Save money, time and gas every month fairly easy

Savings is a word many of us simply cannot find a use for in our vocabulary with the current economy. I believe lots of people picture actual savings as a large deposit of monies made every month. Countless are unable to measure it in small amounts. However, small amounts of money add up to large amounts of money faster than lots of individuals believe.

Imagine if you could save just $10 a day. That $10 a day is about $300 each month and that is a substantial amount over the course of a year (12 X 300= $3600). How much could you use an extra $300 every 30 days? What could you do with more than three and a half grand extra in your pocket every year? None of us would turn down an extra more than three and a half thousand dollars.

The extra monies in a separate rainy day fund or spent on something special in mind or even on something we can no longer afford (its called inflation) is terrific. Regardless of what you decide to do with your additional dollars, everyone benefits from saving $10 a day.

These are easy tools and techniques to realize an extra $10 in your wallet at the end of the day without much effort.

1. Cable is for prime time, but is it for you?

Cable television is an area where more and more Americans look when it comes time to talk about saving money. Getting the premium package is not something we need as much as we thought we did when we got it. It sounded wonderful, but when the bill started coming, things changed. Make some modifications to find some money in your pocket.

Get rid of the premium channels and see how much more you have in your wallet each month. When you get rid of these you also discover how easy it is to live without the extra. The hype about the these is not worth the cost. Many have not been seen in months. Most subscribers find premium channels are watched substantially less than the basic cable.

Trim down your cable subscription or eliminate it all together and go with Netflix or a similar service. Most of these particular kinds of extra television options are a fraction of what cable costs and are watched on demand or only when you want them.

2. Eliminate paper towels and paper napkins from your grocery lists

Paper towels and napkins are better products for a time when you don’t need to realize more money in a budget. For families using these on a regular basis, a lot of dollars are spent every 30 days for this seemingly little extra. Transform your grocery list or trip to the market when it comes to these products.

Instead of using paper towels all of the time, allot a specific amount to buy and when they are gone use dish towels for the same purposes. Buy these every other trip to the market or once a month. On second thought, lots of people live without this extra and get along well.

Surprisingly, every one doesn’t need a paper towel or napkin every 5 minutes knowing they are limited. Understanding when they run out they are gone until the next month’s grocery run puts a new face on the situation. They will be used more frugally or dish towels used instead. Towels will be recycled through the wash saving the environment and other materials as well.

3. Turning items off, but not unplugging them is costing you energy

Did you know if an item is turned off, but still plugged in energy is still being used? This is called phantom energy. This phantom energy is still being run through the appliance and charged to your account. A great way to bypass this is attaching items to a power strip and turning the strip off each day. It’s much easier to turn off one power strip with one switch than turn off 4-5 separate electrical devices.

A wonderful example is turning off the power strip to an entertainment center with your CD player, DVD player, television, cable box and one other electrical device attached saves a monthly average of $15 to $30 according to the Dept. of Energy. Attach a single power strip for multiple things working together anyway. Use one for the computer, monitor, printer and scanner to find out how much less an energy bill will be with one flip of the switch at the end of the day.

4. Be conscious of running errands around town in the car

Gas per gallon is decreasing. Though, if you are increasing trips around town you are missing out on money better spend somewhere else. Better time management when using your car give an advantage to a budget. Put the gasoline savings in the bank and less wear and tear on any vehicle means less maintenance costs.

If you are taking care of a couple of errands on the other side of town with one planned for Wednesday and one for Thursday, consider doing both on Thursday. Make a short trip out of two long ones.

Instead of driving 4 times for two trips, drive only 2 times (there and back) for both trips. If each trip costs around $10 in gas you see an extra $10 by consolidating, not counting the time you saved not driving around town and less maintenance for your vehicle. Running errands the smart way is a smart way to find more in your wallet.

5.Re-evaluate your ATM fees

This one is something more people have been looking at lately with recent events in the news related to banks. The info is banks are charging more for your debit card use whenever possible. Start doing something about this right now. Re-thinking how and when you use an
ATM is an important variation to a bigger monthly budget to work with.

When you need money from the ATM, look closely at when and where you get money. Fees for using the machine add up over a month. A quick review of your bank statement lets you know how much you spend on ATM fees. Use a debit card smarter for more money. There are more than a few options.

If you need cash try getting it as cash back when making another purchase. There are some stores charging fees for these services. Though, a majority of them offer it for free. This means when you are at the grocery store checking out with your groceries in need of some cash, use your debit card to get cash back for free and bypass the ATM machine fees.

Try to use machines in your bank's network. By making certain you use their ATMs you avoid fees from your bank. Along with these fees other institutions charge you for using their machine as well. Review the bank’s network locations to discover where they all are.

When you elect cash back when making another purchase, you are also saving time along with money.

In conclusion

These are five big ways to save $10 or even more every month. Some of these methods will net much more than $10 depending on what your monthly costs turn out to be. Not only are these easy and simple methods to see something extra in your wallet or savings account, but many also give a bonus of more time on top of the cash.

These are excellent and do-able money saving suggestions that sound pretty painless. We already save by not having cable and watching out for ATM fees. Getting cash back at point of purchase is a great tip for avoiding those money grabbing machines! Now for some of those power strips to shut off those electricity sucking appliances...
