Amazon Lightning Deals
Amazon Lightning Deals
Amazon has many promotional offers: Gold box deals, free items offers, multiple item discounts, "best value" and last but not least, Lightning deals.
A Lightning Deal is offered on a limited number of items for a short period of time. They are available, one per customer, until either the promotion period for the deal expires or all the available promotional discounts are claimed.
Lightning Deals are offered daily on the Gold Box page or are found scattered across many categories on amazon.com.
A Lightning Deal that is not yet available will display the start time, a countdown and will be marked "Coming Soon!". The Lightning Deal price is not shown until the deal starts.
How to claim a Lightning Deal
When a Lightning Deal is available, an "Add to Cart" button is visible. To claim a Lightning Deal:
- Log into your account and visit the page where the deal is. During the time period it is active, click on the "Add to Cart" button.
After you add the deal to your Cart, a timer will appear next to the Lightning Deal indicating how much time is remaining to complete your purchase and redeem the discount. Adding an item to your Cart does not reserve that item for you. If you do not purchase an item within approximately 15 minutes after you add the deal to your Cart, the deal will expire. You'll see an alert when you have 10 minutes remaining to complete your purchase.
You won't be able to add additional quantities of the same deal to your Cart. Only one promotional discount is available per Lightning Deal customer. Deleting the claimed item from your Shopping Cart will remove the promotional discount from your account and you will no longer be able to receive the item at the Lightning Deal price. Note that f you delete the deal from your Cart, the deal status will remain "Claimed."
Joining a Waitlist
If all the discounted items for a Lightning Deal are held by other customers, but not all purchases have been completed, you will see a "Join Waitlist" button (and the status bar will show that 100% of the discounted items are currently being held in other customers' carts or have already been purchased).
If purchases in customers' Carts are not completed within 15 minutes, the lightning deal will be made available to the next customer on the waitlist.
To join a waitlist, click the "Join a Waitlist" button. If you are the next customer on the waitlist, you will be notified: an alert will display in the upper right-hand corner of your amazon.com page. You will see that the deal is available to add to your Cart, and you will see the time remaining to do so. If you don't add the deal to your Cart within the time limit, you will be removed from the waitlist.
Complete Your Order
You should complete your order through the Shopping Cart as soon as possible after claiming the Lightning Deal. The Lightning Deal price will be shown in your Cart by the label "Special Price." This "Special Price" will be shown in your Cart until the deal becomes invalid, then the price shown will be the everyday Amazon.com price.
Make sure the expected discount is in the "Lightning Deal" section of the Order Summary before you place your order. You will also receive confirmation by e-mail that the Lightning Deal discount has been applied to your order.
Amazon checking the deal's status
You may sometimes see a "Checking deal status" message after you click the "Add to Cart" button. For all Lightning Deals, Amazon will verify eligibility on a first-come first-served basis. Don't reload or refresh the page in your browser while this status appears. If the deal is still available for the item when amazon gets to your request, you'll see the status change to "in your Cart" and the item will appear in your Cart. If all deals are claimed before they get to your request, you won't be eligible to receive the promotional discount.
Expired or Sold Out Lightning Deal
When the time period for the deal ends, the Lightning Deal is marked "Expired." After all the promotional discounts have been claimed, the Lightning Deal is marked "Sold Out." You will usually have the option to visit the item's product page and purchase it at the current Amazon.com price. The purchase will no longer be eligible for the Lightning Deal promotional discount.
