Minister Urges Stronger Unity Among Muslims

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Seyed Mohammad Hosseini called on the world Muslim nations to utilize their commonalities to confront foreign interference in their internal affairs.

Muslims in different parts of the globe share many commonalties, which if are used effectively, they can prevent foreign intervention in their affairs and have better conditions, Hosseini said, addressing a group of foreign guests here in Tehran on Saturday.

Ayatollah Khamenei said during an address to a group of Iranian officials, ambassadors of Muslim states and Iranian people in September that Muslim nations should get closer to each other day by day and move in line with unity because that's the sole way of campaign against enemies of Islam.

Tikrit Suicide Bombs Kills 34

In Tikrit, a town north of Baghdad in Iraq, two suicide bombs have claimed the lives of at least 34 people, according to the Washington Post. The first bomb was detonated at a mosque inside a presidential palace built by former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein. Tikrit, the now-deceased dictator's hometown, is dominated by Sunnis and is home to a number of government officials.

While responsibility for the two bombings has not yet been ascertained, many suspect al-Qaeda in Iraq, which has been behind a number of other recent attacks. In March, the group asserted responsibility for another massacre in Tikrit when uniformed combatants attacked a provincial government building. The attack left 53 dead.

IAEA Receives Evidence Iran Nuke Program is Military

VIENNA - The UN atomic watchdog has received further information regarding activities that "seem to point to the existence of possible military dimensions to Iran's nuclear program," Yukiya Amano, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), said in a speech to the agency's 35-nation governing board.

Amano's statement underlined the UN body's concern that the Islamic Republic may be working to develop a nuclear-armed missile. Tehran rejects such suspicions, saying its nuclear program has only civilian aims, mainly generating electricity.

For several years, the IAEA has been investigating Western intelligence reports indicating Iran had coordinated efforts to process uranium, test explosives at high altitude and revamp a ballistic missile cone so it can take a nuclear warhead. Amano made clear that Iran's response had not been satisfactory, saying he had sent a new letter to Abbasi-Davani on June 3 "in which I reiterated the agency's requests to Iran."

Nuclear Weapons Threat Not Decreasing, Study Says

More than 5,000 nuclear weapons are deployed around the world and ready for use, "including nearly 2,000 that are kept in a high state of alert," according to a report by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI). Nuclear powers continue investing in new weapon systems, making meaningful disarmament in the near future unlikely, the report continued.

As of January 2011, Russia had 11,000 nuclear warheads, including 2,427 deployed, while the United States had 8,500 including 2,150 deployed, the report said. The US and Russia have signed a Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START) that calls for a maximum of 1,550 warheads deployed per country.

However SIPRI argued that prospects for meaningful disarmament in the short term are grim as all eight countries seem committed to either improving or maintaining their nuclear programmes.

"The five legally recognised nuclear weapons states, as defined by the 1968 Non-Proliferation Treaty are either deploying new nuclear weapon systems or have announced their intention to do so," the report said, referring to Britain, China, France, Russia and the US.

India and Pakistan are "expanding their capacity to produce fissile material for military purposes," according to the report. SIPRI Director Daniel Nord said south Asia, where relations between India and Pakistan seem perpetually tense, is "the only place in the world where you have a nuclear weapons arms race."

While Israel, which has never conclusively declared itself a nuclear weapons state but is almost universally assumed to be one, "appears to be waiting to assess how the situation with Iran's nuclear programme develops," SIPRI said.

The report said that North Korea "is believed to have produced enough plutonium to build a small number of nuclear warheads, but there is no public information to verify that it has operational nuclear weapons."

Nord identified Pakistan "losing control of part of its nuclear arsenal" to a terrorist group as a specific concern. He also voiced worry over the potential consequences if "Israel or the United States decide that they will have to intervene and do something about the programme in Iran."

Iran has repeatedly insisted that its nuclear programme is non-military, but several world powers have demanded closer international inspection of Iran's nuclear sites to verfiy the claim.

