Anyone else getting these Scam Calls?: Department of Law & Investigation

Updated on March 16, 2011

The 419 Scam was a few years ago.

Been Happening For Months

I get a call from some random foreign person almost on a daily basis, I blame these calls beginning the day they lifted the locks on letting any public service having your number. I get normal sales calls all the time, but more specifically I am getting annoying scam calls. Its obvious ever time they call because its usually from an area code I don't recognize and then when I answer it is some person that has a strong foreign accent of African or Indian nature. The funny thing is they always make up some random America name like "Ken Smith", and they always try to sound like they have a southern accent to try to be more american. Its easy to see through their lies because once they start talking about why they are calling, you know it's a lie. I got a call from these scammers this morning and this time they told me that I have an affidavit from some credit card company I never even heard of against me. Funny thing is I do not own a credit card.

Even better I got another call from what sounded like the exact same person yesterday. This one actually made me laugh my ass off. Scammers told me that they were calling from the immigration office and they were suing me because I was an illegal immigrant. (Ha Ha Ha) I am a full pledged American citizen family born and raised here since the days of the Irish slavery. Although in some sense this is humorous to think that they can fool us into getting our information. Sadly they have gotten a hold of mine and I am sure others information without my consent. Once I decided to listen closely to what they had to say, they always end up transfering you to a supervisor of some sort. The supervisor speaks a little better english but still with an accent. Without telling them anything they told me my social security number and my email address, I was furious. After they hung up I realized they must have stolen it somehow from online, when I thought more on it I remembered they kept talking about payday loans and the Department of Law & Investigation. No such department exists. However I had nearly a year ago gone online to find a payday loan but ultimately refused it after seeing the outrageous interest. My guess can only be that these scams are tied into the payday loan systems.

I am seriously worried about this and the effect it is causing not only me but others out there like me. They have my social security number and recently I discovered that the credit bureaus have my social security number on a freeze due to fraudulent activity. This is an annoying process for me to get that removed and to get proper authorities involved in the situation. Especially because I have no way of tracking them and they change their names and number each time. However I was hoping we can all work together and post on here all the phone numbers we get from these scam artists, as well as their names and a brief description of the nature of the call. Please help me and others to get rid of this problem!
