African Americans Still Facing Discrimination

Even in 2012

discrimination has been taking place in this country ever since it was first discovered, and has not been completely taken away. Even though Title 8 of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 makes it illegal to discriminate against a person based on race, color, sex, national origin, or disability.

Discrimination against African Americans or Black Americans began when the United States was developing. People from Africa were kidnapped and sold into slavery, then treated like common animals. Their children were taken from them, families were separated, and many of them were either worked or beaten to death. Even after slavery was ended after the Civil was discrimination was powerful.

When the Vietnam was came, African Americans contributed to the military efforts. However, they were forced to be in segregated units. Even though African Americans made up less then 10% of men in the men in arms, the accounted for 20% of all combat related deaths in Vietnam.

Discrimination against African Americans are all over the United States. Statistics can prove this to be true.

1) The middle class White family earns almost 18% more then the middle class Black family.

2) The middle class White family, about 72%, owns their homes, while only about 46% of the middle class Black family owns their homes.

3) Unemployment is for Black people is double then it is for White people.

4) Some companies hire mostly White people. An example is Microsoft. In the 2000, there were 20,000 White people working for Microsoft, and 544 Black people working for Microsoft. That is the most incredible statistic I could find.

5) Racial discrimination is a serious problem in the Judicial System. About 98% of the Judges are White. Black men are 8 times more likely to be put in prison then White men. When it comes to death sentences, 74% of them are given to Black men.

Another thing I found when looking for information for this hub was horrible. I found studies that were done about African Americans. Since there have been several studies, this hub is only going to focus on one of them. This study co-authored by Jennifer Eberhardt, an associate professor of psychology at Stanford University.

This study showed that many Americans subconsciously associated Black people with apes. Also, this study showed that many people thought violence against Black people was more acceptable then White people. The name of this study is " Not yet human: Implicent knowledge, Historical Dehumanization, and contemporary consequences."

I think discrimination and racism is sneakier today than it was when we were children but it is still very much a truth in the country. I wish it were not so but I have no clue how it will ever end. It seems to self-perpetuate.

Those statistics are alarming. It is very unfortunate that many African Americans face discrimination on a daily basis. I think until the people in this country admit that there is a problem, the issue of discrimination will continue. It is good that people like you are bringing this subject to the forefront. Good hub Michele.

My God,that's horrible.I dunno why they still judge people by the color of their skin.I thought that period of time was gone.what s the matter if I m from Costa Rica or from the darkest region of Africa?arent we all children of Adam and Eve,living under the same sun and breathing the same air?that kind of character should be stopped.it's annoying and crazy. In my last year in Univ,I wrote a monograph about the function of black American Literature in promoting the awareness of blacks,a teacher asked me in the time of discussion a weird question:would you like to marry a black girl or white girl?I said to him:I ll marry the one who offers me much more love?black white yellow ..are just colors nothing more and the beaty is the skin deep and only in the eye of beholder.

I find more overt discrimination from northeastern white people who moved to the south which was a surprise for me. The prejudice attitude rubs off on other ethnic populations. We moved into a racially mixed middle class subdivision where Blacks, Hispanics and Asians are in the minority. Thinking the diversity would be a good thing since we were coming from northeast. It did not work that way. I've been identified as the gardener, and the dog walker. Police was called twice by people who actually live across the street, saying there was a “homeless/suspicious person,” in the neighborhood. No I had no bags or shopping cart, and I was actually wearing designer jeans and athletic shoes. They just couldn’t believe Black people actually live in the subdivision.

The US can have all the laws and amendments in the world, but nothing is going to change until attitudes, thinking and behaviors change. We’ve met some people of all colors like you who are so disgusted with the way things are. We have to remain strong and focused, and not accept ignorance, or change will never happen. Voted up

Even my daughter who has Asperger's Syndrome which is a high level of Austim does not understand racism. I still can't understand it. But, you are right. We do have to remain strong and focused. We also have to teach our children how wrong it is.

dashingclaire another thing that bothers me is that African Americans are not being give credit for things that have been invented. History has given credit to Thomas Edison for the invention of the light bulb, why aren't we taught that Lewis Latimer's innovations towards it's developments? Until Latimer's process for making carbon filaments, Edison's light bulbs would only burn for minutes. Latimer's would burn for hours.

they forget that Afro-American are also the hands that built America:

Elijah McCoy (1843–1929) invented an oil-dripping cup for trains.

