your body right

In this day and age, with the economy failing and life's everyday worries pushing all "non-emergent" items to the side, we tend to cut back more on things that we see in our mind as unnecessary, or a "luxury".  I myself, being in the spa and wellness business, have seen it firsthand.  Business is slowing as people save their pennies for items which they feel they cannot live without.  I myself have had to make some changes. 

There is one item, however, which is so integral to our health, that I feel I need to speak and recognize how important it really is to our everyday lives.  What might this be?  Massage.  I know, I know.  I can hear what you are saying.  This is a treat, not necessary for living.  But it is so much more than that.  Even if you just get one massage a month, or a half hour versus an hour, the benefits are enormous and much needed in today's society.

Stressed?  Depressed?  Massage can help with all that.  As well as the obvious physical benefits - increased circulation, better blood flow, better flow of oxygen to the muscles, decreasing of pain and fatigue - massage benefits your mind in so many ways that noone ever thinks of.  Massage releases endorphins, giving you a "feel good" factor lasting days, perhaps weeks.  It can give you a peace of mind which nothing else can give.   Another added plus is the therapeutic laying on of hands by another human being.  Even if nothing is said, you can be sure that at least one person in the world - i.e., your massage therapist - knows that you need relief from stress and strain and wants to help you to obtain that relief, not through drugs, but through massage, a tried and trusted age old method that really works.  How many modalities can you say that about in this day and age?  Not many.

My whole point is, massage is viewed as a luxury and not a necessity, but I really feel it should be the other way around.  You get a feeling leaving a massage that you just can't put into words. The peace and relaxation is like nothing I have ever experienced.  If more people looked upon massage this way, perhaps they would not buy that shirt they don't really need, or maybe not go out for one night, to give themselves the tranquil state they really deserve.  Massage can help you like nothing else can; give it a try and I promise you will not be disappointed.  Besides, you can always go out to eat next week.   Get yourself a massage today and experience the zen that I am talking about - you will definitely find it easier to get up and face another day.

I completely agree with you. Massages is a great way to reduce stress, especially during the present days in the U.S. It's the safest way to feel good. Most people result to smoking and drinking, but I'd rather result to massages.
