The Heavenly Man by Brother Yun : A Book Review

The Heavenly Man by Brother Yun : A Book Review

Last Christmas of 2008, I gifted my self with a Christmas present. It is the book “The Heavenly Man” by Chinese Christian brother Yun. And indeed, the book has become one of the greatest blessings I received from God in the year 2008. The book surely moved me and drove me to tears as I was filled with the Holy Spirit as I read the book. No book before has ever touched me as I was moved by the book “The Heavenly Man”. I may say, so far this is the book that impacted my life the most, next to The Holy Bible. I have already read so many books before, many entertained me, motivated me, inspired me, encouraged me, instructed me but none so far has moved me the way I was moved by “The Heavenly Man”. This book is a must read for every Christian, particularly for those living in convenience and complascency. This book will surely awaken your sleeping soul. From cover to cover, the book has awakened the spirit of complascency in me.

The book is a life testimony of Chinese Christian, Brother Yun. One of the leaders of China’s persecuted Christian house churches. This is a story of God’s awesome power and marvelous mercy in the life of a young, half-starved boy from a poor village in Henan province. Brother Yun is a man who despite his relative youth has suffered prolonged torture and imprisonment for his faith.

The Lord called brother Yun to follow him at age of 16. The year was 1974, and the Cultural Revolution was still raging throughout China. At that time, Brother Yun’s father was very sick. He suffered from lung cancer. The cancer then spread to his stomach. The doctor told him he could not be cured and would soon die. Brother Yun’s dad sickness sapped all their money, possessions and energy. Because of their poverty, Brother Yun wasn’t able to attend school until the age of nine, but he had to drop out at sixteen because of his father’s sickness. He and his siblings were forced to beg food from their neighbors and friends just to survive.

Brother Yun’s mother was under great pressure facing the daunting prospect of raising five children alone. Things had become so hopeless that she even contemplated suicide. One night, brother Yun’s mother was lying on her bed, barely awake. Suddenly, she heard a very clear and tender, compassionate voice says “Jesus loves you”. She knelt down on the floor and tearfully repented of her sins and rededicated herself to the Lord Jesus Christ. She immediately called her family to come and pray to JESUS. She told her children, “Jesus is the only hope for our father”. All of them committed their lives to God when the heard what had happened. Then they laid their hands on his father and cried out a simple prayer, “Jesus, heal father. Jesus, heal father”. The very next morning, Brother Yun’s father found he was much better. For the first time in months, he had an appetite for food. Within a week, he had recovered completely and had no trace of cancer. It was indeed a great miracle from God. Brother Yun not only receive Jesus as his personal savior, but he also become a person who really wanted to serve the Lord with all his heart.

This is the beginning of brother Yun’s journey to the most exciting and faith filled walk of a true believer of Jesus Christ. Since then, Jesus Christ become very real to him.

The conversion of brother Yun is just one of the great highlights of the book. There are many other great highlights such as how brother Yun obtained miraculously, his first copy of The Holy Bible, how he fasted for 74 days without taking any food and water in a prison and survived, how he escaped miraculously from a maximum security prison. I will stop here, I won’t tell any more details. You better have a copy of the book now, and read the marvelous story of God’s mercy to brother Yun and his family.

There are many great stories of miracles in the book, a vivid display of God’s awesome power, but what moved me the most that draw me to tears is the realization of God’s marvelous mercy and grace to brother Yun.

This is indeed a story of God’s Amazing Grace. It really amazes me when I have seen it in the life of Brother Yun.

Please mail a copy of this book. I shall pay for the cost of the book including the freight charges. I hope to be inspired too. I know I am the modern day Elijah in the making, somehow. Thanks
