Landmark, I was thinking we need a supplement to Medicare. Yikes, I really don't know any of this. We use my husband's work insurance, but if he leaves that job, we won't have that private insurance anymore.
Obviously you have to be over 65 for Medicare. But the supplemental plans differ state to state. The SHIP office can certainly give you a list of carriers and who does what. Medicare will cost about $100 a month and Supplemental depends on the plan
L, thanks again so much! I'm 68 1/2 and Mike will be 66 in Nov. I just told him that since he has another appt today, we should go down to the SS office and figure this all out. I never took Medicare, just had the B part in case of an emergency.
Part A is free in terms of premiums. Part B & C or D is what you pay for. This may help. http://hubpages.com/money/Understanding-Medicare... Some of the deductibles may need to be updated. Good Luck
L, Again my thanks! Mike went to the SS office and didn't ask about Medicare BUT we didn't know that you can get SS AND keep working FT! Shocked!. So, we're running the numbers now. might b good for him to keep working his job a bit after 66.
Don't forget to get a quote on the SS spousal benefit before you opt in. Some more info if it helps...http://hubpages.com/money/Should-I-Collect-Social-...
