I’d say that most of us could stand to make an extra $1000 a month. I know I could, so I’ve investigated 11 ways to make and extra $1000 while maintaining my current income streams. These are by no means quick money schemes. They require time, thought, and effort.

Become a Photographer

Photography is a big money business. Just think of how many businesses and people purchase images for the their websites in the US alone. If you are a hubber, you know what I mean. Good images make your articles and/or website pop. Selling photos has never been easier. There are a number of content sites which sell the members photos. These may not pay a lot, but at $0.50/ea 2000 photo sales a month earns $1000.

Lawn Care Business

I’ve explained this in my hub Earning Extra Income. Mowing lawns is a big money industry. If you mow your own grass, you already have the equipment so why not put it to good use. 25 lawns at $40 each is one way to make $1000 a month.

Sell Prodcuts Online

The simplest of things make money online. For example I have a neighbor that makes a living selling T-shirt yarn online. She has a machine that cuts old T-shirts into thin strips and balls them like yarn. She can turn a $0.25 yard sale T-shirt into $5.00 in about ten minutes. 200 T-shirts equals $1000. Sometimes it’s the little things that turn into big bucks.

Sell Produce

Sounds odd doesn’t it. A buddy of mine buys produce from a wholesaler and sells it from the back of his truck on the weekend. He buys what’s in season and turns it for a decent price. He easily makes $250-$300/weekend. If you are a gardener, you could sell your produce and turn even higher profits!

Offer Services on Fiverr

Fiverr.com is an awesome way to make a buck or five. You can offer any legal service on Fiverr for $5. I buy headers and banners through this service all the time for $5. It saves me a lot of time and effort. If you offer your services, you receive $4 of every $5 service you render. 250 projects earns you $1000.

Sell Dog Houses

Let me explain. One year my father decided that we needed extra money so he decided to start making decorative dog houses. He put them at the end of the driveway with price tags on them. Pretty soon he was taking orders for dog houses. Next he expanded to wishing wells and planter boxes. It didn’t take long and he was doing this full time. If you like crafting, there are a number of ways you can promote your crafts. You can sell at flee-markets, online, by word of mouth, or craft shows. There are a lot of folks out there making $1000 a month selling hobby items.

Substitute Teaching

Subbing is a great way to make money. Most schools pay $60-$70/day. Check out my hub Substitute Teaching For Extra Income for more information.

Become a Guide

Most people relate guiding to hunting and fishing, but there are many types of guiding. A local realtor specializes in guiding groups of women on camping tours of the local National Forest. She makes extremely good money doing this on the weekends. A friend of mine does eco tours in Florida, another guides photographers on wildlife trips. Put your expertise to work and become a guide, the subject matter is up to you.

House Sit

I thought that this was strange at first. I couldn’t imagine someone living in my home while I was away, but people do pay house sitters. Basically you are paid to keep someone’s property safe while enjoying the amenities of their home. Sounds rough doesn’t it.

Baby Sit

Break out those old babysitting skills. In some areas you have to be licensed, but it could be worth the effort. I especially like the concept of overnight sitting in your home. My wife and I have done this for working parents. They drop of their child after school or dinner and we keep the child for the night while mom or dad is at work. We get them up and ready for school in the morning and off they go. Two children per night at $25 each will earn $1000/month.
