What Life is Really All About
What Life is Really All About?
"For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich".
2 Cor. 8:9
Life is so mysterious, as mysterious as the vast universe. From the start men of extra-ordinary intelligence have tried to dig dipper into its mysteries. Theories have been developed regarding its origin, but only to create further confusions.
Have you ever wondered what life is really all about? About its real purpose? The very purpose of your own life? Where have you come from and where are you heading to?
When I came to life, the world has already established its own system of living. When I aws born into this earth, the world has already established its standard for life. I was made to believe that life is to compete for honor , to achieve self-glory or to reach the height of glory, to work hard for wealth and prosperity, to acquire more and more possessions, and many more pride of life. I myself was completely deceived and disillusioned.
Life is full of wonders. It is also filled with great things. To many, life is a battlefield, it is filled with struggles. This idea is for those who are competing tirelessly for glory, honor, prosperity, security and stability. To the mediocrity life is rearing a family, bringing up children to success. To so many, life is to be in love and to be loved. For many who were so desperate and broken-hearted, life has already ceased. That's why not very few ended their lives for the lost of love. Partly correct, but not absolutely. These things partly comprise life but I believe this is not the totality of life.
Let us examine life closely, let us take the example of a certain man that represents majority. This man has been born first to see life, then comes his celebrated infancy that gives much pleasures to his loving parents. After infancy comes the precious and naughty childhood days that are marked by further physical development. Then comes the adventurous stage of an adolescent, followed by the unforgetable college life. After college life comes the challenging years of his career. After that, the most cherished years of his courtship. Then followed by the most awaited event of life "marriage".
Being married, it is also the appointed time to start a family, to rear up children, bring them up to become successful people of the society, people that will further add glory to his famed name. After accomplishing these things successfully, the childern have to go also, for they have their own families to build. Not too long after this, he has now entered his golden years. The last stage of life which is senility. This is the stage where he has consumed almost all of his energy.
Sad to say, this is the stage when the signs of mortality would have grown strong. He cannot help it. He was so much enchanted with life, with the fascinating alurements of its youth, that he almost forget, with life is also the frightening years of old age. Finally, comes the most feared moment of death. His episode is over, everything about him now is a closed book. He was finally disalligned from the
chapters of the living. He now belongs to the dead. This is life, it started so beautifully, but ended with so much pain. This is the cycle of life that traps men. Is this life all about? Are these the only things stored for life? What a disheartening reality.
But praise God this is not so. There is much more to be expected in life. As the Lord says in John 10:10b:
" I have come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly."
When God created man , there must be a purpose. When a man is born into life, he sets to establish his own destiny. Apart from God, we work out our own destiny in vain. As young as we are, we define our dreams. What life is really all about? Is it to experience as many things as we can? Or to achieve as many glories? Then after that, what else? What are those glories for? What are those experiences for?
God, the one and only author of life designs life to be as beautiful and as meaningful. He wants our life to be a life of great purpose, never intended to be a life of vanity and futility. Yes, we are born with a purpose. That is to know personally the great and awesome God of the Universe and experience His wonderful love. And after knowing Him, worshiping and serving Him follows. I believe that is the real purpose of our life, if not we are simply existing and soon to fade away.Remembering, seeking and loving God,who is the most beautiful Person of the Universe, that is the best way to live a meaningful life, else life is a folly.
