You are sure to feel deeply annoyed at the huge amount of electricity bills that comes to your doorstep during the summer season. It will be a period when you will find it immensely hard to control your electricity bill and you cannot blame anyone for this, as this is quite a common phenomenon.

But there are some easy tips and strategies that can help you in cutting down your electricity bills to some extent. These tips will not ultimately reduce your electricity bill considerably to a lower level, but still it can work out in curbing your electricity expenses. Hope these tips become useful for all of those who are badly in need of ways to control their electricity bills.

1) Plant more Trees
Planting trees around your house can in turn provide you enough shade and also a cool atmosphere inside your house, especially during the summer. If you are not feeling the heat inside your house, the chances of utilizing your electric equipments for cooling down will decrease. So always start planting trees around your house that can provide enough shade and keep your house cool.

2) Stay Together in a Common Area
During the peak summer season, it is recommended for all the members of a house to stay in a common area as this will reduce the usage of electrical equipment in scattered location. Buy staying in a common location; you need to use the electric equipments only in that particular area rather than using in other areas of your house.

3) Turn of Electric Appliances After Use
Turning of your electric appliances after use is one of the best way to curb your electricity bill and this practice is not just confined to the summer season, rather it is applicable to all seasons.

4) Use CFL or LED bulbs
CFL or LED bulbs are well known for their low power consumption and it is always better to replace your filament bulb with CFL and LED bulbs to reduce your electric consumption and lower your electricity bill to a considerable amount.

5) Adjust your AC and Refrigerator
Air conditioners and refrigerators are two electrical appliances that consumes too much power and are of more use during the summer season. If you adjust your AC and refrigerator wisely, you will be able to save considerable amount of electricity.

6) Use Electric Fans Instead of ACs
If you are feeling the heat during the summer, then it is a common habit of turning on your ACs. But if you can cool yourself with electric fans, rather than with ACs, you will potentially be saving a lot on your electricity bill.

7) Avoid Heavy Electric Appliances
There will be a lot of heavy electric appliances that are potentially great power eaters. It is always recommended to reduce or even avoid such heavy electric appliances atleast during the summer seasons.

8) Keep Windows Open
Majority of the heat inside the room can be reduced to some extent, if you keep open the windows of your rooms, as it will allow fresh air to pass through and cool the inside of your house. It will indeed reduce the usage of fan, ACs and other room cooling electric appliances.

9) Conduct a Routine Check-up of Electric Circuits
Majority of the houses might not have a good electric wiring architecture and most of the times, a lot of power is waster due to ill planned electric wiring. Such issues can be avoided if you conduct a routine check -p of your electric circuits and if you are able to fix anything, then you will indeed be going to save a lot in your electricity bill next time.

10) Reduce the time you spend at home
It is always a better idea if you spend most of the time outside your house during the summer as it will reduce the regular power consumption at home. You can take your family out and visit a mall, your friends house, relative’s house or even any of the nearby spiritual destinations where you will not face any type of expenses. Make sure that you do not buy anything expensive while visiting the malls, as it will indeed be an irony to your real purpose.

Hope that the above points are simple and easy to implement and believe me that you will easily be able to cut down on your electricity bills as never before. Even if you try half of the above points, you can see a tangible difference in your electricity bills. Have a great summer!!

Very practical ways to cut your electric bill. We have trees and use CFU bulbs. We also close the blinds on the sunny side of the house. It does make a difference!

Good tips. Deborah Diane's tip is also a good one. Operating washing machines at night can also help cut costs when it is not the peak electrical usage time.

Yes Peggy, Deborah is right and we also use washing machines during the night time when the overall electricity consumption is low.
