Restaurant birthday clubs are a fun way to celebrate your birthday at your favorite restaurants

You know the old adage, "There's no such thing as a free lunch..." well, I have proven it wrong. And not only is there such thing as a free lunch, you can also get free appetizers, free breakfast, free dinner and free dessert -- so much stuff for free! The best way I have found to get free food is to join restaurant birthday clubs. It seems a lot of restaurants want you to celebrate your special day with them and they are willing to give you free food (or a pretty substantial discount) once a year. I guess they figure you won't eat alone and your friends will have to pay for their meals, but so what, you get free food.

Tips for getting free food by joining a restaurant birthday club

  • You usually have to be 18 years old or older to join a birthday club.
  • If you are going to join a lot of restaurant birthday clubs then you may want to create a separate email account just for that purpose. Just be sure to check it periodically so you don't miss any good offers for free food, especially during the month of your birthday.
  • Do not sign up for a restaurant birthday club during the month of your birthday. Many clubs will give you stuff for free just for joining and then again for your birthday. Many times these offers expire in 14 days to a month. So if you want the offers spread out then join a different month of the year.
  • Many of the birthday clubs will also let you add family members under the same e-mail address so be sure to do so, so they can get stuff for free too.

The following is a list of restaurants that offer email clubs, including birthday clubs, with free food coupons or really good deals on food. If you're interested in any of them be sure to verify the details first, as the details of these offers probably will change over time.

Here are some free food coupons I got this year from restaurant birthday clubs.

Free food for my 2011 birthday included: Buy one get one scoop of ice cream free from Baskin Robbins; a free regular sub and 22 oz. drink from Jersey Mike's subs; and a free breakfast sandwich with a drink purchase from Einstein Bros. Bagels.

Free lunch or dinner (or food item)

  • Chili's - join Email Club and get free order of chips & queso
  • Lone Star Steakhouse - join E-Club and get a gift for joining and a gift on your birthday
  • Moe's Southwest Grill - join Moe's e-World and in their words, "get a little somethin' somethin'" for signing up and for your birthday
  • Red Lobster - join Fresh Catch Club and get a birthday surprise
  • Ruby Tuesday - join So Connected club in order to join their birthday club - not sure what the gift is
  • Panda Express - Look for poster in restaurant that says, "show proof it's your birthday and get a free 2-entree meal"
  • Red Robin - join and get a free gift for signing up and a free burger on your birthday

Free desserts

  • Baskin Robbins - join Birthday Club and get a free scoop of icecream with purchase of another on your birthday and on your 1/2 birthday too
  • Cold Stone Creamery - join My Coldstone Club and get 2 creations for the price of 1 for joining and a buy one get one creation coupon for your birthday
  • Dairy Queen - join the Blizzard Fan Club and get 2 blizzard treats for the price of 1
  • TGI Fridays - join their Give Me More Stripes recognition program and get a free dessert during your birthday month with the purchase of an entrée.

Many restaurants offer free desserts on your birthday without joining a birthday club. The price is usually having to listen to the restaurant staff sing you a song. You be the judge if it's worth it. But many of the big chain restaurants will give a free slice of cake, pie or dessert to the birthday boy or girl just for asking.

Dear KT,

Great list you put together here. A couple years ago, I got a free birthday dinner at LoneStar. It was awesome. And the service was great too!

Another thought is restaurant.com -- most people have heard of it but they have special codes that change every month. I got a "gift certificate" to one of my favorite local restaurants worth $25 and it only cost me $6. Two people and we had to spend $35. So two of us had this awesome dinner and overall, we saved $19. Thanks for the info.

Hi Sharyn. Thanks for your suggestions. I have to say, I did the restaurant.com thing once and when we went to use it the restaurant told us they were only valid if we spent more than what it said. I couldn't believe they could do that. Needless to say, I haven't been back to that local restaurant since. I have a feeling though that my experience may have been the exception and not the rule.

Hi,

I agree that your experience may be the exception. I have a friend that uses restaurant.com all the time and have never heard of that type of experience.

Just to let your readers know, if you do a search for "restaurant.com coupon code" - you can sometimes find a code that you add when you are ready to checkout and purchase the certificate. You can actually get certificates worth $25 for only $2. I just checked today and there is no new code yet since it is August 1. But I believe we'll see one soon. One of the last discount codes was SWEET and it expired on 7-24-11. I love the opportunity to go to restaurants that I would otherwise, never be able to afford. You do, though, have to read the fine print. Some make you spend $35 and others $50. And you can only use one certificate per table. But overall, I've found some great deals. Take care,

Sharyn

I think I am going to give it a try again and I'm glad to know my experience was an exception. I thought it seemed really strange. Thanks! Plus my birthday month is coming up soon so I will be getting emails from all the restaurant birthday clubs.

Very useful info. I have to check into a few of those restaurants that I eat at anyway and never realized they give these perks.

Well then I'm glad I brought this to your attention Glenn. It always is nice to get something for nothing, especially when you were going to get it anyway!

Saving money is fun, and I have never been good at couponing. But, I love signing up for restaurant email clubs or birthday clubs because (1) it is so easy, and (2)the email they send for the free food is usually pretty valuable. Thanks for sharing this with your friends.

I'll have to join these quickly, my birthday is coming up here in November. My sister's is at the end of this month so I will have her sign up right away. Totally awesome hub, for real! :P

Thanks Melanie. Many of the restaurants usually give you something just for signing up too. Most of those free deals for signing up seem to expire in 14 days, whereas, most of the free deals for the birthday expire in 30 days. I hope you and your sister have fun!
