It would nice to get accepted there but nobody I know has made it yet. I still haven't even tried myself. I have so many projects going on I could not devote the time that it would require.

$ 600 is much for me. Unfortunately, about.com just accept one man for one niche topic

pgrundy 7 years ago

I tried to get in there once, over a year ago. Didn't make it. Every so often I check out their topics but I haven't seen one in awhile I was interested in. If you get in though, it's a good gig. Thanks for the hub! :)

great hub. It's like an invitation to join the organization. I wish I cold be selected there.

oderog profile image

oderog 7 years ago from Nairobi Author

@Camping Dan - You can make it a try, but for professional

and writers can easily make it there

@forlan - That's the tricky part, one nince topic, therefore

you have to know much about your niche to be accepted

@pgrundy - Yes joining About.com seem to be the most difficult thing but once you make it then you can do well, there is always another time, you can apply later

@Clara Ghomes - Try your best at about and you could be selected

The problem is, they have a restricted list of topics, and quite often they want people with qualifications in the field.

oderog profile image

oderog 6 years ago from Nairobi Author

Marisa Wright you are right actually at about you will go through some serious training before get involved with them

Research Analyst profile image

Research Analyst 6 years ago

They require experts who are very familiar in the topics they write about, plus about.com has a list of specific subjects that they want covered, most those who apply have several years experience as well as college degrees, certifications and prior reference work on other sites and publications.

oderog profile image

oderog 6 years ago from Nairobi Author

You are right, at About.com you have to be an experienced writer for you to get accepted, and one has to go for about 4 weeks training during which you can be rejected or accepted

Marisa Wright profile image

Marisa Wright 6 years ago from Sydney

Oderog I think you're missing the point Research Analyst and I are making - if you check each of the available topics on About.com, you'll see most of them require you to have an academic qualification in the subject, or be a journalist, before they will even look at you.

I think that would be worth mentioning in your Hub so people don't waste their time applying without the right qualifications.

Thanks Marisa Wright for pointing out this, I highly appreciate and hope others will take note

I applied to about.com many months back and never heard back from them which was disappointing. For those that get accepted it's definitely a nice way to earn a regular income from writing.

Hi Susan S about needs professional as noted by Marisa Wright otherwise you do not stand a chance to make money or get approved

Hey oderog, do they accept international users too?

It would be nice to be accepted, but their checklist counted me out. It does sound like a great opportunity, so well done to those who make it.
