South Beach Diet Phase 1 at Bonefish Grill
It's pretty easy to find something acceptable on Phase 1 of the South Beach Diet at a seafood restaurant, but with Bonefish Grill, there are even more choices than at other chains. That's because there are plenty of grilled and sauteed options and less fried food.
Here is a summary of the best Phase 1 options at Bonefish:
Saucy Shrimp--Wild Gulf shrimp are sauteed in a lime tomato garlic sauce with kalamata olives and feta cheese. Phase 1 gold.
Mussels Josephine--Mussels sauteed and served with tomatoes, garlic, basil and a lemon wine sauce
Ahi Tuna Sashimi--Sesame seared ahi tuna that is seared, sliced thin and served with wasabi and pickled ginger. You can order a half or full order, so if it's just for you, go with the smaller portion.
Bacon Wrapped Atlantic Sea Scallops--These are topped with a mango chuntey, and all fruit is off limits on Phase 1, so just eat them as is.
Bonefish Caesar--Romain lettuce with garlic croutons and Parmesan cheese. Make sure you skip the croutons and ask for the dressing on the side.
Bonefish House Salad--Chopped greens are topped with tomatoes, kalamata olives, hearts of palm, roasted pine nuts, and tossed with a citrus herb vinaigrette. Just ask for the dressing on the side and use it sparingly.
Florida Cobb Salad--Chopped greens topped with jerk chicken, avocado, mango, tomatoes, blue cheese, pine nuts and citrus herb vinaigrette. Just ask for them to omit the mango and get the dressing on the side.
Note: All entrees are served with seasonal vegetables and choice of a side. The only acceptable side is a steamed vegetable medley, but you can also order a side salad for a small fee.
Grilled Fish--All of these are served with your choice of lemon butter sauce, Mediterranean sauce, mango salsa or Pan Asian. I would say go with the lemon butter or Mediterranean sauce on the side. Fish options are many: Arctic charr, gulf grouper, sea scallops & shrimp, ahi tuna, Alaskan halibut, Chilean sea bass, Atlantic salmon, longfin tilapia, or cold water lobster tails.
Pistachio Parmesan Crusted Rainbow Trout--You can also order this grilled, which you probably should in case the crusting has any bread. This is sauteed and topped with artichokes and a basil lemon butter (ask for this on the side).
Tenderloin Portabella Piccata--Pork tenderloin is dusted with garlic, grilled and topped with a portabella piccata sauce.
Chicken Marsala--Fire roasted chicken with prosciutto, mushrooms and a marsala wine sauce.
Lily's Chicken--Fire roasted chicken is topped with goat cheese, wilted spinach, artichokes, and a lemon basil sauce.
Fontina Chops--2 thick boneless pork chops are topped with fontina cheese and a mushroom garlic wine sauce. You probably don't need to eat both chops, so take one home with you.
Filet Mignon--A center cut seasoned and grilled filet. They serve a 6 oz. or an 8 oz., so go with the smaller cut.
Sirloin Steak--A 10 oz. center cut seasoned and grilled steak.
Acceptable Phase 1 beverages at Bonefish are water, Diet Coke, unsweetened iced tea, coffee, or San Pellegrino sparkling water.
All of the choices are high in fat and/or sugar, so have some coffee and then eat your ricotta creme or sugar free gelatin when you get home.
