What does retirement look like to you?

There has been the perception in the past that when people retired, they would have the money and time to do the things they wanted to, such as travel, spend time golfing, etc. How do you see your "golden years" given the economic times today?

I am uniquely qualified to answer this question as I am currently and just recently retired. While we have 'enough', living on fixed and reduced income relative to the time when one is working, makes money tight. Here is a place to visit for one of several looks from my perspective

It's wonderful, Danette!  When my husband died six years ago, I went into deep depression and was not able to work.  I received disability from my employer for a year, but still not able to go work full-time after.  I was in sales.. it was very stressful.  So I quit!  I don't have lots of money, only my late husband's pension and I work part-time whenever I feel like it.  I don't have a big house, just a small apartment.  I'm very good in budgeting so I am never without.

I had traveled the world when I was younger, had lived the fast life, had a wonderful marriage for 26 years, had loved and lost (lost for the most part).  I am healthy (knock on wood), I eat healthy foods (most of the time anyway), I walk everyday, I take pictures and videos, visit my kids and cook Sunday brunch every other weekend.. they want Sunday brunch every week, but I have a life too! lol), sing karaoke, volunteer at the local animal shelter.  I am busy enjoying life.

I hope I have another soulmate out there to enjoy life with, grow old together, walk hand and hand, dance in the rain.  But, if not, I will still enjoy my golden years... I will still dance in the rain... nekkid!

At 37 years of age, and 23 years working full time I have saved exactly $0. I barely make enough to survive month to month, and I have no current potential for better earnings. So I guess my answer would be that I plan to die working.
