Interview with Patty Inglish, MS

  1. Tell us a little about yourself. A lifelong resident of Ohio, I have never lived elsewhere, but have visited parts of Canada several times, being drawn to the cultures and the natural surroundings of that nation. Regarding employment, I compose resume packages for a variety of individuals, including executives to new college graduates, and the US military returning from Iraq. I also do medical and wellness research, along with film reviews. In addition, I volunteer as a coach in our city recreation centers and for the Nigerian and Cameroon martial arts/wrestling/boxing groups, including the Olympians. Single and enjoying travel, I hope to visit the Mohawk Reserve in eastern Canada, travel to Nigeria, and visit Australia in the next few years. My leisure time activities include reading, poetry, several types of music, cooking, and camping. I attend a non-denominational church that studies the original languages of the Old and New Testaments and other texts, aligned with the cultural traditions along the same timeline in the books of the Bible for context. I plan to write books in the future on the topics of work readiness & job search and martial arts history going back 6,000 years to Egypt.
  2. What brought you to HubPages? Looking for sites on which I could write continuously and earn a stream of income, I tried Article Axis, Associated Content, Helium, certain blogs, medical sites and several other sites that approximated Squidoo; all without success. A few of these entities even failed to pay and went out of business. I found HubPages in another search, noting its professional look and "feel." After reading some of the high-quality Hubs and looking at AdSense, I decided to try writing online once again, with good results. In addition, HubPages provides a forum for practicing my writing skills; when I publish a book, it will be HubPages that has enabled me to develop a style with which to accomplish that end.
  3. What do you like Hubbing on, with respect to topics? My favorite topics are Job and work-readiness related subjects, Education, Science, and answering Requests.
  4. What has been your best Hub so far (in your opinion)? Why? My Flagship Hub, Job Search Engines: Complete Reviews, is thorough and practical, so I like it the best. My next best Hub is Native American Nations Around the World, because it provides information that the bulk of the general population never hears - especially about how diverse nationalities are actually related.
  5. What is your favorite Hub by another Hubber? That is You have achieved God's Abundance by Mr. Marmalade, because it was a fun contest that involved other Hubbers that played for fun with a lot of energy and a good discussion thread. Mr. Marmalade provided witty encouragement and barbs that were refreshing and fun as well.
  6. What is one nice thing about HubPages (the site) that many might not know? It teaches one to write a two-column newspaper article with illustrations and photos.
  7. Name one thing you learned about from another Hubber's Hub that you didn't know about before. Hovalis' Hub on Australian Bush poetry was completely new to me.
  8. What kind of Hubber do you typically join the Fan Club of? I join fan clubs of Hubbers that have put forth effort to be productive, to overcome obstacles, to use common sense and integrity to make things happen, or to entertain others with good stories that contain clean humor.
  9. If you could impart one piece of advice to a new Hubber, what would that be? Write at least one good paragraph of 275 -300 words about something you know well and include one relevant picture to draw the eye into the flow of words. Then check your grammar and the facts to make certain you are correct. If you use Wikipedia, I suggest using only the references at the bottom of each page because the site holds some topics that contain large amounts of incorrect information. College students across the US are failing classes because they depended on that particular incorrect information. If a writer cuts and pastes from Wikipedia, the numerous links in the text show up in their online submission, even though they don't always show up at their end!
  10. Tell us something that we'd never guess about you—surprise us! My senses are intermeshed: I hear colors when I see them and see colors when I hear music. When I see numbers, especially equations, I hear music. When I read/hear words, I experience tastes, or a combination of tastes for many words, even if the words have nothing to do with food or flavors. Smell and taste are the same to me. In addition, when there is loud noise, I can't see; so I learned to block out noise. I also feel vibrations of landline phones, car horns, sirens, etc, before I hear them, so with that early warning, I usually don't startle.
