Money- Is It Good Or Evil?
Money- Good or Evil?
Let's look at money from a Christian's point of view. We must consider what money is and if it is proper for Christians to accumulate wealth. When we have more money than we need for normal expenses,we are wise to use save some for later use. As a person accumulates worldly goods to view money rather than God as a source of protection and stability. Those who desire wealth fall into temptation for love of money is the root of all evil. A young man asked Jesus what must one do to to inherit eternal life. Jesus said one must keep God's commandments. Everyone whether rice or poor, must rely on god's mercy for eternal life. It's easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to into the kingdom of God.
Sometimes the wealthy despise the poor and the poor despise the wealthy. Money tests our allegiance. Since money is a tool used for good and bad,God expects spiritual and humanitarian work of us. Being lazy or idle is not in step with God's expectations of our behavior. The Lord has commanded that those who preach the Gospel should live from the Gospel. Ten percent of your gross wages are to be given in what is called a tithe. Genesis 14 is the first mention of tithing. God intended for us to be our brother's keeper. (1John 3:17-18) says "My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth". If anyone doesn't provide for his own and especially for those of his household,he is denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.
We need to advise a financial plan to keep tract of where, how and why we spend our money. We need to make a monthly cash flow sheet so we can analyze where our money is going,if we are holding steady or in the hole. A worksheet consists of net wages and monthly expenses. After you add up your monthly expenses subtract that from your net wages. remember your tithing is ten percent (10%) of your gross wages before taxes (ex: gross $400.00 - 10%= $40.00 tithing). Money is alot different in a marriage and is a major conflict. When kids are involved you have to financially plan for them too. God's direction is that sexual relation are proper only within marriage but no one follows that. When we follow God's command,no babies are born out of wedlock but we'll leave that for another blog.
Teach your children about finance, for children are a gift from God. After a child learns how to count consider giving them an allowance for doing chores. Doesn't have to be alot of money start small and work their way up. Teach them the value of saving by putting money in a piggy bank or small jar. Teach the child how to budget by having them write down some things they want then when they go to the store write the price down. Show then what they can afford and how much more they need to get something they don't have enough for right now. Our dependence is to be on God and not the money. We should seek to live a balanced life putting our finances in proper prospective.
