Are You Just Too Liberal, Too Anti-Constitution, Too Anti-American To Be Saved? GOP Tea Party Says Yes!

GOP Tea Party, Putin Loves You! Putin Warns Of Liberalism!

GOP And Tea Party Advocate One-Opinion Government! Why Is Anyone Who Disagrees An Enemy Of The Country?

Recently, I had an encounter with a member of the GOP Tea Party and was told that countries that have allowed liberalism, multiculturalism and Sharia law to creep in are now having problems 'weeding' them out. Apparently, these are very evil influences and quite pervasive in our country, too. Sharia Law? Really? Where is Sharia the law in the U.S.? I was intrigued. I wanted to know which countries' leaders had made recent complaints about liberalism. So, I did some research. Other than a blogger saying it in the conservative blog, American Thinker, I found a news article stating that Vladmir Putin spoke aggressively of avoiding "unjustified liberalism" Wednesday, 04/20/2011. Link to: . I guess if Putin is against liberalism, then the U.S. should agree...

This member of the GOP Tea Party wrote about Attorney General Eric Holder, suggesting that he supports, not the rights of all Americans, but only his "own people". The writer suggested that Holder was protecting terrorist Muslim groups who are in the business of promoting Sharia law and Black Panthers. Further, many of President Obama's czars have socialist and communist leanings, and promote the destruction of our government.

After being told that "expressing your opinions is the American way and no one wants to curtail that right", it was suggested that I was "just too liberal, too anti-Constitution, too anti-American to be saved". Saved from what? Am I one of those that needs to be 'weeded' out? Apparently, the answer is yes.

After posting several political columns, I have come to the conclusion that the Tea Party and the current GOP, instead of relying on rational thought and mutual respect when disagreeing, often resort to name calling. Not just any name calling, but name calling that promotes the view that liberals in America are enemies of the state. Even though liberalism is defined by Merriam Webster as: a political philosophy based on belief in progress, the essential goodness of the human race, and the autonomy of the individual and standing for the protection of political and civil liberties; specifically : such a philosophy that considers government as a crucial instrument for amelioration of social inequities (as those involving race, gender, or class), a vast number of Tea Party members and GOP Party members believe that liberalism and liberals are so evil that they and their opinions must be purged from the political discourse and country. They seem to promote the view that more than just one political opinion is a detriment to the well-being of the country. If your opinion differs from theirs, you are anti-American.

Repeating Lies Does Not Make Them Truth!

Discourse in American politics has always been passionate. Opinions, historically, were never lauded as truth. They were instead, considered to be opinions. Somewhere along the way, opinion has been elevated to truth. In the conversations that take place daily throughout this country, opinion carries the conversation. Try to interject facts? Facts do not seem to matter. They do not carry the weight they once did. Statistics and numbers are too boring and take too long to research. In the world of expediency, fact fails. Fact is no longer important.

Even though opinion is now the rule, opinion is not truth. It is as if the mere telling of a lie and then repeating that lie, grants it truth status. Not so! No matter how often you say it, no matter how passionately you believe it, a lie is never the truth. A lie will never be the truth, no matter how much you want it to be!

How Audacious Are You?

Have you ever told someone who disagrees with you that they should move to Somalia? Cuba? Have you ever told someone who disagrees with you that they are evil? Have you ever told someone who has a different view that they must be purged from the country? That you may pay a visit to their home and teach them a thing or two? That you may provide them an armed escort to Cuba? If you have, then you probably meet the definition of audacious. If you lack respect for any other points of view but your own, then you probably even meet the definition of extremist.

When you tell people these things, do you expect their kindness in return? Do you wonder why they do not offer you respect? Wonder why they dismiss your thinking process as challenged? Then you probably meet the definition of stupid! I know---name calling, but a different kind...Not threatening you, not telling you that you want to destroy the country, not calling you a commie, socialist, welfare-loving parasite. A little bit different, in just my opinion.

