Money Doesn't Always Bring Happiness In Ones Life

MONEY AND HAPPINESS

I have learned over the last four years being sober, that all the money in the world still doesn't bring happiness to many people.

Money doesn't always bring happiness in ones life, and I can testify to that with some of the people I know that have lots of money. They have all the money in the world and can buy anything they wish paying cash, but they still are not truly happy with their lives.

There just seems to be something missing in their life. Can it be that their relationship is not the greatest?

Is there something deep down inside of them that has bothered them for many years and they are just afraid to bring it out in the open?

I just can't pinpoint it, but I know there is something wrong deep within. Although it is not my business whatsoever, I still feel sorry for those that can have anything, (material wise) but when it comes down to being truly happy, money CAN NOT buy that.

WE ALL NEED MONEY TO LIVE, BUT HOW MUCH IS ENOUGH

We all know that every person in the world needs money to live, but how much money will be enough to get by on?

Money is the root of all evil, as they say, and is a must in our everyday lives. There are so many people that have more money than they know what to do with and many times can not even spend the interest that their money earns each and every month. I am truly happy for those people and give them credit for what they have done to earn such a huge amount of money.

Although, many of those people may not be happy with the life they have even with tons of money in the bank. In that case, I feel sorry for them that they have no happiness in their lives. Then again, many people do make wrong financial decisions in their life which too will make you very unhappy. I was one of those people.

God forbid if you ever got very ill, it takes money and sometimes thousands upon thousands of dollars to get the best of the best in Medical care. Yes, you will have the best Surgeons, Doctors and Medical care money can buy, but not always these high cost Doctors and Institutions can save your life, not even with the money you have to pay them.

This goes to show you that money can not buy good health, nor will it buy happiness in your life. When you go out and but some expensive item and have the opportunity to pay for it in cash, you may be happy for a short time until the thrill wears off with that expensive item you had just bought.

The thrill is gone and now you look for something else that may make you happy for a short period of time again. Don't get me wrong folks, many people with a lot of money are truly happy. I am not saying people with lots of money are not happy, because I am sure there are many that are very happy with their life and how they live it. Really, God Bless them all.

DO YOU THINK MONEY BUYS HAPPINESS?

WHAT WILL TRULY MAKE YOU HAPPY?

I ask this question to the readers here, but I want to tell you what truly makes me happy.

Happiness is something that money can not buy, at least in my life. I have had money at some points in my life, but I was still missing something else and never could pinpoint it.

As many of you know here on Hubpages and throughout the world that have read my articles and hubs, is that I write mostly on alcohol addiction and how I became sober and ways that I suggest to others with an addiction to get and stay sober. If I can only help one person in the world to get sober and stay sober, that is my payday, and what would make me the happiest.

Getting back to my drinking days, there wasn't ever enough money for me. I was never satisfied with what I had. Alcohol made me believe that money can buy anything, and I have learned that money doesn't buy everything! You can rest assure that I am right.

  • I have great health, thank God, and have cleansed my body of all the toxins from drinking too much alcohol.
  • I have a loving, caring and wonderful wife.
  • I have beautiful, loving and caring children.
  • I have two beautiful Grandsons.
  • Although my parents are both deceased, I have a loving and beautiful Sister.
  • I have a job although it is Part time, but it is a job.
  • I have Health Insurance through my job.
  • I have food on the table everyday.
  • I have a roof over my head that is totally paid in full.
  • I have a family that stood by my side while I fault my demons.

So see, I truly have it all, except tons of money, and what I have stated above, money can not buy anyway.

ANOTHER SOURCE OF INCOME, BUT HAS TO BE PAID BACK

Credit cards when approved by the bank also make people very happy when they first get them. Many of those folks go out on a spending spree not worrying about what the monthly payment will be.

They are thrilled and happy because they have, so they think, some free money for the time being, but that free money needs to be paid back with in some cases huge interest added on to the card.

Don't get me wrong, credit cards can be a good thing for many of people, but then again it could be the ruination of many others.

I am sure you already know this, but if you charge something and pay that credit card bill on time each month, or pay the card in full each month that you have charged something on it, your credit score will continue to go up.

