Depends on what you're getting the degree in.
It used to be that if you got an M.B.A., you could write your ticket to a great job...then the bottom fell out of the economy and businesses didn't want to pay top dollar. A college degree is no longer a sure ticket to getting a good paying job.
If you get a degree in accounting, nursing or anything of a technical nature, you will get a job. In fact, people will be courting you before you graduate!
But if you're getting a job in something that has few positions available (like archaeology or ancient Greek), odds are, even with a degree, you'll never land a job. And if you get a Masters in Social Work...count on salaries in the low 20's!
You can certainly get a job without a degree. You can open a business. And you can be successful, if you've got drive and moxie. Depends on what you want and what your plans are.
