After The Confederate Flags Are No More...

After The Confederate Flags Are No More... Still There Will Be Lingering, Malignant Social Ills In Our Black Enclaves....

Make no mistake, our white brothers and sisters who are domiciled in the heart of Dixie and love the Confederate flag should have known and understand, given its history and symbolism, why it is an offense to Black folks... and common courtesy should have propelled them long ago to get rid of the Confederate flag and put it to rest for what it represented. If you noticed that I said the folks in the South should have done so on their own because we can never legislate love/empathy by fiat; but due to the deaths of the nine Blacks, in a church, at the hands of a racist and who apparently placed his allegiance in what the Confederate flag stood for, spurred the subsequent, ongoing, clarion call for its destruction. The question I have, notwithstanding the mostly symbolic ridding of the Confederate flag, who, among us, thinks that the many ills - specifically, the Black-on-Black killings - and the other social, malignant cancers in the Black neighborhoods will come to an end?

It is not the disrespectful flying of the Confederate flag that is the cause of our not learning or the disproportionate out-of-wedlock babies or the wanton violence, much of it borne out of gang-related violence for turf to peddle drugs. We Blacks always seem to engage in empty symbolic acts... resulting in what is akin to like consuming Chinese food, but then are left bereft/wanting soon after. Take the famous Million-Man-March, did it prevent the whole-sale slaughter of Black men that happens every weekend around this country - was the Confederate flag the catalyst for such self-hatred? I know my history, whereby there used to be signs that said: dogs and Chinese not allowed - how is it that the Chinese are striving academically... even more so than the White majority; somehow, the Confederate flag, though offensive, do not have the deleterious effect it does on our Chinese brethren, but somehow magically we are going to resolve all our self inflicted wounds that are plaguing the Black precincts.

I have to address the proverbial elephant in the room on account of the Confederate Flag issue, which speciously purports that only where the Confederate flag is flying that there-in-lies chronic racism. I say to you that the Confederate Flag is flying in the hearts of many Whites who reside in Liberal New York, Massachusetts, and California, yet they are rabidly racist; the irony is that they will wax poetic that they voted twice for President Obama... but try getting a high paying job in their law offices or banking institutions - I speak from personal experience. The Al Sharptons are quiet on the subtle but lethal racism of those in the East or California because the former are paid off... so much so that many of these Liberal Eastern/Western racists have convinced these Civil Rights pillars that placing a man's penis where the stench of the human waste comes out is the same as being Black - now, this is and should be more offensive to Blacks than the flying of the Confederate Flag!

As I write, I am trying to see if I need counseling because, as a boy, I used to religiously watch the Dukes-of-Hazard. Who knows what has happened to my psyche because of my exposure of seeing the Confederate flag painted on the General Lee - oops, that name General Lee was that racist military genius who headed the Confederacy - I definitely need counseling. I jest knowing that we have tendencies to place our efforts into these vacuous efforts that are not going to produce anything substantively. I suppose now to that they will be calling for a ban on the country group, 'Lady Antebellum' or ban the Leonard Skinner classic, "Sweet Home Alabama," knowing the reason why the song was composed or banning the classic God-Father movies because one of them referred to Blacks as niggers/animals or banning the Bible because Black folks (Egyptians) enslaved the Jews for some 430 years - incidentally, should our Jewish brothers and sisters be asking for reparations from Blacks in general?

Watch as the slippery slope of the Confederate Flag issue takes hold... because there are growing elements in this country who want to bring this country down. As most of the Blacks in this country are concentrating on the trivial, because of the undue influence of the racial pimps, the other ethnic groups are making rapid, progressive gains in our society. To that end, watch the alliances being forged between the majority and the other minorities, while we Blacks dither and cement our alliances to immorality like, as an ethnic group, having the most Abortions per capita. No matter though, when all of the Confederate flags are no longer flying, our 'salvation' will come: no more Black-on-Black killings; no drive-bys; no scathing academic report cards; and a weaning off government subsidies; no diseases borne out of chronic drug use; and no more unemployment - O Happy Day... sing with me!

You bring up the issue of reparations. In many court cases today , civil and criminal, reparations are levied by the court as well as other penalties. When we consider one of the most heinous acts in the history of the world, which is the institution of slavery that "legally" existed on this continent for nearly 400 years, it is unconscionable that the descendents of African, and Indigenous slaves would not receive reparations. It is exactly because of the institution of slavery that many white Euro-American families are prosperous and wealthy today. If the spawn of slave owners continue to prosper because of a past evil, then it is logical, and only fair that the descendents of those who suffered slavery, and in large part created the wealth of America, should also benefit.

But what is most telling is that you have adopted the racist rhetoric that the black man is responsible for his own misery, and all that he needs do is to stop being so damn lazy; to become resourceful like the white man, and all of his troubles will go away! But this argument doesn't hold water since the majority of poor people in this country are white; since the numbers prove that the majority of crimes committed in this country are by white people; since the numbers also prove that white on white violence far surpasses black on black violence. Where you have been deceived is with the word "disproportionate". Since many poor blacks have been purposely concentrated in the inner cities, you have also been deceived by the false notion that a majority, or all poor people live in the inner city. And let us not forget that one of the most heinous crimes ever committed in this country happened only a few days ago when nine innocent African people were murdered in cold-blood by a white, racist, terrorist in Charleston South Carolina.