Lewis Latimer (1848–1928) invented an important part of the light bulb — the carbon filament.

Jan Ernst Matzeliger (1852–1889) invented a shoemaking machine that increased shoemaking speed by 900%! In 1992, the U.S. made a postage stamp in honor of Matzeliger.

Granville T. Woods (1856–1910) invented a train-to-station communication system.

Madam C. J. Walker (1867–1919) invented a hair-growing lotion.she grew up poor. But she became the first female African- American millionaire.

Garrett Morgan (1877–1963) invented the gas mask.He also invented the first traffic signal.

Dr. Patricia. E. Bath (1949–) invented a method of eye surgery that has helped many blind people to see but she failed to make the racists to see the participations of black people in building America.

Lonnie G. Johnson (1949–) invented the world-famous watergun, the Supersoaker.

I agree with you, racism still exists.though it may not be as clear cut as it used to be, it certainly exists. I think modern racism is often expressed in side comments, "jokes", and stereotypes. Most Americans would be horrified to find out that a branch of the KKK exists in their town, but the same people might laugh at a racist joke without thinking twice. I think some elements of racism are downplayed while others are considered shocking.referring to a group of migrant workers as "the mexicans", for example, would probably garner a smaller reaction than referring to a group of people on the street as "the blacks".

I often hear the statement, "I'm not racist! My best friend is black!" In this statement, there is racism. Defining someone by his or her skin color is inherently racist in my opinion.Even your President Obama has faced some backlash if you were to view the placards that people carry to anti-Obama rallies that they are not only racist and offensive but mean spirited and cruel.

Michele Travis you and Revenga-down are so right about lack of credit in history. You noted Blacks in military service. LeRoy Wilton Homer, Jr. United Airlines (First Officer) Pilot of ill fated flight 93 on 9/11. LeRoy Homer Jr. survived the Persian Gulf War. He was a 1987 graduate of the US Air Force Academy. Yet in the movie of flight 93, a white actor was used to play Homer. This is the kind of action that makes Blacks bitter and distrustful. History gets rewritten when convenient.

in Quran,God says:

"AND MANKIND IS NAUGHT BUT A SINGLE NATION."

"AND AMONG HIS SIGNS IS THE CREATION OF THE HEAVENS AND THE EARTH, AND THE VARIATIONS AND DIVERSITY OF YOUR TONGUES AND OF YOUR COLOR; VERILY IN THAT ARE SIGNS FOR THOSE WHO KNOW."

we all of us were created of a single pair of parents; yet we had spread to different climates and developed different languages and different shades of complexions. And yet,our basic unity remains unaltered.we feel in the same way, and are equally under God's care.

There is one verse in the Holy Qur'an, however, which not only re-states the common origin of man, explains the division of humanity into nations, or race and tribes, tells us that the object and purpose of this division was also the ultimate unification of humanity, but goes a step further: It points out to us the one and only criterion, the only standard by which man is judged by god, and thus by which we should also judge our fellow-man. As you will presently see, THIS CRITERION IS NOT HIS COLOR, NOR HIS RACE, NOT HIS SOCIAL STANDING OR CASTE, NOT EVEN HIS SKILL AND THE DEGREE OF HIS INTELLIGENCE. It is something which to achieve lies within reach of every human being, black or brown, white or yellow, rich or poor, if only he made an effort to cultivate it within himself. Says the Holy Qur'an:

"O MANKIND WE CREATED YOU FROM A SINGLE (PAIR) OF A MALE AND A FEMALE, AND MADE YOU INTO NATIONS AND TRIBES, THAT YE MAY KNOW EACH OTHER. VERILY THE MOST HONORED OF YOU IN THE SIGHT OF GOD IS (HE WHO IS) THE MOST RIGHTIOUS OF YOU AND GOD HAS FULL KNOWLEDGE AND IS WELL AQUAINTED (WITH ALL THINGS)." Holy Qur'an 49:13

"The principle of the brotherhood of man laid down here", observe an author of an English translation of the Holy Qur'an, "is based on the broadest foundation. The address here is not the believers: but to men in general, who are told that they are all, as it were, members of one family, and their divisions into nations, races, tribes and families should not lead to estrangement from, but to a better knowledge of each other. Superiority of one over another in this vast brotherhood does not depend on race, nationality, wealth or rank but on righteousness, on the careful observance of duty towards God and fellow-man, on moral greatness", to which I maybe permitted to add: and on the strength of one's "IMAN", of faith in the one and only God because it is through faith and through submission unto the will of God only through which we can attain to moral greatness.

once when the Muslims conquered Egypt at the time when Omar ibn al Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) was Khalifa, a Muslim leader who happened to be a black man named Ubaydah ibn Thamit, took a party of the Muslims to meet Muqawqis, the Christian leader of Egypt.

When the Muslims came to Muqawqis, with Ubaydah in the lead, Muqawqis was frightened by the color of his skin.

‘Get this black man away from me and bring someone else,' he demanded. The Muslims refused. They insisted that Ubaydah was the best among them and was their leader who they obeyed and whose judgment they deferred to. They told Muqawqis that the color of a person does not matter to them. Finally Muqawqis had no choice but talk to the leader of that Muslim delegation.

These Muslims were practicing an Islamic principle that individual character is the base of preference not color of skin.

Sorry,I didn't want to talk about Islam here but just wanted to show that Racism is not allowed in my religion.any Muslim,in fact, who judge people by their colors or race is not a Follower of Islam and any Christain who do the same is not a FOLLOWER OF Jesus teachings.sorry again!

Good topic, and to this day I cringe about this subject. It is one that has existed for years and years now. Although, one can never get used to knowing, that a race (I belong too) are still treated somewhat the same. The only difference is, it's a way to hide the treatment. In big companies they hide by not promoting the blacks who can clearly do the job. Yet, they hire the white countepart. When a black person ask why were they overlooked, something to the effect of well you don't have a degree. Whereas the white person has a degree, but less experience over the black person who may have 10 years in a particular poistion. (I used this example because it happened) at a company I worked for.

Michele, not all people are children of God. They have to be born again and it is Jesus who said it (John 3:3). Till then, they have been reborn to Satan's family. We are saved by His Grace through faith and nothing else. Jesus is the Door John 10.

BTW Christians now are discriminated everywhere, nothing say about it?

Great hub. Thank you for your honesty.

While racism exists everywhere, it's blatantly displayed in the south. There, african americans may "appear" to be doing well but are often blatantly being paid lower wages and are often placed in low level positions (regardless of their education, training, and experience) which is so sad. My friends have told me they feel as if they have stepped back in time with segregated socialization, legal services provided which were unprofessional and "limited" based on their skin color, mistreatment because they don't carry themselves as others (intelligent and confident), and so many african americans are in "service roles" regardless of their education / degrees. Everyone has two jobs or their own business (a.k.a. hustle). While having your own business generates wealth, not everyone is cut out to be their own business owners or want to run around on 4 hrs of sleep working two low paying jobs.

Racism is alive in America. It's so sad because if everyone was judged on by the content of their character rather than their skin color, everyone's life would be enriched.