Ahmadinejad: U.S. Seeking to Sabotage Pakistan's Nuclear Facilities

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad reiterated on Tuesday that Washington is seeking to sabotage and damage Pakistan's nuclear facilities in a bid to undermine the country's security and sovereignty and prolong its military presence in the region. He also underlined that Americans also want to use the UN Security Council and other international bodies and organizations as a leverage to pave the way for their extended military deployment in the region and also to weaken Pakistan's national sovereignty.

Analysts say the US and its Western allies are preparing the grounds for widespread military presence in Pakistan. They also believe the US is looking for an excuse to expand its military operations in the troubled Southern and Central Asian regions to secure its bases near Russia and China.

This comes as India and Pakistan have been locked in intense rivalry since they gained independence from Britain in 1947.

India and Pakistan have occasionally tested conventional and unconventional weapons over the past years. New Delhi conducted its first nuclear test in 1974, followed by five more in 1998. Islamabad conducted its sixth nuclear tests in 1998. Both neighbors have refused to sign the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and other international treaties that restrict the development or testing of nuclear weapons.

Brotherhood gains official political legitimacy for first time in its 80 years.

The Muslim Brotherhood was officially illegal but mostly tolerated during the rule of president Hosni Mubarak, ousted in a popular revolt on February 11. It was set up in 1928 and an official ban imposed in 1954, over its suspected involvement in a series of political assassinations in the 1950s, including an attempt on the life of Egypt's first republican president, Gamal Abdal Nasser.

Iran Sends Submarines to Red Sea in Move That Could Anger Israel

Iran says its military ships have entered Red Sea with goal of collecting information and identifying other countries' combat vessels, according to semi-official Fars news agency.

State-run Press TV said in May that the 14th fleet, comprised of two vessels, the Bandar Abbas warship and Shahid Naqdi destroyer, had been sent to combat piracy in the Gulf of Aden.

"The fleet entered the Gulf of Aden region in May and has now entered the Red Sea in the continuation of its mission," Fars said.

Two Iranian warships passed through the Suez Canal in February, the first such move since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, en route to Syria. Tehran said the mission was one of "peace and friendship" but Israel called it a "provocation".

Al-Qaeda Posts Fresh Warning from al-Zawahiri to U.S.

Ayman al-Zawahiri, al-Qaeda's number two, has warned that Osama Bin Laden will continue to "terrify" the US from beyond the grave. The statement was posted on Jihadist websites.

"The sheikh has departed, may God have mercy on him, to his God as a martyr and we must continue on his path of jihad to expel the invaders from the land of Muslims and to purify it from injustice," Zawahri says. "Today, and thanks be to God, America is not facing an individual or a group, but a rebelling nation, which has awoken from its sleep in a jihadist renaissance."

He also backs the wave of Arab unrest and calls for Sharia Islamic law to be applied in Egypt. And he warns Libyans that Nato's bombing campaign seeks to replace Muammar Gaddafi with a Western-backed tyrannical regime.

U.S. Slams Iran Nuclear Enrichment Plan as 'Brazen' Defiance

Iran's announcement that it plans to triple its production of higher-grade uranium is another "brazen" example of Tehran's defiance of its international obligations, a senior U.S. official said on Thursday. The European Union also voiced deep concern over Iran's announcement it would increase its capacity to produce higher-grade enriched uranium, saying Tehran was increasing its defiance of the UN Security Council.

Iran said earlier it would shift its production of higher grade uranium to an underground bunker and triple its production capacity, an announcement certain to add to Western concern about the Islamic state's atomic ambitions.

Amano has been voicing growing concern about possible work in Iran to develop a nuclear-armed missile and Western envoys believe he may firm up that suspicion in reports on the country's nuclear activities later this year.

Report: Syrian Army Helicopters Open Fire on Protesters

First reported use of air power to quell protests in Syria's uprising; Assad won't answer UN Chief's phone calls; UN talks on draft Syria resolution remain deadlocked.

Syrian helicopter gunships fired machineguns to disperse a large pro-democracy protest in the town of Maarat al-Numaan on Friday, witnesses said, in the first reported use of air power to quell protests in Syria's uprising.

