What Motivates You to Make Money From the Internet?

Passion of course creates motivation but what side is your bread buttered on? Are you passionate about the subject you write about or are you passionate about making money. Both would be the best answer, but that is almost impossible to have our cake and eat it too.

Some people can say “I want to make over $100,000.xx per year online” and that greed for this goal would be enough. Not true – the term “Money isn’t everything” is true in so many ways. Even if someone learns the ins and outs of everything needed to make money from the Internet the chances are that only a small percentage of people will actually follow through and do it. The reason is they have no fire in their belly.

Making Money Online: Are You Motivated To Do It?

Making Money From The Internet Causes Creative Procrastination

Fear motivates some but in the online money making market – that is usually never a reason that drives people to accomplish their goal because fear is fleeting for most and making money online takes time and patience. Creating an online income is a cold and calculated vocation that is only successful if the person has discipline, patience, creativity, and knowing that eventually it will work for them.

People in other countries are so much more motivated than their USA counterparts because in some countries making a measly $13.78 from a pay per click program allows them to live like kings and queens. That’s one visit to a Starbucks for most us so the allure is not there for sluggish, lazy and hedonistic Americans.

Motivation to make money online is more like a decision and applying self-disciplined long-term habits that will make it possible to complete this task. Things like creating creative useful content for posting on the web, performing search engine optimization chores, and the mind numbing task of fishing the e-river of the Internet for those sorely needed relevant keyword targeted backlinks.

Action and Self-Discipline Makes Money Online Fast

So thinking you will get excited about anything in the above paragraph is probably not going to happen for ninety-nine percent of the online income sojourners. Yes, we are all passionate about some subject but nine times out of ten the subject(s) you love will be low earners when it comes to Adsense. I love writing about food and recipes, but the payout on this niche is garbage. Unless you get a half million unique hits a day (and the Food Network probably has this pretty well tied up) you will just earn pennies for your food site.

I have said in previous articles that you have to have a “Why” to make money online or money in anything and that is true. A lot of people just want to make ends meet at the end of the month and that is a huge “why”. Some stay at home moms are making money from the Internet to offset the cost of college for their children in future. Then there are just really smart people who see this industry for what it is – a cash cow that needs to be milked in a systematic way over a long period of time.

Heck if anyone has tried self-hypnosis to motivate them to make money online – let me know how that is working out I may just try it myself. Acting on our motivation is key to becoming a success with creating multiple streams of income. It’s OK if we stray from goal but we need something in place to keep our eye on the prize. I keep a photo of our family and our house taped to the edge of my monitor and another photo of my boss at work (that one really motivates me to keep plugging away). Yours may be similar to my reasons for choosing this way to make money or completely different and have different desires – but it all comes down to having money to have more time to do what we want.

Very thought provoking hub, Jon. My original motivation for joining Hubpages was fear that my hours at my job would be cut in half. At my age, it is not so easy to find another job. So money was my initial motivation. After finding out it takes much more than just posting an article, I have been applying all the tips I have learned in HubPages and elsewhere and my traffic and earnings are slowly increasing. I have always liked to write but I am becoming much more passionate. I have ideas rolling around in my head and not nearly enough time to get them out. And I am thoroughly enjoying the writing process. My job is safer now, but I will still continue to pursue my goal of making some extra money. My writing is much more than making money now... it's becoming my life. Stay motivated!

The choices on your poll did not really include my motivation for wanting to make a fulltime income writing from home. My reply would be "spending time with my family". Time is too short to spend most of my waking hours far away from my loved ones. When I write I can create my schedule around being with them. Best of both worlds!
