How I started my first Zazzle store
I don't remember exactly how I got to know Zazzle, but I heard it had good and funny products and you could make your own products. Later I discovered the stores and how you can make money with it.
In the beginning I did not feel as a designer or an artist to start the creative process and show it, but I always liked the thinking of the creative process and to create new designs, for the fun and to create something new and unique. Zazzle seemed a great opportunity to make something I liked into something useful.
My first store on Zazzle was based on a blog, a blog that I created but I do not post so frequently, based on Travel and specially on Europe.
First steps on Zazzle
The first step is obvious, opening the Zazzle website and see the front-page. You start by seeing lots of different objects with a great variety of images. From watches to gift wrap, the options are so wide you probably can't create a design for every product they have.
After taking a look at the website, you probably have some ideas of what you can do, and what you like but you did not see, so it is time to create an account
Creating an account in Zazzle
It is very simple to create you own account, you just need to provide your e-mail and choose a password. You also have to be older than 13 years old.
After that you are ready to start you own account on Zazzle.

Opening a Store
When opening a store, you have to give a name to the store, and that can be the start of a great brainstorming, what do you want your store to be about?
- Your unique designs;
- Your drawings;
- Your animals;
- Your own business cards;
- Your face;
- Photos you took while travelling;
- Motivational phrases.
It can make sense to put your name, or artist name if you want to use it as a "trademark". However if you want to do something different and specific you can use something like the user "VintagePrints1900"(ref).
My first store - Eurovel
I decided to create Eurovel to share designs about my trips in Europe and about touristic places in Europe. It is one of my preferred themes and interests, so I decided to give it a try.
The link is Eurovel
As you can see, I divided the products in different categories, in my case by country, I found that it was the best way to organize.If you are thinking about creating a store, think how you want to organize it, since if there are buyers for your products they will find them easier if the products are well organized and promoted.
After deciding what most interests you, you can always choose the products by department, making it easier to find something you are interested. For example, there is an own department for clothes, so you can take a look at all the clothes available and not wasting time with the other products.
My first pictures
When you start to set up your Zazzle store, you have to start by doing something. You are not expected to be a ProSeller with your first products but they can be your inspiration.
My first pictures were chosen since decided I wanted to do something related with travelling in Europe, so the first choices were obvious, the most famous monuments that I have visited.
Here are some of the pictures I used to create my unique designs. All of them are original that I took, they may be not as good as if it was a professional, but the advantage is that you want to create something unique, not something you can see anywhere.
If you don't travel a lot or you don't own a camera, don't worry, there are plenty of other choices. You can create your own designs in paint or Photoshop, or use pictures that are available to modify.

Why I decided to create Flag Maps
Since I was doing something related with several countries in Europe, I decided to try to sell designs about the flag and border of each country. These designs of map flags were my starters along with the pictures I took.
Flag maps also made easier to categorize the products and to give a special touch to some products.
Brief Analysis to Zazzle Best Sellers
In Zazzle homepage you can see the best sellers in Zazzle, from products to designs, this is a brief analysis to their best sellers.
"Hot Products at 12/07/2013 (US) or 07/12/2013 (UK)"
This is a Christmas period, so the results are probably biased by the upcoming holiday.
- Wrapped Canvas
The wrapped canvas is a seasonal product.
Cases are sold mainly when a new phone is out, so be prepared if the new iPhone or iPad comes out, you should create new products in order to sell to the first buyers.
There are also the trendy products, which are harder to guess which ones they will be. Sometimes you can see a lot of vintage products or images with funny phrases.
The best sellers at December, 9th were,
- Custom Baby Pacifier
- Dinner Plate
- Reusable Water Bottle
- Holiday Stamps
- Business Card
Knowing which products are best sellers can help you increase your sales, never forget to create your unique designs in the most sold products.
I also looked for other websites, similar to Zazzle, but Zazzle stills is my first choice due to two main reasons,
- Zazzle seems to have the widest audience in personalized products.
- The wider variety of products and designs to sell.
If you are a starter and you do not have many experience, Zazzle also seems the right choice for you.