UN spokesman Martin Nesirky confirmed a report by Kuwait news agency KUNA that Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon had been trying to call Assad on Thursday but was told that the president was "not available." He added that Ban had been trying to speak with Assad all week but was unable to get through to him.

Separately, UN Security Council diplomats met again in New York on Friday in an attempt to break their deadlock on a European-drafted resolution that would not impose sanctions on Syria but would condemn it for the crackdown and suggest Syrian security forces might be guilty of crimes against humanity.

Envoys said Britain and France are growing frustrated with South Africa, Brazil and India for resisting the idea of condemning Damascus. They say that Russia and China will also likely try to block any Western attempt to have the Security Council sanction Syria over its nuclear program.

India tested a short-range nuclear-capable missile along its eastern coast on Thursday, an official said, as part of the nation's efforts to build up its atomic deterrent.

Actually, That's NOT in the Bible

(CNN) – NFL legend Mike Ditka was giving a news conference one day after being fired as the coach of the Chicago Bears when he decided to quote the Bible.

"Scripture tells you that all things shall pass," a choked-up Ditka said after leading his team to only five wins during the previous season. "This, too, shall pass."

Ditka’s biblical blunder is as common as preachers delivering long-winded public prayers. The Bible may be the most revered book in America, but it’s also one of the most misquoted. Politicians, motivational speakers, coaches - all types of people - quote passages that actually have no place in the Bible, religious scholars say.

"Whatever I command you, be careful to observe it; you shall not add to it nor take away from it." (Deuteronomy 12:32 KJV)

But people rarely challenge them because biblical ignorance is so pervasive that it even reaches groups of people who should know better, says Steve Bouma-Prediger, a religion professor at Hope College in Holland, Michigan. Few catch on because they don’t want to - people prefer knowing biblical passages that reinforce their pre-existing beliefs, a Bible professor says.

"For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book; and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book." (Revelation 22:18-19 NKJ)

Some of the most popular faux verses are pithy paraphrases of biblical concepts or bits of folk wisdom. Our fondness for the short and tweet-worthy may also explain our fondness for phantom biblical phrases. The pseudo-verses function like theological tweets: They’re pithy summarizations of biblical concepts.

People may get verses wrong, but they also mangle plenty of well-known biblical stories as well. Getting biblical scriptures and stories wrong may not seem significant, but it can become dangerous, says Sidnie White Crawford, a religious studies scholar at the University of Nebraska.

"We often infect the Bible with our own values and morals, not asking what the Bible’s values and morals really are," Crawford says. "Today, so many different translations are used that almost no one can tell for sure if something supposedly from the Bible is being quoted accurately or not."

Star Trek's "Mr. Spock" Urges Two-state Mid-East Peace Solution

Leonard Nimoy, the Jewish-American actor who starred as "Mr. Spock" in "Star Trek", has become the latest celebrity to weigh into the debate about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

He characterises this as "a secure democratic Israel as the Jewish State alongside an independent Palestinian state".

He mentions how a group of 50 prominent Israelis, including the former heads of Israel's intelligence service, Mossad, and its internal security agency, Shin Bet, have called for two states for two nations.

"It's only logical: Mr Spock supports two-state solution for Mid-East peace," reads the headline in the Haaretz newspaper.

Hal Lindsey Comments on the Demise of the U.S.

What's happening here in the United States? What we're witnessing in America is perfectly in line with what the Bible predicts for the days leading up to Christ's return for His church.

Hal Lindsey stated this week, that:

You've heard me often say that I don't see a role for the United States in end-times prophecy. I believe that means that the US will either not exist or will be so hamstrung, crippled, or weakened that it is of no consequence during that time. On the surface, that seems to be a ludicrous assumption. Who or what could cripple us?

Our greed! And our lack of self-control.

This greed and recklessness is driving America to bankruptcy and that's probably what will remove her from any substantial role in the final days of this age.