I am a biracial man half black/ half white. Everybody gets discrimniated against white and black. Let me tell you having some pigmentation has its perks. I think being black is good for protection people don't usually mess with you. It protects you from the sun. On television commercial they will always show the black man as superior stronger and cooler than the white man. I honestly think if the average white man spray tanned his skin black he would not want to go back. Being black is a lot of fun and you don't have to watch what you say as much as a white person does. So lets not downplay the benefits of having pigmentation in today's world. if you wish to eliminate discrimination, then educate the children to quit worrying about discrimination and start worrying more about getting the greatest education that they can.

today's education system is not discriminatory if the individual applies themselves to it correctly.

all paths lead to advancement if the individual desires to learn, they will find a way to learn.

terms like racism, sexism, etc. simply convey a devisive symptom.

these terms will never fix the problem because the problem is the individual, not the society.

no law will ever eliminate discrimination, because no law can force an individual to abide by it. besides, for every law written about discrimination, there is another law that permits an individual to prove they were not being discriminatory.

no one can legislate moral principles for another person.

no government can install moral principles in the person.

each individual must answer for themselves - not for others.

discrimination comes in all forms and from all people.

in order to overcome discrimination of any sort, the individual must rise above the discrimination, not attack it.

by attacking the symptom of a specific discrimination, the individual wastes much time which would be better spent in educating themselves in ways to overcome the discrimination.

if the United States had spent all the money that has been spent on lawyers who went to court over perceived discrimination cases on education rather than the legal mumbo-jumbo, the education system would be better than it is today.

the United States will always be a society with a racism, sexism, and other discrimination problem, because individuals always look for the bandaid fix when they really need a miracle cure.

the miracle can only be found in advancing education - not the legal battle that results in even more double-talking political discrimination hogwash.

Your statistic about Microsoft's hiring policy can be cleared up by Bill Gates' own characterization of the company's hiring policy, which it needs to stay competitive: A November 25, 1996 Fortune article by Randall E. Stross, entitled "Microsoft's Big Advantage—Hiring Only the Supersmart," featured some surprisingly frank statements by Gates that sound like The Bell Curve on steroids: "There is no way of getting around [the fact] that, in terms of IQ, you've got to be very elitist in picking the people who deserve to write software." … Microsoft could teach its employees in specific skill areas, but it could not instill intelligence and creativity—those, Gates said, were "reasonably innate." The best programmers, in Gates's view, are people who are "supersmart." … His self-confessed "bias" in hiring—"toward intelligence or smartness over anything else, even, in many cases, experience."

Hi Michele! I can't thank you enough for your article on African Americans and discrimination. There needs to be soo much more done to promote the awareness of discrimination of Blacks in America today. Being an African American male, I have experienced discrimination first hand my whole life, and can say it has been one of the biggest set-backs/ obstacle in my life, but one thing I've noticed, many will admit to Americas dirty little secret behind closed doors and state how they feel bad for Blacks, but go right back to their day to day lives, forgetting that we're still fighting a losing battle daily! I do appreciate those that acknowledge that racism still exsit and thrives in America today, but that alone won't end racism! We need for everyone who believes in justice and liberty for all, to speak-up and speak-out about the injustices black people and all people of color face and still endure today... through blogs, facebook, twitter, youtube, your local government (you probably won't get a response), but the goal is to get the message out when and however you can! We definitely need people like you Michele that are non-black who aren't afraid of speaking out and telling the truth! America has a problem that needs to be addressed ASAP, because if African Americans alone only speak out, racism is just another topic up for debate! If you're not a racist, but you ignore racism your not only adding to the problem you're part of it!

This article, some ones opinon, is not only flawed but small minded thinking. The statisics may be true but not because of color. It a cultural thing. Excelling in HS is knocked down by other blacks citing uncle toms and other reasons to not learn the white mans ways. This leads to almost unemployable youths who turn into adults with few if any skills whom rely heavily on government assistance furthering the demise of any hope for a brighter future. Nation wide less than 60% of blacks youths even complete HS. College? The standards have been dramitically lowered over the years to accomidate inferior students (many black "grads" had test scores altered which is proven by the low reading and comprehension skill set they exibit) resulting in undereducated college "graduates", particularly blacks . Take that and the poor language skills and broken families that poverty and no future from cultural acceptances perpetuate and it's no stretch to understand the low employment, low pay and low ownership of anything except a closet full of expensive tennis shoes.

