The Iraqi Dinar Revaluation in 2014

The Iraqi Dinar is currently trading at around 1175.5 (bid) Dinars to one US dollar. The currency is managed and pegged to the US dollar at this amount. The Iraqi government occasionally makes adjustments to the rate, but they do not make those adjustments very often.

The Iraqi Dinar, prior to the US invasion, was near on par with the US dollar. Actually, some figures show that the Iraqi Dinar was 3 to 1 to the dollar, but that was apparently a subjective figure determined by Saddam and his party, so it is hard to pin down its true value. The Iraqi Dinar Value Chart to the right only goes back five years. In that time period, however, the Iraqi Dinar has accumulated value against the dollar.

The turmoil that ensued during and after the Gulf wars decimated the currency, and now it takes over 250,000 Dinar to buy a cheap refrigerator in Iraq. It takes over a thousand Dinar to buy a loaf of bread. The sanctions, unstable government, reparations, destruction of oil wells, the lack of external (much less internal) investment all contributed to the Dinar's demise.

Recently, however, Iraq is becoming more and more viable every day. Sanctions are being lifted, Iraq’s Parliament officially approved a second term for Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and his partial cabinet lineup, and Iraq recently enjoyed International participation in developing and redeveloping its oil wells and oil discovery projects.

As a side note, the United States did not garner very many contracts in this regard. Our oil and gas companies decided that the terms of the contracts were too restrictive and unprofitable. Those contracts are good for Iraq's economy, AND will not become a detriment to our own domestic oil and gas companies.

There were indeed security concerns in the past, and they still exist, but on a much smaller scale.

"There is a big misconception regarding security, yes there are problems but it is nothing compared to the past. In the past we had a huge security issue but now things have changed. I would say now there is a reduced security problem. We have a strong security force and incidents have all but finished. Corruption is another issue which media has not rightly covered. In the past, the government was weak, but now the government is strong, with transparency and accountability paramount, especially given the international coverage even the smallest issue on corruption is given." (

Iraq has been stated to have oil reserves that compete, or surpass (speculative), the largest oil reserve countries in the world, including Saudi Arabia, Canada, Iran, Venezuala, Russia, etc.

Iraqi Dinar Investment - How Can I Invest In Iraqi Dinars?

The IQD (New Iraqi Dinar) is not yet traded on the open foreign currency exchange market. That being said:

"Under the Order of the Coalition Provisional Government Order 39, a US citizen has the same rights to investments as an Iraqi citizen."

However, you'll probably have to go to a foreign exchange currency dealer to buy Iraqi Dinar. Furthermore, despite the claims that these sites typically make, they will probably not buy your Dinar back from you. If they do buy it back, they will probably buy it back at a deep discount.

If you find a specific bank that buys and sells New Iraqi Dinar, please leave a comment below with the Bank's phone number and/or address for others to read. Buying New Iraqi Dinar at a respectable bank avoids the 30% or more markup currency dealers charge, and it may be safer, not knowing to whom you are sending your cash. It is convenient, however, to buy New Iraqi Dinar from currency dealers, as some of them are able to allow the use of a credit card for purchase. If they allow credit cards, then the site is presumably one of the safer dealers.

Please do not succumb to the hype! Logical minds doubt there will be a revaluation to the US dollar on any scale other than a normal (slow) increase at which their currency recovers. This does not seem like a get rich quick phenomenon. The author does, strongly believe that the Iraqi Dinar will increase in value against the US dollar. However, the author does not believe it is going to happen overnight, and the author doubts it will make any of us instant millionaires.

The current speculation is that the currency will revalue in the beginning of 2012. However, the author would advise you to do your due deligence in researching this currency. It has been mentioned on Glen Beck's, Jim Cramer's, and CNBC's newscasts. The newscast done by CNBC is the most credible, whereas the other two individuals have huge credibility issues.

If you have some disposable income that you would ordinarily throw out the window of your vehicle while driving down the Interstate, buying New Iraqi Dinar would be a better use of your unneeded money. If you buy the IQD (New Iraqi Dinar), please note that you may not be able to sell it back, and you may lose your entire investment.