Of course, America's dilemma gets even more precarious since we created the money out of thin air to buy the debt we were selling to finance more spending. That required more money that needed to be financed with more debt which we could only sell to ourselves.... You get the picture.

Unfortunately, there's no end in sight since the politicians seem not to have the guts to put a stop to it.

We are in a recession/depression largely of the banking cartel's making. That's right - cartel (SEE "Federal Reserve System"), a group dedicated to the protection and profitability of its privately-owned member banks. Just like OPEC is dedicated to preserving the profits of its member oil-exporting countries, the Fed (and its wholly-owned subsidiary, the U.S. Treasury) is dedicated to protecting the profits and power of its members.

This greed and recklessness is driving America to bankruptcy and that's probably what will remove her from any substantial role in the final days of this age.

TBN Censorship of Regular Program: "Jack Van Impe Presents"

Viewers were upset when they tuned into TBN on Wednesday night expecting to see the regular ministry program dealing with biblical prophecy and churches that have lost their way, with recent mention of four well known religious leaders that are promoting "Chrislam" – a uniting of Christianity with the Islamic faith.

Matt Crouch of TBN informed (JVIM) Jack Van Impe Ministries that they would not run the program. The reason he gave was that JVIM specifically mentioned Rick Warren and Robert Schuller and that it is TBN’s policy that broadcasters are not allowed to rebuke other ministries. This is a rather hypocritical statement in light of the fact that they have never said anything in the past when JVIM had rebuked others such as Bishop Spong, Bishop Pike, and in the past few months Harold Camping and Rob Bell.

Jack Van Impe stated, he Will "Not Be Silenced!", and further said "I will not allow anyone to tell me what I can and cannot preach. When I see heretical teaching leading to apostasy, I will speak out."

Dr. Van Impe points out that the Bible says (his emphasis):

"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness..." (II Timothy 3:16).

The Apostle Paul also gives the instruction (as Van Impe emphasizes):

"Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers. For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers... Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake... Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith". (Titus 1:9–11,13)

JVIM immediately called their Media Agents and told them that they no longer wanted to air their program on (TBN) the Trinity Broadcasting Network: "We will take the tremendous amount of money that we were spending there, to obtain new stations that will allow us to continue to reach every square mile of America with the truths of the Bible without this network."

Exclusive: Christians Must Reject Ayn Rand Says Faith-based Group

During this time of financial crisis and talk of severe austerity measures in nearly every statehouse across the nation, the philosophy of author Ayn Rand has become a rallying cry for many leading Republicans who see her as something of a patron saint to American capitalism. But before evangelicals fully commit to the tea party's favorite budget measures, one vocal Christian group thinks they should know something about the movement's famous figurehead.

However, it's not just Rand's economic and regulatory arguments that has the non-profit advocacy group American Values Network (AVN) angsty: they want Republican evangelicals to know that Rand was also an atheist who quite literally hated Jesus. They've even produced a video to that effect.

Solar Flare Sparks Biggest Eruption Ever Seen on Sun

A mushroom of cooled plasma popped like a pimple and rained onto the surface of the sun yesterday—shooting perhaps the largest amount of solar material into space ever seen, scientists say.

What shocked scientists was the unusual amount of material that lofted up, expanded, and fell back down over roughly half the surface area of the sun. The event's simultaneous launch of particles into space is called a coronal mass ejection (CME).

Solar Flares May Threaten Power Grids - Chamberlin said it will take some time to calculate the energy and mass of electrons and protons blasted into space. But he noted the volume occupied a space hundreds of times bigger than a single Earth.

He warned space-weather experts are concerned about future solar events. The sun's 11-year cycle of activity, driven by tangled surface magnetic fields, will hit its maximum in late 2013 or early 2014. Magnetic messiness will peak around that time and prompt nasty solar storms.

If one of these powerful flares—and its coronal mass ejection—faces Earth, the particles will pound satellite components with charged particles, short some out, and potentially cripple them. Energetic solar storms could blow transformers and lead to power outages, especially during heat waves like the one sweeping the eastern U.S. this week.