I am so sick and tired of the none too subtile discrimination of Afro Americansespecially here in Florida, but also as far as Canada. I am a lilly white WASP ,member NAACP, a CORE tester in SF in 60's,one of only two white Black Stident Union faculty advisers in the USA,worked with the Black Panthers in 1970s,etc., etc.

I am referred to as a "flaming N----- lover" and proud ot it. Now I wish to do what ever I can to diminish this cancer. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I am in South Florida west coast near Sarasota in Bradenton. Have vehicle and will travel.

I think I'm missing the Microsoft thing? Would it be wrong to assume those numbers simply reflect white to black population?

Republicans fought against democrats to win civil rights so the law dropping thing didn't make sense??

I have read several books written in the 1800s that documented many slaves stayed on the plantations because the owner treated them like family and saw to their welfare? Interesting article but it seems a tad racist when you stereo type all slave owners as beastly, many were Christians and applied biblical standard to their lives, .... My ancestors were slaves also but that shouldn't stop the years of rhetoric many would have us believe, interesting hub

Curious... did the 18% income difference take into account education levels, hours worked, household VS. individual incomes etc. Most of these studies only do an apples to oranges comparison. Generally when equal education and hours worked etc. are taken Into account, the figures are much closer.

Also when all factors are balanced you will find that Asians average higher than both Whites and Blacks. Where does that fit in the "race" issue?

Is there racism? yes. Is it generally systemic? no.

Is unemployment, as a percentage of population, higher for Blacks then Whites? yes. Has that number grown worse in the past 4 years? Yes.

Should a private business be forced to utilize hiring practices other than what they think is in the best interest of their company? No.

Lamont Gibson 3 years ago

On January 25, 2007 at approximately 12:00am I was pulled over in North Dallas and blocked by a police squad car and a police van. I had just ended my shift as a Dominos delivery driver and was still in uniform. I was immediately asked to exit my vehicle by the officer in the squad car and his very next statement was turn around put your hands behind your back your being handcuffed for safety precautions all while leading me to the back of the police van where I was put inside. Moments later I saw a wrecker coming to tow my car and there began an approximatly seven hour journey around North Dallas where these officer’s arrested several black males until the police van was full. Every black male arrested throughout this ordeal none of us new the reason why. Upon arrival at Lou Sterrett we were put in a holding tank without arraignment. Approximately 24hrs later I was in court with about 100 others. The judge there never muttered a word instead a very large muscle bound police officer began to tell everyone that this was traffic court no one was innocent an a plea of not guilty would get you locked back up which would cause you to have to bond out. After over a hundred guilty pleas including myself we were released.

Around September 2007 I was stopped again in Highland Park for no seatbelt and made aware at that time that I was driving on a suspended license. I immediately went to Crowley Court and found out that on the night of Jan 25, 2007 several tickets were turned in on my name and car for no insurance, no registration, no inspection. I was never issued any tickets that night all lies. I requested a hearing and upon seeing a judge I was given a court date of June 2008 all most nine months later. My license stayed suspended which resulted in me losing both my jobs as a Realtor with Keller Williams and as a pizza delivery driver. A month later homeless! I lost everything! Most importantly the love of my son’s. The next five years have been spent in and out of jail for these very tickets and now child support. As of today warrants are still active for these same tickets. Through faith and instructions of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ I have survived this ordeal and able to get back on my feet. Revenge is not in me and Justice is for the Lord but my boys are owed an explanation as to why they were made to feel like their father doesn’t love them. This is my first step in an attempt to repair what has been damaged between my son’s and I. I am strong and will continue to work to pay off the over $60k debt in child support these officers have cost me. I can’t began to explain how this has hurt me and my boys and what they have had to go through while I was rendered helpless. As of today google my name and the first thing you see is mugshots of all the arrests stemming from these tickets posted by companies looking to advertise for background checks. Come on your taking advantage of those who have made mistakes and some that haven’t. Believe me there are numerous citizens locked up whom are absolutely innocent just without the support/money they need to prove their innocence. I am well on my way to wealth through this motivating process and keep your faith in God not man. Starts through giving!

