Oy vey...yes, while most parents think, stupidly, that their children are gifted. My oldest, was always straight A's and Honor Rolls. He could pass without trying, HOWEVER, this did not mean he was at all gifted and I never thought he was. My youngest is different. He was tested with the psychological test and IQ test that they give to tell if children are gifted. The psychologist said he scored above average but his ADHD made it difficult for him to finish which meant she couldn't really say, but personally believed he is gifted and should be tested in another 2 years. He is now medicated and gets straight A's like his brother, but he is unusual in his intelligence and ability to contribute to class about WW II, History in general and geography. He blows adults away with his conversational abilities and his vocabulary was always impressive. At the United Nations they took his picture because they had never met a 5 year old that knew every single flag for every single country. (Do you know how many countries there are?)
Just because people say "Oh all parents think their kids are this or that" does not mean your child is not. You have to take him/her to an expert and let them tell you. Test him/her. They very well could be and then certain steps have to be taken to support their giftedness, such as education, extracurricular activities, special attention to how they learn, specific areas of giftedness, and so on.