2 Die as Heat Wave Persists Across U.S.

The heat wave baking the country's midsection entered its third day Wednesday with high temperatures taking a deadly toll from Milwaukee to Memphis.

The hot, humid air, which the National Weather Service warned could create triple-digit heat index readings in many places, also began to spread into the Northeast, where temperatures across southern New England climbed into the 90s on Wednesday and appeared to be headed for potentially historic numbers on Thursday, meteorologists said. Hot and humid weather is expected to stifle much of the mid-Atlantic.

Arizona Wildfire Triggers New Evacuation Orders - AP - June 6, 2011

One of the biggest wildfires ever in Arizona grew even larger Sunday and authorities ordered more people in the area to abandon their homes as the 287-square-mile blaze burned toward more buildings.

Arizona Fires Creep Toward New Mexico

A huge forest fire in Arizona has destroyed around 230,000 acres of forest, and forced some 2,500 people in rural communities to evacuate as firefighters battled the blaze. Over the course of the day, the fire grew from 192,746 acres to 233,522 acres.

There are no reports of casualties from the fire, but the third largest blaze in the state's history was nowhere near containment on Tuesday, with high winds and low humidity fueling the inferno expected to continue for days.

Floods Swamp Earthquake-Ravaged Haiti, Killing 23

PORT-AU-PRINCE — Torrential rains lashed Haiti on Tuesday, flooding shanty towns, swamping the squalid camps erected after a 2010 earthquake and killing at least 23 people, officials said. The worst rains to hit the impoverished country this year - at the start of the hurricane season - paralyzed the capital, where most of the deaths took place, according to officials at Haiti's civil protection agency.

Health officials here also fear an uptick in fatalities from a cholera outbreak that erupted last October. The diarrheal illness thrives in crowded areas where people rely on contaminated water.

Floods Kill 14 People, Leave 53 Missing in China

Rain-triggered floods in southwestern China have killed 14 people and left 53 others missing while destroying roads, bridges and thousands of homes, officials said Tuesday.

Some 45,000 residents in worst-hit Wangmo county have been evacuated since flood waters inundated the area Monday, said Tang Quanshu of the county’s flood prevention office. She said another 3,000 people were still stranded. Meanwhile, the waters toppled 300 houses and left 2,400 submerged, while 21 square miles (5,500 hectares) of farmland were under water, Tang said.

Source of Europe's E.coli Outbreak That Killed 22

Officials in Germany say they believe the deadly E.coli outbreak that has killed 22 people in Germany and Sweden is linked to locally grown bean sprouts.

Health authorities say about 2,000 people, most of them in Germany, have been infected. Ten other European nations and the United States have reported 90 infected people, nearly all of whom have recently been in northern Germany.

The outbreak is the deadliest in modern history to involve E. coli, and appears to be the second- or third-largest in terms of the number of people who have become ill. Scientists say the bacteria is a previously unknown genetic recombination of two different E. coli strains.

New Fishkill Hits 3 More Areas in Taal Lake in Batangas

BATANGAS CITY, Philippines—(UPDATE) A new fish kill has hit Taal Lake in two towns and a city in Batangas, just hours after authorities had cleared one side of Taal Lake of rotting fish.

The new fishkill hit on Sunday the lake’s water along the towns of Mataas na Kahoy and Cuenca and the city of Lipa. At least 20 metric tons of "bangus" (milkfish) and tilapia.

As of Saturday, almost 2,000 metric tons of fish along Taal Lake have been lost to the fishkill, with losses estimated at P142 million.

Uruguay: Cause Sought for 600 Dead Penguins

MONTEVIDEO, Uruguay — Authorities in Uruguay say they have found about 600 dead penguins washed up on the Atlantic coast since Saturday. Experts are trying to determine what has killed the animals.

A marine animal rescue group perviously reported that the carcasses of 400 Magellan penguins washed up around the resort town of Piriapolis along with dead turtles, dolphins and albatrosses. The resort is about halfway between Montevideo and La Paloma.