A lot of people think I am wrong, but for some reason it looks like it might be getting worse. Look at what happened a few days ago when it came to the voting rights act of 1965.

Just two hours after the Supreme Court reasoned that discrimination is not rampant enough in Southern states to warrant restrictions under the Voting Rights Act, Texas is already advancing a voter ID law and a redistricting map blocked last year for discriminating against black and Latino residents. Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott issued a statement declaring that both measures may go into effect immediately, now that there is no law stopping them from discriminating against minorities.

Roger, I think you are right.

I truly don't know why white people deliberately provoke blacks - lying about racism & discrimination. White Christians males created forced integration in 1964. There was no historic percent to it. Blacks were Supposed to be a separate and self-reliant people--build their own towns, cities, industries, and their own distinct culture. They chose integration.

The following LINK provides a very good reason White people are keeping their distance from African Americans:

@Lamont Gibson ... In order for you to be processed thru traffic court a traffic citation HAD to be written. And on it would be what you were charged with. I hv been in a Dallas traffic court. I had an opportunity to present my case. I was not FORCED to plea guilty. I find that assertion of yours, that you were forced to plead guilty, to be very hard to believe. I also find it IMPOSSIBLE to believe that 100 blacks (?--you imply they were ALL black)) were rounded up while driving and hauled off to jail ... for no reason whatsoever. Then all were made to plead guilty without even knowing what they were charged with. A white socialists would believe you. I , however, am not a white socialist.

From what you wrote, I am inclined to believe that you were stopped at a traffic checkpoint. You did not have insurance, a valid driver license (or no license at all) and/or proper registration.

BTW. Dallas has a black police chief - appointed in 2010. Hardly the actions of a racist white police force.

Joel Savage 3 years ago

Discrimination against blacks will never end. The reason is simple and logical. Do blacks love themselves? Blacks hate themselves more than the whites they accuse of discriminating against them.

They also understimate themselves. You need to be a celibrity before a black celebrity could answer your mail, but they have forgotten that you the common black is one of the fans who gave them support in their in their career to reach that position.

If blacks want to be respected and discrimination by whites to be stopped, they must first learn to respect themselves.

They all agree that the Americans are not African Americans, they are Americans. I am not a Slovenian American and I am second generation. I think the tag creates racism. When my wife and I have a conversation about someone we have met. We do not say this black person I met today or this white person or this Asian person I met today. We simply might say I was talking with this couple today at church and...... it does not make a difference. We may say they are from Ohio or they are from Togo if it is meaningful to the conversation. Let us quit looking at color and we will begin to put racism behind us. Start at the White House then Congress then Church leaders...start with us one person at a time.

If only race nullification was actually working --as the compulsory integration laws DEMAND.

I know white people , as I hv researched integration extensively, are following the laws.

I find it almost comical that all act of racism and discrimination are always ignored by blacks and their white advocates of black victimization; and that white people hv in fact followed the forced integration laws...are also always ignored by the same people.

EXAMPLE 1:: Compton, CA is 32% black and 68% Hispanic. Blacks control ALL political seats in the city, including the state assembly seat and the congressional seat. Blacks also hv over 80% of the city jobs.

EXAMPLE 2 :: City of Inglewood (CA). In 2012, blacks are appx. 40% of the city population. Anglo is about 5% and Hispanics 55%. Guess who controls all but one city council seat? Yup. Blacks.

EXAMPLE 3:: Mayor of Atlanta? Black...

Police Chief of Atlanta? Black...

Mayor of Selma, AL? Black...

Mayor of Kansas City? Black...

Mayor of Jackson, Miss.? Black...

Mayor of Birmingham, AL.? Black...

Police Chief in Birmingham? Black....

Police Chief in Dallas TX? Black

Governor of Louisiana? Person of Indian Descent

Governor of S.Carolina? Female of Indian descent

Chief justice of Florida Supreme Court in 2008? Blck female

I could go on and on...

