Macaws and Quakers seem to be the best pet that will interact with people and teaching the bird to talk is really fun.
We had a Quaker that always said, "Good Morning" and "Come Here”.
If the door bells rings, She would say, "Pizza's Here”. If the phone rings she would carry on a one-sided conversation with herself based on your previous telephone conversation.
Great company and entertainment. Get a young bird so you can handle the bird without being bit. Also, be willing to pass them down to the next generation because they have a long life span and you do want your pet to be taken care of as long as they live.
