Learn how to make a really good budget (including ALL expenses, especially those that are usually missed such as holidays, extra-curricular activities for kids, etc.) that's averaged out over an entire year, and that includes a monthly savings of 10% of your income. If it doesn't balance, decide what you need to give up for it to and do it. Stick to the budget, and modify it whenever you discover an expense that didn't get on there. If you have to, set all bills possible to automatic withdrawal right after payday, then withdraw the amount of money needed for your expenses for the month and divide it into paper envelopes and only take the appropriate envelope with you shopping, out to dinner, etc...when the money is gone, you can't have that item. That's where it starts...from there, the management plan depends on your personal situation.
