South Beach Diet Phase 1 at Buffalo Wild Wings

There are some restaurants that might make you feel like you are completely sabotaging your diet if you're trying to follow Phase 1 of South Beach. Buffalo Wild Wings is one of them, because most of the fare is so called "bar food," featuring deep fried chicken wings doused in thick sauces. In addition, most of the appetizers are deep-fried or carb-laden, and the burgers, sandwiches and wraps are based on the biggest South Beach no-no: bread.

Fortunately, there are a few great options a Buffalo Wild Wings, and we've listed them here. Enjoy!

Salads

Garden Salad--Fresh greens, tomatoes and onions topped with a blend of cheeses and crispy garlic croutons. Just steer clear of the croutons, and ask for a low-carb dressing like ranch or blue cheese on the side.

Grilled Chicken Salad--The same garden salad above is topped with a seasoned and grilled chicken breast. Once again, ask for the croutons to be omitted and order a low-carb dressing on the side.

Grilled Blackened Chicken Salad--Grilled chicken breast with a roasted garlic rub served over their garden salad. Same rules apply about the croutons and dressing.

Chicken Caesar Salad--Seasoned grilled chicken breast over a Caesar salad topped with Parmesan cheese and croutons. As always, ask for them to leave off the croutons and ask for the dressing on the side.

Other Entrees

Naked Chicken Tenders--This is a tailor made SBD Phase 1 dish. Instead of breaded and fried tenders, you can order them (4-piece or 6-piece) grilled with no breading, and then add your favorite dipping sauce. Just be careful, because a lot of the sauces offered at Buffalo Wild Wings are loaded with sugar. In other words, stay away from barbeque or teriyaki sauces and opt for one of these (just remember to use them sparingly):

Wing Sauce--Available in Mild, Medium, Hot, Wild or Blazin'.

Spicy Garlic--Tasty, spicy, garlicky sauce.

Caribbean Jerk--A red pepper sauce with island spices

Beverages

Acceptable choices at Buffalo Wild Wings are water, coffee, unsweetened iced tea, or Diet Coke.

Dessert

Same rules apply as with any South Beach Diet Phase 1 dining out experience. Just have some coffee, and then eat your ricotta creme or sugar free gelatin at home.

Avoid the Caribbian Jerk sauce, it has a bunch of carbs.