EXAMPLE 4:: What was the most egregious racist act by an elected official since forced integration was created (1964)? Black male Eddie Jordan (former New Orleans District ATT). The day he took office he fired ALL the white employees in his dept. and replaced them with black employees.

What race of people commit more than 90% of all violence that cross racial lines? Blacks Who are their exclusive targets of violence? White people. In 2005 , there were 580,000 acts of violence by blacks against whites - 1 out of every 10 black males between 15 and 34 committed an act of violence against a white person . Yes, white people are being attacked because of the color of their skin! The question is why is the MSN ignoring black racism? Why do both political parties ignore it?

http://news.yahoo.com/black-americas-real-problem-...

If black violence against white people is going to continue at its present pace, the compulsory integration system (i.e. civil rights laws) will hv to be repealed.

If i were Michelle Travis, or any other member of the white advocates of black victimization, instead of conjuring up falsehoods of white people victimization blacks, I would devote my time to trying to figure out a way to STOP black racism&HATE in America. ONE people can take only so much...

There is NO constitutional right to integration.

You're a Gloria Steiman /Gloria Allred/ Nancy "Dopey" Pelosi devotee i.e. white male hating DEM, who believes laws should be created to MAKE men subordinate to females.

Females' biological duty is to procreate....and raise children. Males build societies and status environments. Females live in them and perpetuate them. Females were NEVER suppose to be part of the male's status environment. Al l of human history dictates this. How in the HECK this top·sy-turvy world of compulsory integration came to be...is beyond my intellect to comprehend.

Hi Michele Travis. Just wanna ask what Africans might have felt like and done immediately upon arrival in US. Can you please answer this. I have this assignment about Africans and I don't know how to start it. Pretty PLEASE?

S Leretseh profile image

S Leretseh 2 years ago

Africans were rounded up in Africa by fellow Africans. Fellow Africans did their round-ups willfully - indeed, gleefully. They would then sell their captives to slave-traders for seashells (cowries). White lawmakers - the Americans - outlawed the importation of slaves to the US in 1808. By 1860, free blacks (males and female slaveholders)) took over the slave-breeding business. American White Christians are the only people in human history to ever fight and die for the cause of ending slavery. After white males granted the black man his COMPLETE freedom in 1865, white people expected black males to become providers and leaders for their people - to be separate and self-reliant as a people.

Even tho white people were doing the black man no wrong by requiring separate living arrangements (legally or morally), white liberals came along and told the black man - late 1950s - he was being wronged. The black man easily accepted this monstrous distortion of reality ...and took it up as his battle cry i.e. INTEGRATION BY WHATEVER MEANS NECESSARY. After 90 years of the expectation (from white people in America)... for blacks to become masters of their own destiny...blacks in the early 1960s began a civil-disobedience campaign to put a permanent end to white people's demand that they (blacks) be self-reliant and provide for themselves within the structure and confines of the own group -a human requirement of one distinct people toward another that was without exception throughout human history.

In 1964, white Christian lawmakers ... in the most magnanimous gesture of one people toward another in human history ... gifted the black man his integration plea.

I wonder how white males must hv felt all across America being FORCED into this social-engineering experiment. For all white males certainly knew -- in 64' - the black race had just got a pass on their human requirement to be self-reliant as a distinct people, and the legislative system was NOT created for the purpose of achieving racial (or gender) integration

Been a while since I visited, to address Credence: Those were difference times, you say I can't mix Christianity and slavery together? The bible says in several areas to treat your servants well, therefore Christians of old simply took the literal statement as God knows we have servants. Those Christians of that day also believed sodomy would send you straight to hell. They believed if you stole a horse you should be hanged until dead. etc. Slaves were not invented by us, there has been slaves for several thousand years starting with the Israelites. Hope that helps.

S Leretseh profile image

This site appears to hv been abandoned by the author.

Without blacks willing and ready to round up fellow blacks the slave trade would not have existed.