I used to ignore these comments, even though I found them particularly troubling. I am done with that. From now on, I will treat people the way they treat me. It may be more effective than that age old rule: Treat others as you would like to be treated. This seems to be the only level that one can communicate effectively with extremists. Call them out, stop being nice, do it every single time! I don't think it will change minds, but it will begin to hold extremists accountable. Even though they seem to have no boundaries, let them know their thinking is nonsense and not held in high regards by many. Enough BS!

Threaten my home, my family, my existence in this country ( I am a citizen, too!) and it is on! Every single time!

Even Paul Krugman, noted economist, says "Let's Not Be Civil!". He has written an op-ed in the NY Times, that is worth reading :

Hallelujah!! I think we have reached some kind of watermark because I so completely agree. Enough already! I have ignored their insults and ignorance long enough.

I appreciate anyone's right to an opinion, afterall we all have one, but these people have absolutely no regard for facts. The ignorance is overwhelming.

I read a blog today in which the writer said she had made a huge mistake voting for Obama because he can't solve the nation's problems, then turned full circle and said, no president could solve the nation's problems. Another idiot blamed him for the oil spill and high gas prices. He is responsible for everything that is happening in the world.

The real problem is, they don't think Obama is a socialist or the anti-Christ, they clearly think he is God.

Dear Fay!

Every single time! It is going to be my new motto! Thank you so much for being the first to comment! I am going to start printing even the obscene comments, just to demonstrate the ignorance. Enough is enough! Our silence gives power to the extreme. Permission, if you will. We can write as many blogs as we want, but unless we call them out on their own, it will do no good! Want some fun? Make a liberal-sounding comment on Glenn Beck's website, The Blaze. Then just be artistic with it. Cut and paste the responses you get and create a collage for your fridge! It will remind you everyday of the reasons you are not a member of the GOP Tea Party!

But you know these Tea Party folks are just nice ordinary citizens with whom you would like to Brunch. That is, if you like Brunching with the KKK. Where is the Peace and Love? Sacky is searching for her beads!

HSchneider 5 years ago from Parsippany, New Jersey

I have never undertood why the Tea party and the Far Right think that they are the only Patriots and the only ones who believe in the Constitution. They constantly say they want to take their country back. Was their a coup or invasion I missed? I thought President Obama was fairly and easily elected. Oh, that's right he was born in Kenya, or Indonesia, or.... anywhere but here. It is all nonsense. Great Hub and I'm off to hear my local Kommissar's speech. Down with the Proletariat. You know they think that's what we do because they listen to Limbaugh and Beck...... and now Donald Bad Combover.

Dear Terry!

No peace and love here! The lack of peace and love was what prompted this! The ignorance, which I can excuse a little, is far outweighed by the audacity. That is what has me over the edge. No! I do not want to have brunch with this lovely group of people. I will not break bread with anyone who thinks that another American should be purged. More like KKK on steroids! Won't fly anymore!

Hi, HScneider,

I have no idea what is in the tea these people drink! The true Patriots? The 'real Americans'? There was that invasion in 2008, did you miss it? Oh, yes! It was called an election! But that one, you know, was illegitimate! There have been few days since his election that Obama has not been villified by the right. He is the cause of everything from tornadoes to oil spills to Donald Trump losing his hair. I am sure that even Newt will be blaming him for his next divorce!

Now go to your meeting! I am sure it is being held in some secret location... unless of course, you don't mind being targeted by the next McCarthy commission! Now that is the real America we want back, right?

Jillian, you go Girl!!! I am hoping that the Tea Party/GOP will continue to show their real colors so that the people who voted for them know once and for all that they represent only their OWN interests which is taking ALL of the power away from the people and giving it to the rich and mega corporations. It doesn't stop there, either. They are also trying to take all of our hard earned tax dollars and place those in the hands of the rich and mega corporations, even though those people pay almost no taxes, if they pay them at all.

You have done a very fine job here. Thanks, Jillian for being the voice of reason.

Up and Awesome,

Dear Chef Lee,

That is the problem with liberals. We never seem to fight back on their terms! We back down and compromise, they never do! I am going to try a different tactic! Can't work less than what we have been doing! I have also been telling my reps to do the same. I am tired of the weakness I see displayed by my fellow liberals.