However, if you speculate that the United States will go through a period of hyper-inflation, this may be a good way to inflation proof your capital assets while the US economy (hopefully) stabilizes. If the value of the dollar drops (like most of the great economic minds are alluding to), the Iraqi Dinar is most likely going to gain in value (against the inflated dollar), as well as many other foreign currencies. Having a few gold coins, silver ingots, Euro, Yen, Yuan, Dong, and Dinar around will somewhat protect you, or cushion the blow, from any pending US dollar currency collapse.

In any investment, there is a risk you may lose your ENTIRE investment. However, you can adorn your walls with this currency, as it is very colorful. You can also have your children bring these currencies to class with them for show-and-tell, and share with them the rich history of Iraq and the various countries' currencies with which you invest.

Please leave a comment, and let us know your experiences with, and your knowledge of, the New Iraqi Dinar.

Hey, gang! I just finished reading the e-book by Marcus Curtis and Sam I am (Rod Saunders) entitled, Tales from the Gypped. Wow, was it enlightening. I experienced nostalgia, when they explained their journey and the blogs and forums they used to frequent (the same ones I did and probably most of y'all).

Alas, the dream is dead. I recouped most of my money back in 2014, thankfully.

While reading the book, I thought of my friends here. Hope everybody's doing great and life is treating you well.

I’m writing a paper on romoba vacuum cleaners and I found this article to be extremely useful and informative. Thank you.

we have hit another obstacle here now, tens of billions of counterfiet dinars were sold here in the US, the feds are on top of this. this should be very worrying to all those who have bought dinars here in the last 4 years or so. stay tune as this one unfolds

Hearing lots of rumors the Zimbabwe Dollar has revalued. There are artics circulating about how citizens are going to be compensated at something like $5 per every 35,000 Zim they lost years ago through banks. Not sure what it means for physical currency or the rate if anything at all.

Andrew..... Any news??

For anyone looking to dump your dinar but don't wanna take a ridiculously low price from a dealer, here's a good read on how to get the most for your dinar if you sell it on ebay and cut out the dealers and middlemen.

Jim Daley 2 years ago

I've noticed a lot of people lately looking to sell their dinars and either don't trust or don't want to go through dealers. Found an interesting article on how to sell your Dinar yourself.

Free Iraqi Dinar no purchase necessary. If anyone wants a free 1,000 dinar note there's a dealer doing a giveaway if you mention them on social media so here's my mention the seller is If anyone else is interested in the giveaway here's the link...

Did y'all see this:

Isis declares new currency will be circulated across Syria and Iraq

The militant group said it would reinstate an ancient Islamic dinar in a move to 'emancipate itself from the satanic global economic system'

andrew 2 years ago

hey all my good peeps...not my opinion but just what i just heard from high up...iraq is fighting hard and fast to get new currency...this could mean one of 2 things...they trying to flood the market in country and then the dinars we have will become no longer that point we can and probably will lose all our investment with the flash of a pen...

we underate and take for granted these iraq leaders, they are not stupid,,,that have world class brains...nuff said but that could be very well be the plan

it wont be as easy as 1 2 3 but the rate on the bloonburg site is real,,,

best of luck and we may some money on this just maybe

Andrew are you still around? I joined so I could comment on your posts. I have quite a bit of Zim and was wondering myself how to exchange it in Canada. I checked your link about a week ago and thought something was wrong. Then I thought maybe it RV'd. Is that site reliable?

Tim Brown 2 years ago

I'm not really sure what to think about the Zim however I see a lot of interest so figured I'd pick up a little bit. You can get it on ebay or Amazon. I found one dealer who has it, not listed on their site, they said they have a limited supply but generally have some in stock. BuyIraqiDinarHere.Com I got a couple 100 Trillion notes but they have various denoms. I also bought some a while back from an amazon seller I was happy with but don't recall the name.

andrew 2 years ago

well, no body answered me,,,this one is in the bag but i guess not to many have the zim,,,always the case eh

the million dollar question now is how to exchange the zim and if the notes we are holding are exchangable...

