Credit Card Swiper and Reader for iPhone, iPad, Blackberry, Android and more

Updated on April 24, 2012

One of the hottest trends this 2011 is the launching of new credit card swipers and readers for cell phones and handy devices like the iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, Blackberry and Android. Mobile credit card processing has never been so hip and easy. Having that little swiper, you can accept credit card payments anytime and anywhere you are using the Square --that’s the new little amazing credit card swipe machine used for the iphone, iPad and Android users. It works with other devices with the Apple and Google Android platforms, too. On the other hand, Blackberry users use RoamPay credit card swipers for now. Other companies are also into developing their own swipe technologies like the Verifone and Mophie, the popular manufacturer of mobile accessories. Business always goes with the latest trends.

Like I said, you can accept credit card payments by just using your mobile phone with the credit card reader wherever, whenever and whoever you are – an artist who met someone down the road who liked your latest masterpiece, a plumber who fixed an asap task, a photographer, a wedding planner, a limo driver, a musician, a flower vendor, a tutor, a writer, a freelance designer, or even a CEO of a multimillion company. Who says you’ll need a check or cash or a freaking old credit card machine. Nowadays, we can do almost everything with just an iphone.

The Square Credit Card Swiper

The Square was created by the creator of Twitter, Jack Dorsey. It’s called the Square because obviously it’s a tiny square gizmo that plugs into the headphone jack of the iphone or ipod touch. It’s like the size of a quarter, so small but so techy that it can read the magnetic stripe of a credit card or debit card. Its system has the ability to capture a customer’s signature digitally and returns a receipt. Unlike any other credit card swiper and reader, the Square may be the cheapest and splendid to use. It accepts all credit cards, and it comes with no hidden fees and commitments ever like those from the other merchants. This is because Square does not require a contract upon sign up. There’s a corresponding fixed fee on every swiped and keyed-in transaction. Means no transaction, no charge. And oh there are no activation, gateway, monthly, early termination and additional fees using this credit card reader. Simply no hassle!

Using the Square, you have to download the Square app appropriate for your phone. Once you have signed up and been accepted after meeting all the requirements, you can start swiping credit cards and can use your mobile phone and compatible device as a credit card machine. By the way, they only accept US based users at this time. It’s only been launched. To experience more of the Square credit card swiper, I’ve uploaded a video on the right.

RoamPay Credit Card Swiper

QuickPay Merchant Services released the RoamPay, a credit card reader with features similar to the Square though it's not square shaped. It has the capabilities almost the same with the Square. It works with the Blackberry, Droids, iphone and ipad, too. Having a QuickPay account and installing the RoamPay app will let you enjoy the benefits of having a virtual cash register. This credit card swiper accepts Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express. With the real-time authorization, all your transactions are secure as you log and check transaction history and reports on your phone or online.

PAYware Mobile Credit Card Reader

Verifone, a global manufacturer of electronic payment systems, also released their mobile credit card reader called PAYware Mobile. It’s an iphone sleeve not a little plug-in stuff like the Square. This is amazing coz it’s expanding internationally. This credit card device works with the iphone 3G and higher. It also accepts all types of credit cards and debit cards, easy to set up, secure and cost effective.

Mophie Marketplace Credit Card Reader

Mophie, an award-winning designer and manufacturer of mobile intelligent devices and accessories, more popular as a fabulous iphone case maker, has introduced their solutions for mobile credit card payment processing, the Marketplace. Mophie credit card reader works with Intuit GoPayment for iPhone. The hardware is compatible only with iPhone 3G, 3GS and 4. It also does same transaction features, secure and convenient. Mophie credit card reader alone costs $179.95 excluding the monthly service fees, swiped, keyed-in and transaction fees.

Those were amazing credit card swipers! So convenient for both businessmen and customers. If they clicked, expect for more other brands of credit card readers. Thanks for reading my hub. It’s free to leave a comment. Won’t swipe your card. :)