But just wait, if you charge on your card like there is no tomorrow you better not be late on that monthly payment. If so you will see your scores start to decline and be hit with $35.00 or more later fees, over the limit fees, and anything else that bank can charge you on.

In the meantime, all the fun you had buying anything you wish on the credit card will not be so fun when every penny of it has to be paid back and after interest is tacked on, that item you paid for and when interest added on may be almost double in cost adding interest to the original cost and making those minimum payments. It is really worth it? It is not a happy thing believe me. In fact, it will make some people sick or worrying themselves to sickness.

HERE IS SOMETHING ELSE THAT MAKES PEOPLE HAPPY WHEN APPROVED

THINKING YOU WILL WIN AND BE HAPPY

So many people that are not happy because they have no money, or if they have too much money try their luck at gambling in one form or another to try and fine some sort of happiness in their life, if only for a short time.

That is why they call it gambling, because you are taking a huge chance on losing what little or a lot of money you have. For those that have tons of money and are still not happy they hit the Casinos to try and double what they have. (I would lose everything if I were to do that.)

Those that have little or no money hope and pray that they hit it big, and their worries will be over. They will be living high and happy again even if for a short time.

Just a NOTE: I knew a girl that hit it big at a Casino and went back the following week thinking she could do the same thing she did before, and guess what, "she lost everything she won the week before and then some." See, it is never enough for so many people. We tend to be a bit greedy in so many ways.

I would say, "just mail your money to the Casino and save yourself the trip, but that is only my opinion."

TAKING THAT CHANCE ON TRYING TO GET LUCKY

HERE IS MY OPINION ON MONEY AND HAPPINESS

Everyone has their own opinion, and can state it as they please. That is what so great about the United States right?

So, if you think you will be happy by gambling your hard earned money away, then the best of luck to you. Some may win, but the majority will lose.

Some will be happy when they are approved by a credit card company and that is fine as long as you use that card responsibly and pay the bill on time, or pay it off each month you use it. In many case credit cards will be a benefit to you, and then as I said it could be disastrous to others, so please careful how you use that card.

I wasn't good at using my cards, so when I paid them off they were cut up and thrown in the trash. That was years ago, and to this day I own not a one.

DON'T GO IN DEBT THINKING YOU WILL BE HAPPIER WITH MONEY ON HAND. THAT MONEY SOONER OR LATER HAS TO BE PAID BACK TO THE FIRM YOU GOT IT FROM. FIND YOUR HAPPINESS WITHIN AND THAT COST NOTHING. ENJOY AND SPEND QUALITY TIME WITH YOUR FAMILIES AND FRIENDS AND THAT TOO DOESN'T COST A PENNY.

Money can't buy happiness - that is very true. But for the majority of us, I think having a bit of money is also critical. You need to be able to support yourself and family as an example. Perhaps you don't need a lot of money to be happy but I think you do need some, although different people will have different interpretations of what "some" means.

aud99- Thank you for reading and your comment. I am used to having no money and have learned to live without and believe it not I am much more happier with little money. It makes life interesting trying to make ends meet each month. I have all I need now living near the Ocean and that is worth all the money in the world to me.

You are right that money does not buy happiness but lack of it usually guarantees unhappiness due to the financial stress. I see many people excited to get an expensive car or go on an expensive vacation or buy a vacation home and that makes them excited and happy so in some cases it does buy happiness but it never guarantees it. I agree that credit cards can be risky and am in the process of paying them off and plan to never use them again. Great hub because it makes people think.

healthylife2- Thank you for your comment and kind words regarding this hub. I try to explain what I have gone through in hopes to help someone else not make the mistakes I did. Hopefully they will listen. Best of luck paying off those cards. Really I think we all can get by without them. You and I will be much better off . Thanks again!

This is very true. Money will never buy you the most important things in life although it can make your life easier. I actually like giving money away to those who deserve it and need it more than I do. You will find it much more rewarding to fill your spirit and your soul than your bank account! No way money can do that. Thank you for writing this article Mark.

Nocturnus - Thanks for reading and your comment. I am like you, I rather do without and give money to help others. That really makes me feel good inside that I have helped someone even though I may struggle by giving that money away.