The Founding Fathers - NOT ONE OF THEM - wanted or even envisioned the remote possibility of people of African descent being US citizens. Their first act of Congress was to define who they wanted to be American citizens: "...a free white male"

After the civil war, the creators of the 14th & 15 Amendments (technically illegal since the southern states were dissolved when they were passed into law) ... were only meant to allow blacks freedom of movement (create their own towns, cities, residential communities, political environments), and allow them the right to do business and give them due process of law. Blacks were a FREE people after 1865! They also had a right to colonize a place in america after 1865 if they truly felt they were being oppressed. Blacks after 1865 WERE NOT AN OPPRESSED PEOPLE. Such rubbish.

White people DID NOT discriminate against blacks from 1865 to 1964!. Not in the pejorative sense. There was a color line. There was suppose to be a color line. Blacks were suppose to be a separate and self-reliant people. Instead, they marched against that concept - which the construct of human history demanded - and sought integration and attachment - by whatever means necessary.

White Christian males gave the black race their "dream" pursuit with the 1964, '65. '68 compulsory integration laws. Non-pejorative discrimination was made unlawful. Since 1964...white people HAVE FOLLOWED THE LAWS. It is, and ironically, Black racism that needs to be addressed today.

The leretshe dude has an interesting perspective. Agree that blacks were suppose to live separate from white people and they (blacks)chose integration. Blacks being a self reliant people doesn't seem like such a bad idea

Being Black Man SUCKS!!!

I can find a job, but there is never any growth. We get over looked or passed over, or sometime the WHITE guy will fill like you don't need that. I always read about the problem but never see any solutions. As a black man it is little I can do because there is no real black owned business in America unless you want to cook or clean. I guess the American Dream is for Whites only? I just want to take care of my Family. Another thing that happens to Black males is when a Black Female is in HR and they don’t help and will try to block you too. Unless it is her man or the guy she sleeping with and I know that sounds mean but it is so true.

"Being black SUCKS!!!"

No, being white in America today SUCKS!!! Being white means having to allow one of Eric holder's people to walk up on you and attack you - beat, rob, sucker punch, gang assault, being forced to provide for virtually the entire black race thru your [white] tax system, listening to blacks and their white liberal advocates claim blacks are the victims in america of racism & hate, with no proof whatsoever, while we continue to watch racists attacks like these:

Forced integration MUST end! Blacks need a homeland in America. ENOUGH of this Civil Rights reign of terror. White liberals need to sacrifice their bank accounts to pay the victims of this force dintegration social engineering experiment.

Less pay regardless of education. Freezing "others' out of higher management. Good ol boy tactics. What's worse if minorities that go out of their way to disrespect their own culture/race practicing mistreatment while kissing up to others. Racism all the way around is present and implemented.

Black skin will protect the white man!

Google Jeff Kephart and click on view all to find a white man who changed his appearance to black.

What many are perceiving as racism is actually a base fear of Blacks because of all the Violence, burning & looting done by Blacks whenever they are upset or protesting. A huge number of Blacks can NOT use the English language properly so employers are reluctant to hire them because of the need to keep up a good corporate image, many educated Blacks still cling to Ebonics or Hood type speech far too often. The "Black Lives Matter" is under alot of scrutiny because they don't protest the horrible rate of Blacks killing Blacks. Its hard to consider someone "Equal" when you are afraid of them, don't see them making progress when they have been given so much help ( Affirmative Action, Anti-discriminatory Laws, Etc.), unwed mother birthrates are climbing, most unwed fathers don't pay child support, & according to stats about 52% of all murders are committed by Blacks yet the us population is only about 14% Black. Racism is thrown out any time someone says these things I have stated. When all people start looking at the situation through clear glasses instead of rose colored glasses maybe things can start changing for the best of "ALL Races". I Think "ALL LIVES MATTER" & much more respect should be given to POLICE who have an underpaid, dangerous, stressful job. All police are NOT BAD, just as with any other profession there are going to be some "BAD APPLES" , overall I think Police are doing a Great job under undesirable conditions. Lets be honest about all these things, honesty & cooperation can solve many problems when used together.
