There are many types of college scholarships and most people think about the most popular such as academic and athletic. There are music, competition, and ethnic scholarships as well. There are a lot of students who want to attend college, but these students don't know what funds are available to them. There are scholarships awarded because of special circumstances - you just have to look for them. Have you ever heard of occupational scholarships? That's another Hub.

There are students who have lost a parent or maybe even lost both parents. There are scholarships for you. I've known of students who when they lost a parent decided to drop out of college to assist their family financially by getting a job. You don't have to do this because there are college scholarships for kids with a deceased parent. Parents want their children to be successful and if it were your parent or parents' dream for you to graduate from college, then let that dream for you be the driving force for you to graduate from college.

  • If you write an essay or produce a video about how losing a parent has affected your life, this scholarship is for you. Make sure when telling your story to reiterate the effect of the loss of income has had on your family. Explain that the scholarship would help you to accomplish your goal of obtaining a degree, and how, you believe, that by having a college degree will assist you in becoming a participative citizen - a citizen that can be productive in society.

This type of loss is something most people don't think about, but it happens. Over the years, we've heard reported by the news media that there have been shootings by disgruntled workers.

Dear Amjad, as far as I know there are lots of organizations which offer assistance to families with a deceased parent, but what I have written about is for college students. I am sorry for the loss of your wife. You will have to research information on organizations that can help with medical and education for your young children. All the best to you.

Dear Sir/Madam,

This is Amjad. Currently, I am living in Peshawar, Pakistan. My kids (najid (m) & aroob (f) 5 years, nijad (m) 2 ½ years and their twin sisters 2 ½ months) lost their mother 2 ½ months before. Being their father, I’m having difficulties with their education and health expenses. Also, I have to fight a case registered against the doctors of shifa international hospital at Islamabad for death of my wife due to their negligence. Is there any relevant organization that can help me with any of the mentioned matters?

All the best,

Steven, you'll have to visit the websites I gave and see if overdoses, accidents, or suicides of a parent are included. Children should not be penalized for how they lost a parent. Thanks for the question.

steven 4 years ago

what about parents that died in accidents or overdoses or suicides!!

Voted up and useful. I wish this had been around (or known of) when I was a kid. I went to work first and studied while working. Although it worked out well, it cost a lot and would have been far faster in a normal program.

Thanks for SHARING.
