Most enthusiasts of gold and silver in the USA and Europe know the gold and silver price by the troy ounce, perhaps even per gram however there is a huge chunk of the world ( well over 2 billion people) that use a completely different system for weighing gold and silver.

Tola

In the Indian subcontinent the Tola has been used for thousands of years and despite lengthy British rule the told is still widely used to measure gold or silver.

A tola contains 3/8ths of a troy ounce of gold so to calculate the price of a tola of gold simply multiply the current price of gold by 3/8.

For example gold today is 1730 an ounce.

3/8 x 1730 = $648.75

Tael

Tael is used in China and Hong Kong to measure both gold and silver. Tael is also recognized in many other Asian countries.

A tael contains 1.20308 troy ounces of gold so to calculate the current price of one tael of gold simply multiply the current price of gold by 1.20308.

For example

Gold price live today is 1730 an ounce

1730*1.20308 = $2081.32

Luong

Luong is the unit by which gold and silver are measured in Vietnam. It is very similar to a tael but not quite the same measurement. One luong contains 1.20565 troy ounces of gold - so to find out the current price of one luong of gold simply multiply the current price of gold by 1.20565.

For example Gold today is 1730

One luong = 1730 * 1.20565= $2085

Tolas, Tael and Luong in Grams

To convert Tolas, Tael and Luong into grams simply multiply by 31.10347

1 Tola = 11.66 grams

1 Tael = 37.42 grams

1 Luong = 37.5 grams