Hey guys! This hub has been awfully quiet for sometime now, understandably. Nothing really exciting has happened since Iraq got out of chapter 7, until now. Maliki's gone. He's been pushed out. This isn't from a guru, it's from mainstream news.

In order to have real currency reform Iraq's three states need to be united. Apparently Maliki was a vengeful Prime Minister.. And when you think about it, it's easy to understand. Their history says it all.... I'm glad I'm a Canadian....but getting back on point, we have a new PM in Iraq. That's big. Hopefully he's an honest man and will truly try and unite Iraq. If that happens ISIS will be stomped.

So again to all of you who still have dinar, let's see what happens.

Craig - The dinar is pegged to the dollar, so if the dollar goes up or down in value the dinar moves with it. No hedge.

craig janes 2 years ago

im not really sure what to think about the dinar though i am trying to hedge against the dollar buying various currencies and silvers. currencies mainly a bit of euros, pounds, australian, indian rupi andmost recently dinar. i ordered from buyiraqidinarhere and was fairly easy, that was the only site i could find where i could pay by credit card and i paid $999 which seemed like about the going rate. only annoying thing wanted 1.25 million and they would only sell me a million in a day aside from that got it next day and was very easy. i think im going to put my rest of my money into silver

lots of politics and dirty moves going on here...

If Iraq wanted to revalue their currency Iraq would do it. They've already raised the value dozens of times since the IQD was introduced. Nobody stopped them, and nobody is stopping them now. The simple truth is Iraq doesn't want to revalue their currency because it would hurt their economy. They want a stable exchange rate, so they work hard to maintain one. That's why it's not moving.

andrew 2 years ago

seems what i brought to you from the oval office last time up is the truth...we might not have a rv cor a long time to come...the imf wants an rv, the goi wants a rv, iraq wants an rv....but M doesn't want an rv and that person is doing whatever it takes to not see a new 5 million millionaires...and no its not know who he or she is right...

The Iraqi Journal Team

Sterling 2 years ago

Hey peeps! Andrew sorry man, I'm not sure what's going to happen tax wise in Canada.

Here's an article from the Iraqi journal.

The Central Bank of Iraq (CBI) has been attempting to delete three zeros from the Iraqi currency since 2003. This project has raised many concerns among the Iraqi public and within the business community, and Iraqi economists are divided. While some support the project and consider it a chance to decrease inflation and unemployment, others warn of economic shocks that may prevail over the Iraqi market as a result of the project’s implementation.

Following amendments made by the CBI, implementation of the project has been postponed several times. This is because of fears that are mostly related to the lack of security, the presence of a market open to foreign commodities without any restrictions, the prevalence of counterfeit money in the market and rampant corruption in the country.

The independent Iraqi News Agency (INA) quoted Abdul Hussein al-Yasiri, a member of the Iraqi parliamentary Finance Committee, as saying that 2014 will witness the deletion of zeros from the Iraqi currency. He noted that the deletion will occur in coordination with the CBI, and that as a result of the project, the number of banknotes in circulation will be reduced from 4 billion to 1 billion.

Haider al-Abadi, the head of the Iraqi parliamentary Finance Committee, told Al-Monitor that while deleting zeros from the current currency is possible, this has been postponed until after parliamentary elections. He noted that studies are being carried out to ensure that, following the currency change, counterfeiting is limited and that Iraqis don’t go back to trading in the old currency.

The step to delete zeros from the currency has been postponed several times, leading the parliamentary Economic Committee to demand that the CBI accelerate this project, as Al-Sharqiya reported. In a news conference held July 6, the Economic Committee confirmed that the deletion of zeros will lead to an increase in the value of the Iraqi dinar and will have positive repercussions, including a reduction in unemployment and poverty rates in the country.

