Interview with Robin

  1. Tell us a little about yourself. I was born and raised in San Luis Obispo, California and received my undergrad degree from Cal Poly in 1997. In 1998 I married Paul Edmondson, who works at HubPages. After Poly I became a teacher in Cupertino, CA before Paul's work moved us to Seattle. In Seattle I decided to go back to school, and I received my Master's Degree in Educational Technology from the University of Washington. After graduating we had our first daughter, Georgia, and I decided not to go back to work for a few years. In 2004 we moved back to San Luis Obispo to be closer to family. Our second daughter, Julia, was born in 2005 and we moved to San Francisco for HubPages shortly after. We are now expecting our third daughter, due in February.
  2. What brought you to HubPages? Obviously, I have been on HubPages since the beginning because of Paul, but I think I'd enjoy writing on HubPages even if I wasn't married to him. It is such a great intellectual outlet for a stay-at-home mom. I think the community is very intelligent and I learn new things every day.
  3. What do you like Hubbing on, with respect to topics? I like to Hub on topics about parenting, education and products that I love.
  4. What has been your best Hub so far (in your opinion)? Why? My two favorite Hubs are on my extremely talented and successful childhood friends, Inga Swearingen and Beth Curry. I'm so proud of them, and they are both such wonderful people.
  5. What is your favorite Hub by another Hubber? There are so many hubs that I have loved in the last year, it's hard to pick just one. I always enjoy the hubs written by Jimmy, Wajay_47, Drax, Nightflower, Chuck, Ralph, glassvisage, and many others.
  6. What is one nice thing about HubPages (the site) that many might not know? When Paul, Jay and Paul Deeds started building HubPages, they lived in Paul Deeds' house that was under construction and worked out of the garage. All three left their wives/fiancées for a few months while building the website. We had a two-month-old baby at the time and a three year old. Paul and I did a lot of traveling back and forth from San Luis Obispo to Berkeley (about a three and a half hour drive.) It was a crazy time, but worth the sacrifices.
  7. Name one thing you learned about from another Hubber's Hub that you didn't know about before. I feel like I'm a fairly knowledgeable mom, but Lela Davidson is always imparting great information on parenting and what is happening with kids around the country.
  8. What kind of Hubber do you typically join the Fan Club of? I like Hubbers that write passionately about the things that they are interested in. I also like Hubbers that make comments and want to be a positive part of the community.
  9. If you could impart one piece of advice to a new Hubber, what would that be? You never know which hub will be successful. I recently wrote a hub on how to make a fleece blanket; I never would have thought it would be one of my top hubs. The more you write, the higher your chances are of success.
  10. Tell us something that we'd never guess about you—surprise us! Paul and I have known each other since we were two years old. We both grew up in San Luis Obispo and were best friends in high school. In college we started dating and were married when we graduated, almost 10 years ago!