I used to tell my kids- (this sounds bad, I know! Blame it on my Italian genes!)-- Do NOT EVER let me find out that you have started a fight and hit some one, but at the same time, if you ever get hit, you better beat the crap out of them, or I will smack you myself...

It worked for them---guess I forgot that loving, motherly advice!

Dear Lela,

Thank you! Thought hard about this, but after having someone comment on something you have written that was not inflammatory--and suggest that they would find you-- kind of gave me a new perspective, along with a chill up my spine. Cannot always try to be logical only--my best friend's mom always told her- Treat people the way they treat you! It is how they communicate and what they understand. While I would NEVER dream of threatening someone(I think that is horrible and less than human), I just can't back down anymore.

Thank you, Lela.

Dear Jillian, one of the reasons I stopped writing the political articles is because some of the comments from the supporters of the Tea/GOP were so hate filled, irrational and threatening. I have other challenges in my life, right now, as we all do, and I do not need to have this added stress.

It seems to me that the evils that live in the hearts of men cannot stand to have the light shown upon them. They cannot tell us their opposing points of view, they can only resort to hatefulness, name calling and threats. An idea which cannot stand on its own, such as the ideas of the Tea/GOP and must resort to threats and small mindedness as their defense should be defeated at all costs.

Thank you again, Jillian, for standing tall in the fight against insanity.

The sad behavior of the tea-bagging party is so over-the-top Fascism that it is difficult to believe, perhaps, this is why liberals have had such a difficult time in calling "a spade a spade." The Teabaggers are digging their own graves, for no one, no one, could live under their perceived ideas of American Libertarianism.

The name-calling, move out rhetoric and pure lies are so disturbing that is is astounding to comprehend--Donald Trump Up THe CHarges is simply getting publicity for a fact about Obama's birth that could be more disputed by McCain's birthplace. Funny eh? McCain wasn't born on American soil--but in some war zone...look it up.

As far as the hatred for socialism and working together? This one really freaks me out--the founding fathers gave the right to bear arms to citizens to work together in a war scenario to fight a common foe--not each other.

As long as foolish pundits, like Palin and Bachmann, quote fraudulent facts, stare into space and blow dry their words as much as they blow dry their hair--America will not have common sense results--only a common foe--the commoner fools who don't even carry degrees in history that allow them the possibility of learning from past mistakes.

Liberals must rise up and take to the air, and internet, waves refuting the lunacy that has become conservative Republican BS tea-bagging.

Ugh, I was so disgusted, I did move out of the country to a place that at least tries to be civil to its multi-cultural citizens, who are patriotic, it's a place called Canada.

Dear Randslam,

Thank you so much for commenting and bringing your opinion into play. It is appreciated and I hope others take your words to heart. We "must rise up and take to the air, and internet, waves refuting the lunacy that has become conservative Republican BS tea-bagging." So true!

And Trump? Used car salesman of the ages? He has no shame! Hope he does make a run for President. Talk about heat? He will run so fast when his all of his exploits come to light. In this case, it is Trump who is The Apprentice!

Dems have always tried to compromise, most times to their own detriment. Giving in when they shouldn't have. In this political climate, their compromise is seen as weakness. Maybe now is the time to stop. Stand up and draw a line in the mud!

Thank you-

Turning the other cheek doesn't work. And yes, I do agree--seeing Trump in the political arena would be an apprenticeship of hilarity.

Obama is revving up, and after Ryan's "Financial Flare-up," we're going to see a President rise up and call, "Foul!"

The birthers, tea-baggers and combover artists will be called out for the flim-flamming snake oil salesmen, and women, that they are.

It's gonna be fun to watch...hehehe.

Jillian, you mentioned in the article something about the rightwinger saying that you were beyond salvation.

As Bill Mahr once said it is not from both sides, but only one side engages in hate filled references and violence speech. An earlier poster should know that you cannot allow yourself to be intimidated by these people. Don't confuse the progressive's openminded and inclusive nature with cowardice or fear. Don't confuse kindness for weakness We are just as willing to go to the mat for our conviction against the rightwinger and do whatever is necessary to keep them from promoting their drivel.