An IMF mission led by Carlo Sdralevich, Mission Chief for Iraq, visited Amman during the period March19-24 to meet with an official Iraqi delegation led by Acting Minister of Finance, Dr. Safa Al Safi. The mission also met with the Acting Governor of the Central Bank, Dr. Abdul Basit Al Turki Said, and officials from the ministries of finance, planning, and oil, the central Bank, and the Board of Supreme Audit. The IMF team also consulted with representatives of Iraqi private sector and diplomatic community in Amman. The mission reviewed recent macroeconomic developments and the current fiscal and monetary issues. This work will help prepare the 2014 Article IV consultation with Iraq later in the year.

At the conclusion of the mission, Mr. Sdralevich made the following statement from Amman:

“Iraq maintained macroeconomic stability in 2013, despite lower than projected oil production and exports. Growth remained solid at 4.2 percent, thanks to non-oil activity of about 7 percent, driven by construction and retail trade. Inflation declined slightly to 3.1 percent from 3.6 percent in 2012, reflecting stable world food and fuel prices. The exchange rate remained stable, and international reserves grew by $7 billion to $78 billion at end-2013 (about 10 months of imports of goods and services).

“Economic activity is projected to strengthen in 2014, with GDP growth rising to over 6 percent thanks to oil production of 3.2 million barrels per day (mbpd) and oil exports of 2.6 mbpd, even though non-oil activity is affected by the security situation.

“However, in 2013, lower than expected oil revenues and increased spending pressures—largely arising from the difficult security situation—weighed on the overall fiscal performance. As a result, the budget deficit rose to 6 percent of GDP for 2013, financed though the Development Fund for Iraq, which declined from over $18 billion to $6.5 in the course of the year.

“The draft 2014 budget envisages large spending outlays reflecting new commitments for security, social assistance and pensions, and transfers to the provinces. To preserve macroeconomic stability, planned expenditure commitments should be scaled down, while preserving key social spending. In the longer run, Iraq should strive to manage well its large, and rising, oil revenues by containing current spending and building up fiscal and external buffers.

“In this connection, we also underlined the importance of strengthening public financial management, including budgetary processes, classification, and reporting, and introducing an integrated information system, to help prepare and execute sustainable fiscal policies.

“We also discussed progress in the financial sector reform agenda. The Central Bank of Iraq is pressing ahead with the improvement of its operations and the reform of the financial sector by preparing new central bank, commercial bank, and anti-money laundering/combating the financing of terrorism legislation, and introducing a new payment system. However, more needs to be done by the government and the central bank to restructure the large state-owned banks, and leveling the playing field for private banking sector, gradually increasing their access to government business.

“The exchange rate—supported by ample international reserves of the central bank—provides a key nominal anchor to the economy and has served Iraq well. We encouraged the Central Bank of Iraq to renew its efforts to liberalize gradually the foreign exchange market, further reducing the spread between the auction and parallel market rates.

“We would like to thank the acting minister of finance, the acting governor of the Central Bank of Iraq, and their staff for the productive and candid discussions we had during the mission.”

I have been waiting for the Iraqi dinar currency to re-evaluate going three years and everyday I hear someone say not today but its going to happen. I purchased my currency in 2011 and now its 2014. I hate a liar. I see a lot of articles saying the currency will never re-evaluate that we were made fools. that the dinar has no value in the banks in the united states if this true why is the United States government allowing the amercian people to be scammed out there hard earned money. I am tired of hearing not today but tomorrow. It going to happen my cousin died waiting wwhat a shame.

Hey, Andrew! Yep, we sold most of it but kept some back. Wouldn't make us rich enough to quit our jobs, if the RV were to truly occur, but it would help pay the bills. If it turns out to be expensive toiler paper, then it's not much of a loss .... It's a win-win in our mind.

andrew 2 years ago

hey all, where u at...its all so quiet and tense right now,,,i feel the same here, everything is lining up but nothing happening...hey Sterling , i was just in toronto,,i open accounts with TD and TBC bank there...would i be allowed to deposit in canada account,,,would the tax man fund me...