Joplin Tornado Survivors Developing Rare Infection

JOPLIN, Mo. -- In the aftermath of the Joplin tornado, some people injured in the storm developed a rare and sometimes fatal fungal infection so aggressive that it turned their tissue black and caused mold to grow inside their wounds. Scientists say the unusually aggressive infection occurs when dirt or vegetation becomes embedded under the skin. In some cases, injuries that had been stitched up had to be reopened to clean out the contamination.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Friday that it was conducting tests to help investigate the infections, which are nornally so uncommon that even the nation's largest hospitals might see only one or two cases a year.

The infection develops in two ways: when the fungal spores are inhaled or when a tree branch or other object carrying the fungus pierces the flesh. Most people who get sick by inhaling the spores already have weakened immune systems or diabetes. But healthy people can become sick if the fungus penetrates their skin. The fungus blocks off blood vessels to the infected area, causing tissue to turn red and begin oozing. Eventually it becomes black.

If diagnosed in time, the infection can be treated with intravenous medications and surgical removal of affected tissue. But it's considered exceptionally dangerous, with some researchers reporting fatality rates of 30 percent for people infected through wounds and 50 percent for susceptible people who breathe it in.

Joplin officials say more than 1,100 people have been treated for injuries after the storm, many of them from objects sent flying by the twister. A week after the tornado, patients began arriving with fungal infections.

Rift More Than Six Miles Long and Three Miles Across - Opens Near Puyehue Volcano, Chile

There are no reports of injuries so far, but more than 3,500 people have evacuated their homes near an erupting volcano in southern Chile. Authorities say a rift more than six miles long and three miles across was torn in the earth's crust about 2½ miles from the peak originally thought to be erupting. The violent eruption sent smoke and ash billowing into the sky.

Wind carried ash across the Andes to an Argentine tourist town, which had to close its airport. Officials in the town warned residents to take precautions against a possible prolonged ashfall.

The eruption is nearly 620 miles south of Chile's national capital, Santiago.

Even though everything we have discussed and shown thus far seems to depict a tragic and fateful end for our world, that is actually NOT THE CASE! The state of humanity's existence does not end in chaos or complete destruction at this time. Nor will these events leave the whole world in a panicked state of confusion, always to be frustrated in futile attempts trying to achieve a Utopian existence. The "Great Tribulation" period is only for a few short years and is merely a transitional period at end of an age. A NEW AGE IS COMING immediately thereafter!

"...SEE THAT YOU ARE NOT TROUBLED; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet." (Matthew 24:6 NKJ)

"All these are the beginning of birth pains [sorrows]." (Matthew 24:8 NIV-KJV)

This is probably the most accurate representation of the entire "Great Tribulation" event. "Birth pains" are very discomforting and often quite painful. A new birth involves "labor" which is an extremely strenuous and exhausting process (ask any woman who has endured this). The end result however, is "relief" from this labor and suffering because a "new life" is then born!

That is exactly what will transpire in this world. We are in the final chapter of an old and worn out age of civilization. A grand and glorious new age lies directly ahead for those of us that endure and have accepted the Lord God.

"These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Therefore, they are before the throne of God and serve him day and night in his temple; and he who sits on the throne will spread his tent over them. Never again will they hunger; never again will they thirst. The sun will not beat upon them, nor any scorching heat. For the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd; he will lead them to springs of living water. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes." (Revelation 7:14-17 NIV)

THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT ASPECT OF ALL THESE PROPHECIES

Therefore, these sometimes frightening words of prophecy are really a harbinger of hope to those who are searching for God today. It is through the belief that Christ died for our sins (John 3:16) and faith in His second coming (1 Thessalonians 4:14-18), that we are all "saved" and will enter into the coming Kingdom of Heaven along with Him.

"For the grace of God has appeared that offers SALVATION TO ALL PEOPLE. It teaches us to say 'No' to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope - the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ." (Titus 2:11–13 NIV)

"He who testifies to these things says, 'Surely I am coming quickly.' Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus! The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen." (Revelation 22:20-21)