With so many stupid people being led down the primrose path, I will have to have inscribed on my tombstone "People are Dumb"

Thanks again Jillian

Never intimidated, just always shocked by the lack of civility.Hope your tombstone is a long way away!

You'd think that all of those people being led down the primrose path would be tired of the thorns they are getting! It is a wake up call giving them a hint of the pain the GOP Tea Party is going to cause them in the end!

People are Dumb! It is the sad content of our planet's population.

We need more scientists and philosophers that will help unravel the thorny trail that theological amateurs are hiking.

Nietzche tried to discredit the "holier than thous" with 'Thus Spake Zarathustra' but his genius was very discredited by his own sister's betrayal of his work--she actually changed some of his conclusions to curry favor with Hitler.

I've written about the misunderstandings that still are shouted from television screens with the likes of Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck, Rush, and Michelle Bachmann.

Check it out at...

People are dumb, but we still need to educate them about the glories of our universe and the importance of cooperative efforts to create a better planet.

The tornados in Alabama are breeding a whole new kind of socialism--community working together--because everything else has been swallowed by the whirlwinds, Dorothy.

Great hub.

What genius decided these idiots could appropriately align themselves with what the original Tea Party planners stood for? Those folks were revolutionaries..not right wing conservative fascists.

Jillian Barclay profile image

Right wing conservative fascists believe they are the new Patriots; anyone who disagrees with them are 'suspect' and anti-American, who need to be weeded out and prosecuted. They are the enlightened among us! How can their views be considered extreme? After all, they are cloaked in the flag, with their bibles and their 'simpler' version of the Constitution in their back pockets.

Right on, JacksLens!

"Mad dog liberal" sounds good to me! So tired of liberals being afraid to speak up! If we don't, we may never get the chance. Rights are being eroded in every state in this country. I am tired of it! I love this country--it is mine, too! I am not unpatriotic, evil or godless because I have social justice and equity at the forefront of my hopes for our country. You, too, I am sure!

James 4 years ago

It's very ironic randslam that you complain about name calling while saying "teabaggers" over and over, hypocrite much? While I completely agree those on the far right can be obnoxious and at times very ignorant, those on the far left can be just as infuriating. The main disagreement in my experience between most republicans and liberals seems to be class warfare/progressive taxes, healthcare, social programs, and interpretation of parts of the constitution. Both sides feel intellectually superior, morally superior and refuse to debate or exchange ideas in a civilized manner. We're adults! Be open to new ideas, or at least consider a differing opinion.

randslam profile image

randslam 4 years ago from Kelowna, British Columbia

How is this hypocrisy? "Do unto others as they have done unto you."

It's simply following the opinion of this

As for being open to new ideas...I am very open to new ideas. It is the Right-wing leadership like Santorum that seem to want to bring back the old ideas from a time when America was "perfect." That ideal never happened and the fight against racism, sexism and old-timey religionists is a very real battle. Y'know, Hitler was a very austere conservative who didn't drink, gamble, swear, smoke or experience sex...he was a control freak...unlike Churchill who was a hard-drinking, smoking, cursing, easily-irritated old cuss that led the fight to victory--just an example of the dangers of being too much of a conservative.

Name-calling? I think not...simply labelling those who wish to take us back to a time when "people knew their place," which meant minorities rode in the back of the bus and didn't eat at the same table and they certainly didn't have the audacity to become president of the United States.

I have been appalled at the disrespect shown to President Obama by television evangelists, right-winged, narrow-minded and bigoted media pundits like Hannity on Fox or Jack van Impe on his weird version of some kind of christian cultic show.

The past decade has seen a huge return to sadder ideals being voiced and it sickens me to listen to these so called moral christian leaders who want to run the nation...I've seen this kind of judgemental buloney before...I found it in the pews and halls of today's cult called Christianity.

It's time to stop lying about, "God told me to run for president..." and attempting to return to some sort of moral value system that tells women what to do with their bodies--it's the 21st century and yet we continue to see medieval behaviors...that's sad.

Hypocrisy is not at issue here...defining the evil that is being witnessed in the right, and going righter, Republican realm is.

Dear Randslam,

I am sure it doesn't surprise you that I agree with everything you have said...