Historically, there is no institutionalized racism in America that discriminates against any other race like the African. And it is a fact that the majority of people who are poor remain poor for their entire life, no matter what their race or nationality. Today in China, more than 82 million people live below the poverty line. How can this be if the Chinese are so superior to blacks? The fact is that every Chinese person living in the U.S. is not successful. And the ones who are successful are only a handful who didn't start from scratch with $0.00, but who had the resources to begin with. There are black communities around the U.S. that are affluent. In Uniondale ( a suburb of New York City) the average yearly income is $76,000.00. You can bet that the majority of children coming from such a community will also be successful; not because they are black, but because they grew up with the benefits of money. You can also bet that a majority of these kids won't be doing drugs, joining gangs, or rioting in the streets! Money makes a lot of that go away, and even disappear. The ones who do fall down and get hooked on drugs will be sent to expensive drug rehabs, like many of their white counterparts, and get a new lease on life. They will then return to their nice comfortable home in the suburbs, mom and dad will put money in their pocket, and they'll start to rebuild their life. This safety net doesn't exist in the ghetto. If we took all of the black children under the age of 6 years old, in every ghetto in America, and raised them in an environment like Uniondale, it is not unreasonable to project that well over 90% would become successful people. If we leave them in the ghetto, we can only expect the opposite.

Black on black violence , and all of the ills of the black man in America is a direct result of institutionalized racism. The African or the Indigenous will never be free from this yoke of oppression as long as they look to their oppressors for deliverance. The European Invader did not come to this continent and politely ask my people for all of their land and resources; they did not politely ask for the affections of the native women they encountered here. No, they stole, they raped, and they murdered my people, and then they took what they wanted by force! Anyone who thinks that we the Indigenous, or the African, will ever achieve true equality, or ever get back what has been stolen from us by peacefully protesting, or by being "polite", is at best a fool, and at the very worst, a traitor.

The removal of the confederate flag from government offices will not alone cure all of the black man's problems. But we can understand that many cures do not come in the form of a single magic pill. Many cancer treatments include both radiation and chemotherapy in order to produce a positive result. The removal of the confederate flag is a step in the right direction; it is part of the cure.

Thanks for your dissertation on race - but it is because I believe in solving our own problems than the bogus reasons why we are suffering from mostly self-inflicted wounds why I will never noise such nonsense. It is the same refrain, one must be a traitor if he or she does not walk in lock-step with those suffering with the chronic case of victim-hood.

I noticed that conveniently you neglected to mention that Native Americans used to own slaves too.

First of all , institutionalized racism is not a bogus reason, it is simply a fact. That fact can be ascertained by either reading a book or by observing the world around us. Your rhetoric about self inflicted wounds is a racist as any I've heard. Your statement also promotes the fiction that all black people who live in the ghetto are violent gang bangers, drug addicts, and directionless welfare recipients. This is a very popular racist myth that you have obviously embraced. It appears that you haven't figured out that poverty is the reason for all of these problems. If you go to any white ghetto, or Asian ghetto, or Muslim ghetto, in the world, you will find the same problems. Its about money! And in America, the system of white supremacy purposely has kept the black man at a disadvantage.

Concerning the owning of black slaves by Indigenous people: I did not neglect to mention anything. You will notice I didn't mention black men who have raped white women. I didn't mention Idi Amin, or Pol Pot either! Why? Because these are irrelevant to the topic. I have no love for anyone who would enslave another human being. Red, White, Black, Brown, or Yellow; it simply doesn't matter. Evil is evil. Period! But we are not living under a system of "Red Supremacy", or "Brown Supremacy". We are living under a system of "White Supremacy", and so that is the evil that we must confront. The First Nations do not have the power, the authority,or the numbers to negatively influence the forward motion of the black man in America, even if they wanted to. You have clearly sought to destroy my argument with pure nonsense, and white racist rhetoric.

Finally, you have fallen for the biggest white lie: that the black man is "not" a victim. I must admit that it is quite clever. The white racist has promoted the notion that the word "victim" is synonymous with weakness. Consequently, you refuse to see yourself as such. A man with one leg is not necessarily weak, but no matter what happy face we try to put on it, he is still disabled; he is still a cripple. Refusing to define him as such will not cause his leg to miraculously re-appear. as a black man you will "never" have equality; you will "never" be more than a second class citizen in a system of white supremacy. It's simply not possible. Your only options are to remain a slave, or to dismantle and destroy the system of white supremacy.

I am a man who was born in abject poverty, yet because of a little discipline I have thrived with the assistance of Christ Jesus... and I know that not facing our ills will not elevate us notwithstanding that there is indeed racism. I will not change my position nor will you... so leave it at that. The reason why I made the comment about Native Americans owning Black slaves is because you mentioned Native Americans in your initial response... I then mentioned Native Americans ownership of Black slaves to show that man's heart is desperately wicked - no matter race/ethnicity.

I am a Blackman who was born in abject poverty, yet with a little discipline through Christ Jesus, notwithstanding the fact that there is indeed racism, I thrived... and there are many examples of Black men where I reside who thrive too. Incidentally, I mentioned Native American ownership of Black slaves because your initial response you mentioned them. All human beings are hearts are desperately wicked and are capable of anything... it is why we have Black-on-Black slavery in certain areas of Africa and the typical attendant sonic boom silence from many. I am not going to change my position on this issue - but I will continue to post your responses.

Verily Prime, this is a tremendously good article, and on a topic that really needs some serious and open discussion.

I noted in particular your concern about watching Dukes of Hazard. One of the black Fox news commenters was talking about something similar the other day (Juan Williams). He was saying he had a difficult time handling the situation when his kids asked him to go out and get them a toy replica of the General Lee. He explained to the other news caster that he noted the emblem of the Confederate flag and then had explain to his children that this was regarded as a cultural symbol of oppression.

You are not alone.

I would offer this thought – the hatred that we associate with any symbol is something we have to teach our children. But while we choose to teach them of the hate, we can also choose to teach them that it is a thing of the past, best left to historians.

Why do we not do that? Why do we not approach this as an opportunity to teach our children to put aside the hatred of the past and teach our children to work towards a better future?