Hi guys

Like I've said before, when Iraq finally gets around to doing major currency reform and cleaning up these notes, we'll know if this was worth it.

Lol, Elizabeth who'd you hear that one from? Okie?? No, I've heard nothing.

Rich 3 years ago

I like Sterlings attitude. I'm hangin' on til I can use it for wallpaper. never say die!

Elizabeth 3 years ago

Hey Sterling! Some are saying rates are showing in Canada? Any truth to that?

You still here M&M? Ck?

Hey, y'all, this does not mean I won't check in!

We will still have some IQD. Just not enough to get rich, if the optimistic prognostications were to become true. I hope I'm wrong for y'alls sakes and Dublin is in our future.

I can sleep easy with this decision no matter how it ends.

tim 3 years ago

here is link to help you decide whether to sell your dinar. some excellent information.

best of luck.

Elizabeth 3 years ago

Yay, Sterling & Andrew for President & Vice President. Hehe! I say, hang in there. Why not. Like Sterling said, it was practically worthless when we got it. God Bless & be good!

andrew 3 years ago

bethat,,, best of luck and god bless.....its ok to be practical but fortune always favor the brave

Sam we'll know if we've been duped when Iraq goes through major currency reform as they've been talking about for years now. So hold your horses before going ahead and saying we've been "duped".

Sam I Am 3 years ago

BThatGirl - That's great news! I'm also logical and practical and it took me awhile to figure out that I'd been duped, too. At least now you are free to decide based on facts and not hype and lies. Best of luck to you.

I appreciate y'alls input.

My husband is a logical, practical man, so I knew eventually the same ole empty promises of "any day now" would wear thin on him. We can use the money to pay off some debt. We decided to go that route and keep a nominal amount, just in case.

I think my biggest fear is the IQD will be totally worthless. The continued unrest in Iraq compels me to think it will be.

Had we done our homework before buying, we would not have embarked in this venture. Currency investing just ain't our thing....

Tim, it's already worthless! Lol !

I'm long and strong.

BThatGirl you should keep a little bit just for Sh*tz and Giggles.

andrew 3 years ago

bthat, u don't sound desperate yet but there has to ge a reason hubby what's out,,,my advice is u have nothing to lose and lots to gain,,,u haven't had a return on it so many years, does it really matter at this point...

patience is virtue and success is a career,,,what more can i say, just hang in there and hope for the best;;;the devil may just be in ur neighborhood..

tim 3 years ago

sell it all before it becomes worthless. there will never be an rv. the imf has called it a fraud!! (see dinar douchebag)

Jackson 3 years ago

Man you guys are persistent! I still have mine in the safe. Haven't looked at them or checked the pages in months. Wifey asked about them this week and I decided to get caught up again. Still the same old same old I see. Would be nice to see an RV, but with my luck Nobama would confiscate them.

Frustrated 3 years ago

Well girl, I'm in for the duration. Spent what I could afford to lose a couple years ago. Sure things have changed and I could use the money now, but I would have spent it elsewhere by now anyway. I say if your family is hungry and you need to put food on the table sell, hold just a little back, maybe 10%. If money is not super tight, stay in it with the rest of us dreamers. Maybe, just maybe, we'll all have that pint in Dublin someday. Whatever your decision, make it and don't look back. It is what it is. Pe@ce out girl.

Well, my friends I now am in a quandary. Hubby has agreed to turn in our IQDs. He left it up to me on if we should turn it all in or just most of it. I was thinking about holding back enough to pay off our house, if there was actually a RV.

andrew 3 years ago

sitting here in 6 inches of hard ice in good old south carolina...feels so funny...cant even order pizza ...

just was told this will be a non tax event,,,according to law,,,that's big,

andrew 3 years ago

its a dirty game but there was a recent compromise...this is all about one thing and one thing only,,,money my friend...this will happen soon and then maybe in another 150 years stay calm and await the next trick

Elizabeth 3 years ago

Andrew, don't you find that a bit scary! All our government officials are invested, it will cause a big vacuum in our government. Anyone?
